Last point: Maybe I should have agitated for isolated soundtracks on the DVDs ... also would have been nice with all that capacity on HD/Blu-Ray. Maybe in time for implantable chip format 1.0.

Not to beat a dead horse, but as I noted in the thread on Leonard Rosenmann, how about getting all those complete and uncut original series soundtracks released? I've gotten every album that contained a cut from the original (even the rerecordings) and have felt cheated, especially after reading over the years stuff like Neil Norman/GNP has had them all and promised more releases, better quality tapes of the pilot themes surfaced (at the very least a remastering in today's technology would fix some of the shrillness of the album), and soundtrack tapes apparently circulate in some circles of fandom that I, as a rather isolated fan, am not a part of (nice to hear them being used in the good fan films.) I've used a music editor to isolate cuts from tracks (Space Radio from Fred Steiner's Mudd's Women for Varese Sarabande comes to mind) and I have done some other edits and remixes to simulate shows done with the cues as library music.

For me, the original series music is a crossing of two passions -- Trek and classic soundtracks, from David Raskin's Laura and Friedhoffer's Best Years of Our Lives to Franz Waxman's A Place in the Sun, (ST's) George Duning's Picnic, Bernard Hermann's Walking Distance for TZ, also mad for Elmer Bernstein, Mancini, Schifrin, Goldsmith ... to scratch the surface.

So, more than a gorgeous Master Replicas Enterprise or owning a single prop, a collection of the original soundtracks would be the ne plus ultra Trek item for me. My idea has been it would be something like the box set compilation of NFL Films music, Autumn Thunder. (review -- http://tinyurl.com/6n9ayj)

Courage scored Star Trek's two pilots, The Cage and Where No Man Has Gone Before, as well as the episodes Man Trap, The Naked Time, The Enterprise Incident and Plato's Stepchildren. Of course music from these scores was tracked into MANY additional episodes of the series so Courage's music wound up in a very high percentage of the show's episodes.

Very, very sad news.

I hope he's in THE better place.

His signature composition is one of the most fond musical moments in film history. He will not be forgotten.

Bye Sandy, thanks for the great music. And for giving Star Trek it's unique sound that ensures you'll never be forgotten.

Sad to hear of the loss of an integral element of what had made TOS so great in the first place.

It would be great if SOME of his evocative cues are referrenced somewhat throughout Michael Giacchino's upcoming soundtrack for the new Movie...
