Family Guy: Wrath of Khan? – TrekMovie Helps Cast It July 15, 2008

by TrekMovie.com Staff , Filed under: Feature Films (TMP-NEM),Humor,List,Sci-Fi , trackback

Yesterday at the Fox’s animation panel during the 2008 Television Critics Association confab, Family Guy creator (and well known Star Trek fan) Seth MacFarlane told reporters he would like to create a Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan parody similar to the Family Guy parody of  Star Wars from 2007. TrekMovie thinks this is a great idea and thought we would lend a hand.

In 2007 the popular Fox animated comedy Family Guy kicked off their sixth season with a one hour episode titled "Blue Harvest" which retold the story of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, through the characters of Family Guy. It was wildly popular and was released on its own DVD and is even getting a sequel that will be the finale for the upcoming seventh season. The episode "Something, Something, Something Dark Side" will parody The Empire Strikes Back.

Is Trek next?
MacFarlane is no stranger to Star Trek. He starred as Ensign Rivers in two episodes of Enterprise and there have been numerous references to Star Trek in both the regular Family Guy television show and the DVD feature film "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story." There is even an episode in the upcoming season ("All Dogs Don’t Go To Heaven") which features a B-Story of Stewie kidnapping the entire cast of Star Trek The Next Generation. MacFarlane got the entire TNG cast to do voices (Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Wil Wheaton and even Denise Crosby). And now it appears he wants to give Trek the full treatment. The following is from TVWeek’s live blog from the TCA:

6:21 p.m.: "Star Wars" is a huge franchise to parody, but is there anything else "Family Guy" could devote a full double episode to? Mr. MacFarlane says, "If Paramount would let us do ["Star Trek II:] ‘Wrath of Khan,’ that would be the coolest thing." He adds that "Star Wars" works because a majority of the show’s fans know the movie line for line, but Lucasfilm is pretty generous with the license, too.

Of course this wouldn’t be the first time Family Guy took a look at Wrath of Khan. There was a brief TWOK joke in the episode "Road to Rupert." And TrekMovie thinks the idea of dedicating an hour long show to Khan is a great idea and if you are listing Paramount: do it!

TrekMovie.com casts Family Guy Wrath of Stewie
We like the idea so much we even want to help out by making our suggestions as to what FG characters should play what roles from TWOK, with the most obvious being Stewie taking on the role of Khan!

  FG character TWOK character
Peter Griffin Kirk
Brian Griffin Spock
Glenn Quagmire Dr. McCoy
Tricia Takanawa Sulu
Loretta Brown Uhura
Mayor Adam West Scotty
Joe Swanson Chekov
Stewie Griffin Khan
Evil Monkey Joachim
Meg Griffin Ceti Alpha Eels
Lois Griffin Carol Marcus
Chris Griffin David Marcus
Connie DiMico Saavik
Cleveland Brown Capt. Terrell
Neil Goldman Peter Preston

STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE

2. BrandonR - July 15, 2008

That casting list is brilliant, lol.

3. Reptileboy - July 15, 2008

Spot on! Especially the Meg casting. Even better than Blue Harvest.

4. Jim - July 15, 2008

Yup…I can’t disagree with the casting suggestions…

5. Bob, the Evil Klingon Frontline Leader - July 15, 2008

Oh, make it so!

6. Sean4000 - July 15, 2008

They had better do this!

“Rupert??? What is he’s dead, I don’t think I can handle a funeral.”

“Of all the souls I’ve encountered in my travels”

We need to find that clip.

7. Sean4000 - July 15, 2008

Nevermind I saw the link too late.

Even though it was juxtaposed with the FG clip, the TWOK funeral is one of the most powerful scenes ever made.

8. Sir Martman - July 15, 2008

I would love to see the “Family Guy” cast take on other classic movies Too..

THX1138

Jaws

King Kong

Psycho

Dawn of the Dead

:o )

9. Beam Me Up - July 15, 2008

That would be great. The SW parody is one of the best parodies ever done. I think they should do Raiders of the Lost Ark, too.

10. Brian - July 15, 2008

Sounds interested. Hopefully Paramount will let them!!!

11. john doe - July 15, 2008

that is pure brilliance

12. Hallbjorn - July 15, 2008

Hope it will get made ¨!!

13. Terpor - July 15, 2008

Mayor Adam West as Captain James T.Kirk

14. Ensign Ro- (short for Roland) - July 15, 2008

I truly hope Paramount allows this to become a reality. ‘The Wrath of Stewie” would rock! I also loved the Star WArs Paraody and all the Trek references smattered throughout the series. I would but a Trek paraody DVD in a heartbeat!

#9 – That is also an awsome idea…would love to see it.

15. Captain Dunzel - July 15, 2008

He’s diggity, diggity dead, Jim.

16. That One Guy - July 15, 2008

I am all for this! This needs to happen. It would definitely be a great thing to do just before the new movie, to help as a form of promotion.

17. Spockanella - July 15, 2008

What an excellent idea. I would love to see something like this.

18. KJTrek - July 15, 2008

I hope Paramount doesn’t screw something like this up. They have been stuffy about Star Trek licensing in the past, and this could be a great way to start re-introducing ST to the mainstream. Plus, I would love to see a well made ST parody.

Also, how come the clip changed from just the Family Guy clip to a comparison?

19. KJTrek - July 15, 2008

When I say a well made ST parody – I mean a Family Guy one!

20. capttravis - July 15, 2008

Neil Goldman as Peter Preston. I can just see Joe (as Scotty) rolling off the turbolift with his nearly-lifeless body, Goldman wheezing and complaining his way to death…

21. SNAKE - July 15, 2008

what an excellent idea…Khan is by far the most mainstream Trek movie now…

it might even be a help to the new film ….raising ‘cool’ trek awareness

Itd be such a cool thing..i can picture Stewie reeling off those Khan lines in that stewie voice right now

22. Garovorkin - July 15, 2008

Oh I so want see that !

23. captain_neill - July 15, 2008

This would be freakin’ sweet

24. Irishtrekkie - July 15, 2008

do it paramount !!!! do it !!!, and the one part i would change is make Meg Griffin Saavik . so where was i , oh ye do it paramount !!!

25. Dennis Bailey - July 15, 2008

Saavik’s too important a character to give to Connie DeMarco. But the casting of Stewie is Excellent!

26. Irishtrekkie - July 15, 2008

and since i think meg should be saavik , i would say make Bruce the Performance Artist ( the guy with the clam voice) into Ceti Alpha Eels , i think it would be funny his heads on the worms as they go into your ears lol

27. Son - July 15, 2008

They should have William Shatner be Captain Kirk. After all, they killed the Shat on the series. And then saw him later in a performance of Fiddler on the Roof where for no reason he yells, “KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111!!!”

28. CmdrR - July 15, 2008

Trying to think of a “Brian is a dog” gag that will translate for Spock. Possibly, when Spock rushes down to engineering to ‘cool off’ the overheating nuclear reactor, he does in it the most obvious canine way.

29. Anthony Pascale - July 15, 2008

RE: meg as Saavik
well a running gag is that Meg gets the short end of the stick, they made her into the garbage monster in “Blue Harvest”

30. CmdrR - July 15, 2008

Oooo. Oooo.
In the Kobayashi Maru simulator at the beginning, when Spock ‘dies,’ he just rolls over and plays dead.

Or maybe Spock just hunches Carol Marcus’ leg.

31. CmdrR - July 15, 2008

Anthony, I like Meg as the ear wigs, but I think we need a stronger Saavik. Who’s left? Fighting Chicken? James Woods? Peter’s Mom/Phyllis Diller?

32. Dennis Bailey - July 15, 2008

Yeah, I thought of that.

The Saavik character can be made to be the butt end of a lot of Kirk/Peter’s jokes, though. The original spent a good deal of the time trying to get Kirk’s attention and/or “correct” his behavior, to limited effect.

33. capt mike - July 15, 2008

Now that would be so kool to have stewie as Khan. What an episode that would be. No wonder this show is a hit. They take on everything. I love it.

34. Jovan Gauthier - July 15, 2008

I thought Blue Harvest was merely okay, but I’d sooo watch this. Please work it out, Fox.

35. Dennis Bailey - July 15, 2008

Damn, the site is overrun with “Family Guy” ringtone ads!

36. SNAKE - July 15, 2008

Maybe Richardo Montoban could cameo..after all hes been in FG before as a Bull…even had a WOK reference with the ‘Including my beloved wife’ line

37. Norm! - July 15, 2008

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!

38. Dr. Spaceman - July 15, 2008

awesome

39. Justin11 - July 15, 2008

Diane simmons as saavik? Tom tucker would need a good role too then… Commander kyle maybe? And opie would need a minor role!

40. Norm! - July 15, 2008

I love the casting ideas. My only suggestions:

Dr. Heathman = Scotty (for similar appearances)

Bruce = Joachim (for potential hilarious one-liners)

However, I’m sure the Family Guy folks will come-up with terrific ideas either way.

41. boJac - July 15, 2008

Brian’s former girlfriend Jillian should be Saavik.

“Uh, Spock, how do I know if I’m a Vulcan?”
“Are you a Vulcan?”
“Yeah.”
“There you go.”

42. boJac - July 15, 2008

Also, they should asianize Bruce and make him Sulu, to consolidate the gay jokes.

43. Andy Patterson - July 15, 2008

I’d like to see Adam West in the Khan role. I thought he was misused in the Star Wars parody.

44. Ryan - July 15, 2008

i’d rather see Ali Williams as Capt. Terrell… maybe have Cleveland be Sulu or Scotty… Cleveland needs a bigger roll.

and i agree… we need a bigger role for Savik.

45. Justin11 - July 15, 2008

I also think that rupert should be joachim. That way stewie-khan would actually care when he dies on the bridge.

46. Newman - July 15, 2008

Please Paramount, us Trek fans need this!

47. Willardcanada - July 15, 2008

I can imagine when Peter shows Brian and Quagmire the Genesis device video. Quagmire would get very giddy. After the video is complete, Quagmire asks if he can see it again.

48. Magic_Al - July 15, 2008

Don’t forget the Family Guy-Trek connection that is composer Ron Jones, who parodied his “Best of Both Worlds” cliffhanger music in “Stewie Kills Lois”. Firing Ron Jones was Rick Berman’s worst decision ever.

49. Charles Trotter - July 15, 2008

“Beware Romulans bearing gifts! Giggity, giggity!”

HA! Evil Monkey as Joachim! That would be hilarious. It would most likely be Rupert, though (Stewie’s teddy bear and make-believe muscular pal, for those who don’t watch the show) :)

Oh and Meg as the Ceti Alpha eels = perfect! Probably exactly what Seth was thinking!

Tom Tucker and Diane Simmons should probably “report” on the Genesis Project in place of the Pixar animation. I think Bonnie (Joe’s wife) should play Saavik. Greased Up Deaf Guy and Herbert should be some of Khan’s minions! Or maybe make Herbert as Scotty and Mayor West as an Augment. Aye-yi-yi, the possibilities are endless! I hope Paramount goes for this!

50. DEMODE - July 15, 2008

No. No. No….

Clearly, Adam West should be McCoy! He even kind of looks like him. He also has the temper that McCoy needs. West would be perfect as McCoy.

Quagmire should be Sulu (since he is a pilot in the show).

Joe should be Scotty.

51. spock34 - July 15, 2008

omg, 1 word, great.

52. Charles Trotter - July 15, 2008

Ok, so Adam West as McCoy, Joe as Scotty, and Quagmire as Sulu…

Who would play Chekov? Cleveland’s son, maybe? :-P

53. Tango - July 15, 2008

Perhaps reversing the roles of Peter and Chris could have a better commedic effect. Chris would make a better Kirk, and Peter could be the bumbling scientest/son of Kirk.

54. MORN SPEAKS - July 15, 2008

Hahaha….those are some great casting ideas! Hope we get to see it.

55. Dennis Bailey - July 15, 2008

Lois’ father should be Scotty.

56. Denise de Arman - July 15, 2008

CmdrR#28 & #30- LMAO! I want to buy the DVD NOW!!

57. NoRez - July 15, 2008

Quagmire would be a very funny Spock – imagine the emotionless ‘giggidy-giggidy’s, etc. Brian’s too close a match somehow.

Mayor West would be a fun Spock as well.

I’m with Sir Martman – if only this opened a new facet of Family Guy (a whole season of movie parodies… ahhhh….)

I hope the chicken’s alive and well in the Genesis cave…

58. Lousy_Canadian - July 15, 2008

SWEET! That would be so awesome!

59. Sxottlan - July 16, 2008

This is the first I’ve heard they’re doing another installment of a Star Wars parody.

That is exactly what I was hoping for!

60. Simon Belfast - July 16, 2008

Casting is spot on!! Excellent!!

61. Ladon - July 16, 2008

I would have put Quagmire as Kirk, but that’s just me.

62. awesome-o - July 16, 2008

Call me cynical, but only Paramount would be so dumb as to say no to this…

63. shat hands - July 16, 2008

Ha ha that is classic.

I would love to see it happen

64. AJ - July 16, 2008

Seth McFarlane:

Make this now.

Giggity.

65. AJ - July 16, 2008

I love the FG clip where JL Picard says to Riker something like “Number One, would you join me in a laugh if I told you that Commander Worf’s head looks like a fanny?”

66. PromoBoy - July 16, 2008

Seth– just go ahead and do it! Worry about Paramount’s permission later.
Tell them I said it’s ok.

67. Lousy_Canadian - July 16, 2008

Bruce should be the Ceti Alpha Eels, and he’ll talk for a long hillarious period of time without being interupted and then go into their ear. lol

68. Doug - July 16, 2008

Oh my god, if they dont do this, they’re nuts.

69. toddk - July 17, 2008

its easy for a network to do crossovers…as long as one company owns them. Like family guy and star wars. but to get fox and paramount to do it may be more difficult..they are competitors after all.

70. EdDR - July 17, 2008

Maybe three Spocks might show up on this, Adam West shows up in his “Outer Limits” spacesuit with the sand creature, Meg as the eel saying to Chekov, inside his head, how she never gets enough to say or do in these films, driving Chekov nuts. FAMILY GUY STAR TREK: KHAN IS PERTURBED IN RICH CORINTHIAN LEATHER

71. EdDR - July 17, 2008

Brian with pointy ears with just a little dog droop at the tips. Is it logical to play “Fetch The Stick”? Peter as Kirk–‘Yeah, I get him all the time with that gag.”

72. Crusade2267 - July 17, 2008

Oh I can just hear the jokes realing now…

“Wait… how can you be from the future 1996 if this show is being made in 2008?”

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (grabs knee and makes painful sucking sound over and over…)

73. Andy S - July 17, 2008

Agreed! I wouldn’t make any changes! I hope this really happens.

74. Scott Taylor - July 18, 2008

OMG … I so hope they do this.

75. Lieutenant Commander Kristophe - July 22, 2008

gotta admit, love this idea, but paramount won’t let it happen.

cast is brilliant though. the only changes i’d make have been suggested already: bruce should be sulu, and bonnie should be saavik. otherwise, it’s perfect.

I can already see tom tucker and diane simmons doing the genesis film:
“And now to summarise, here’s Ollie Williams. Ollie?”
“IT’S A BOMB THAT MAKES STUFF LIVE!”
“Thanks Ollie.”

76. Skippy Bob - August 14, 2008

Either Gloria Ironbachs or Angela (Peter’s boss in “Whistle While Your Wife Works”) as Saavik? Either one could implement Dennis Baily’s excellent suggestion about constantly correcting Kirk/Peter.

77. OR Coast Trekkie - August 16, 2008

Best idea ever!!!

78. josh - September 18, 2008

a few i disagree with: Uhura should be Cleveland in a wig cuz Loretta was written off the show.

Quagmire should be Sulu. Duh! Especially since Sulu in real life is so hilariously creepy.

Joe should be McCoy because Joe is easily the smartest character in Family Guy

Chris should be Scotty.

And thats about it. Fun to think about but i don’t think it will happen. And if it does it wont be as big as blue harvest.

79. Polstar - November 29, 2008

How about Bonnie Swanson as Saavik?

80. Eric Bryce - January 28, 2009

I would love to see this come to pass. I figured that they would automatically want to cast Stewie as Khan but I think it would be funnier if he were a fruity sarcastic Spock. I suppose they’ve already decides how they will go with it though. I can imagine when the genesis planet is created you’ll see a Denny’s or a Payless sprout out of the ground or something completely out of left field. Those guys that write Family Guy are creative maniacs. I don’t know about you guys but I can’t watch the real Star Wars anymore without saying that line at the appropriate time “Don’t get penisie”
.

81. Pat Payne - February 25, 2009

@36:

I’d love to have seen a Montalban cameo, but sadly, he’s no longer available :(

82. Pat Payne - February 25, 2009

Dammit, I just checked the dats on this thread. Forget I said anything.

83. Lore - February 25, 2009

#36 Mr. Montobon passed away.

84. Jon B - February 27, 2009

Excellent casting! Would love to see a Family Guy Wrath of Khan

85. Christopher Seeley - February 27, 2009

I love Family Guy! I hope that they can do this parody! It would be so freakin’ SWEET!

86. Sopek - October 1, 2009

I think Meg should have a better part because I know they are always shitting on her and she deserves to get a decent part in a star trek spoof. Maybe she could be Janice Rand in Star trek the motion picture if they spoof it. Or she could be Valeris in the Undiscovered country spoof if they veer get to it.

87. John - October 4, 2009
