- I don’t think the success (or failure, for that matter) of the film at the box office will change any significant number of opinions. -

Although I was referring to our “instinct” as to whether this is a deadpan game they are playing, or whether the Shat actually isn’t in, I agree to what you say. This discussion will probably go on and on and on and on and on, irrespective of the film’s box office takings… I hope we’re all as fit and enterprising as Sir Shat in order to endure this topic until hell freezes over. ;)

I would love to see and ending to the new film in this way, ……………………….
the film ends in the way that J.J.Abrams has filmed and the end credits roll, ………….all those who don’t want Shatner in the film along with those who simply don,t care can go home after hopefully watching a very entertaining film……….when the end credits finish a last scene comes on the screen, just like in the recent Iron Man and the first Pirates of the Carribean movies, and you have a Starfleet Graduation sceen set in the next generation era.A hand is placed on the back of a man sitting in the audience,he turns around and says “Spock,you made it, this will mean a lot to George.Spock says “retirement suits you Jim……..your son has performed admirably.For those who want Shatner back ….. to simply imply that Spocks trip back to the past may be enough to suggest that he has done a more comprehensive job at changing the events of the future.

I don’t think so.

If STXI is an immediate financial success, there is nothing to stop some fans from speculating that Shatner’s inclusion would have made the studio even more money. And if it is initially a financial disappointment, there still would be nothing to assure other fans that a Shatner appearance would have made any difference. It will be just as subjective as it is now. Marketing a Star Trek film to a more mainstream audience, and more importantly, betting a $150 million investment on its success, is a risky undertaking with or without Bill Shatner. I don’t think the success (or failure, for that matter) of the film at the box office will change any significant number of opinions.

Just to get it right, just a few days after Orci was cited saying “who knows”, big-ego-loudmouth Billy The Shat by sheer chance catches MI3 on TV, discovers in a wondrous way that he loves it, and accordingly can’t wait to tell the world that he’s disappointed not to be in XI because Abrams is such a wondaarful director and because XI will be greeaaat.

What a great show, indeed! Keeps me giggling for two days now. :)

Really no sour grapes just because Bill (apparently) has changed his heart. In May 09 we’ll learn beyond any doubt who had the better instinct. But until then, please allow me to enjoy this new cat-and-mouse game which appears to be a rather funny sequel to the bizarre scenario starting with “we’re desperately trying to figure out how to put him in”. Or, as Mr. Cryptic said “Who knows”…:D

No question. But he will always be associated with Star Trek and Captain Kirk, no matter how many Emmy Awards he earns for other things—so if there is a new Star Trek film coming out (in particular, one featuring the character he portrayed for so long), he’ll be asked about it.

But yes, I think his latest response to the repetitive questioning about Abrams and the new Star Trek movie show that he is moving on. He’s no longer talking about “bad business decisions”, the level of creativity on the part of the writers, or his willingness/unwillingness to appear in a cameo role.

This was the classy response he should have made in the first place, IMO. Nevertheless, I’m glad to see it now.

I’m pretty sure he’d rather talk about Boston Legal, charity work, his horses, his Dobermans, his friendship with Leonard, stage work, the new show he’s working on “Raw Nerve”…

There are lots of other things that are more important to him at this point in his life than being or not being in this new movie.

The people involved have moved on, maybe everyone else should too.
