“Some of my favorite writers of the early Pocket Books are no longer permitted to write pro-novel Trek (I have that directly from two of the authors) bc they don’t fit the formula of “Crisis–Kirk saves the day–no character development (unless it’s Kirk).””

While this may have been true years ago, it hasn’t been true for a very very long time, and those writers are working on out-dated information, as is blindingly obvious to anyone who’s actually read the fiction over the past ten years or so, precisely none of which follows anything resembling that formula.

As for the SLINGS AND ARROWS collection, it hasn’t been scheduled yet. The plan is to do two trade paperbacks collecting eBooks per year going forward. For 2009, it’ll be MERE ANARCHY and the next CORPS OF ENGINEERS omnibus OUT OF THE COCOON. S&A will come down the line. (We scheduled MERE ANARCHY for spring 2009 to tie into the movie.)
