Lets face it, we are all axious about the new movie, and can’t wait to see it. I really don’t want too much to come out too soon and ruin the hype. Its happened before, which has killed movies. I think the first trailer came out way too soon. next trailer shouldn’t come out until sometime after Thanksgiving.

Of course it is a lie. The Enterprise was built in dry dock above earth, not on the planet. And now that I’ve geeked myself, I could also point out that whoever he is he’s insane. First Contact was complete garbage. The fact that he was excited about it proves his madness. Sounds like Vegan Choriomeningitis to me.

#117: Absolutely. The thing about fan-service is that you can pack a trailer wall-to-wall with it and (A) the broader audience need never notice it, let alone be distracted by it or confused by it (B) the trailer gains not a second of running time and (C) the hardcores are pleased.

It’s one of those rare and wonderful instances where you can, 100%, have it both ways, since fan-service can be utterly unubtrosive and invisible.

#116—I understand what you’re saying, but I think they can have their tranya and drink it too.

There is no reason a trailer with an obvious objective of appealing to a broader audience could not also contain a nugget or two that acts as the “fanboy reach-around” we’re all sitting on edge for. It certainly shouldn’t be the focus of the trailer, but a little something that only the old-school fans would pick up on wouldn’t hurt Abrams’ two-front PR campaign on bit, IMO.

In fact, I would say that Nimoy’s voiceover in the first teaser was, in principle at least, in the same ballpark.

This “fanboy wetdream” fake trailer is exactly what JJ and team, I would think, would *not* do. This type of trailer would appeal only to the diehard fans who would ‘get’ all the references. Too elitist, not broad-reaching. My guess is the actual trailers will be unlike those of any Trek trailers we’ve seen before. No repeated dialogue from other films, no predictable musical cues — and especially no cornball 70’s-esque narration.
