Family Guy: Wrath of Khan? – TrekMovie Helps Cast It

Yesterday at the Fox’s animation panel during the 2008 Television Critics Association confab, Family Guy creator (and well known Star Trek fan) Seth MacFarlane told reporters he would like to create a Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan parody similar to the Family Guy parody of  Star Wars from 2007. TrekMovie thinks this is a great idea and thought we would lend a hand.

In 2007 the popular Fox animated comedy Family Guy kicked off their sixth season with a one hour episode titled "Blue Harvest" which retold the story of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, through the characters of Family Guy. It was wildly popular and was released on its own DVD and is even getting a sequel that will be the finale for the upcoming seventh season. The episode "Something, Something, Something Dark Side" will parody The Empire Strikes Back.

Is Trek next?
MacFarlane is no stranger to Star Trek. He starred as Ensign Rivers in two episodes of Enterprise and there have been numerous references to Star Trek in both the regular Family Guy television show and the DVD feature film "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story." There is even an episode in the upcoming season ("All Dogs Don’t Go To Heaven") which features a B-Story of Stewie kidnapping the entire cast of Star Trek The Next Generation. MacFarlane got the entire TNG cast to do voices (Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Marina Sirtis, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Wil Wheaton and even Denise Crosby). And now it appears he wants to give Trek the full treatment. The following is from TVWeek’s live blog from the TCA:

6:21 p.m.: "Star Wars" is a huge franchise to parody, but is there anything else "Family Guy" could devote a full double episode to? Mr. MacFarlane says, "If Paramount would let us do ["Star Trek II:] ‘Wrath of Khan,’ that would be the coolest thing." He adds that "Star Wars" works because a majority of the show’s fans know the movie line for line, but Lucasfilm is pretty generous with the license, too.

Of course this wouldn’t be the first time Family Guy took a look at Wrath of Khan. There was a brief TWOK joke in the episode "Road to Rupert." And TrekMovie thinks the idea of dedicating an hour long show to Khan is a great idea and if you are listing Paramount: do it!

TrekMovie.com casts Family Guy Wrath of Stewie
We like the idea so much we even want to help out by making our suggestions as to what FG characters should play what roles from TWOK, with the most obvious being Stewie taking on the role of Khan!

STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE

That casting list is brilliant, lol.

Spot on! Especially the Meg casting. Even better than Blue Harvest.

Yup…I can’t disagree with the casting suggestions…

Oh, make it so!

They had better do this!

“Rupert??? What is he’s dead, I don’t think I can handle a funeral.”

“Of all the souls I’ve encountered in my travels”

We need to find that clip.

Nevermind I saw the link too late.

Even though it was juxtaposed with the FG clip, the TWOK funeral is one of the most powerful scenes ever made.

I would love to see the “Family Guy” cast take on other classic movies Too..

THX1138

Jaws

King Kong

Psycho

Dawn of the Dead

:o )

That would be great. The SW parody is one of the best parodies ever done. I think they should do Raiders of the Lost Ark, too.

Sounds interested. Hopefully Paramount will let them!!!

that is pure brilliance

Hope it will get made ¨!!

Mayor Adam West as Captain James T.Kirk

I truly hope Paramount allows this to become a reality. ‘The Wrath of Stewie” would rock! I also loved the Star WArs Paraody and all the Trek references smattered throughout the series. I would but a Trek paraody DVD in a heartbeat!

#9 – That is also an awsome idea…would love to see it.

He’s diggity, diggity dead, Jim.

I am all for this! This needs to happen. It would definitely be a great thing to do just before the new movie, to help as a form of promotion.

What an excellent idea. I would love to see something like this.

I hope Paramount doesn’t screw something like this up. They have been stuffy about Star Trek licensing in the past, and this could be a great way to start re-introducing ST to the mainstream. Plus, I would love to see a well made ST parody.

Also, how come the clip changed from just the Family Guy clip to a comparison?

When I say a well made ST parody – I mean a Family Guy one!

Neil Goldman as Peter Preston. I can just see Joe (as Scotty) rolling off the turbolift with his nearly-lifeless body, Goldman wheezing and complaining his way to death…

what an excellent idea…Khan is by far the most mainstream Trek movie now…

it might even be a help to the new film ….raising ‘cool’ trek awareness

Itd be such a cool thing..i can picture Stewie reeling off those Khan lines in that stewie voice right now

Oh I so want see that !

This would be freakin’ sweet

do it paramount !!!! do it !!!, and the one part i would change is make Meg Griffin Saavik . so where was i , oh ye do it paramount !!!

Saavik’s too important a character to give to Connie DeMarco. But the casting of Stewie is Excellent!

and since i think meg should be saavik , i would say make Bruce the Performance Artist ( the guy with the clam voice) into Ceti Alpha Eels , i think it would be funny his heads on the worms as they go into your ears lol

They should have William Shatner be Captain Kirk. After all, they killed the Shat on the series. And then saw him later in a performance of Fiddler on the Roof where for no reason he yells, “KHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111!!!”

Trying to think of a “Brian is a dog” gag that will translate for Spock. Possibly, when Spock rushes down to engineering to ‘cool off’ the overheating nuclear reactor, he does in it the most obvious canine way.

RE: meg as Saavik
well a running gag is that Meg gets the short end of the stick, they made her into the garbage monster in “Blue Harvest”

Oooo. Oooo.
In the Kobayashi Maru simulator at the beginning, when Spock ‘dies,’ he just rolls over and plays dead.

Or maybe Spock just hunches Carol Marcus’ leg.

Anthony, I like Meg as the ear wigs, but I think we need a stronger Saavik. Who’s left? Fighting Chicken? James Woods? Peter’s Mom/Phyllis Diller?

Yeah, I thought of that.

The Saavik character can be made to be the butt end of a lot of Kirk/Peter’s jokes, though. The original spent a good deal of the time trying to get Kirk’s attention and/or “correct” his behavior, to limited effect.

Now that would be so kool to have stewie as Khan. What an episode that would be. No wonder this show is a hit. They take on everything. I love it.

I thought Blue Harvest was merely okay, but I’d sooo watch this. Please work it out, Fox.

Damn, the site is overrun with “Family Guy” ringtone ads!

Maybe Richardo Montoban could cameo..after all hes been in FG before as a Bull…even had a WOK reference with the ‘Including my beloved wife’ line

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!

awesome

Diane simmons as saavik? Tom tucker would need a good role too then… Commander kyle maybe? And opie would need a minor role!

I love the casting ideas. My only suggestions:

Dr. Heathman = Scotty (for similar appearances)

Bruce = Joachim (for potential hilarious one-liners)

However, I’m sure the Family Guy folks will come-up with terrific ideas either way.

Brian’s former girlfriend Jillian should be Saavik.

“Uh, Spock, how do I know if I’m a Vulcan?”
“Are you a Vulcan?”
“Yeah.”
“There you go.”

Also, they should asianize Bruce and make him Sulu, to consolidate the gay jokes.

I’d like to see Adam West in the Khan role. I thought he was misused in the Star Wars parody.

i’d rather see Ali Williams as Capt. Terrell… maybe have Cleveland be Sulu or Scotty… Cleveland needs a bigger roll.

and i agree… we need a bigger role for Savik.

I also think that rupert should be joachim. That way stewie-khan would actually care when he dies on the bridge.

Please Paramount, us Trek fans need this!

I can imagine when Peter shows Brian and Quagmire the Genesis device video. Quagmire would get very giddy. After the video is complete, Quagmire asks if he can see it again.

Don’t forget the Family Guy-Trek connection that is composer Ron Jones, who parodied his “Best of Both Worlds” cliffhanger music in “Stewie Kills Lois”. Firing Ron Jones was Rick Berman’s worst decision ever.

“Beware Romulans bearing gifts! Giggity, giggity!”

HA! Evil Monkey as Joachim! That would be hilarious. It would most likely be Rupert, though (Stewie’s teddy bear and make-believe muscular pal, for those who don’t watch the show) :)

Oh and Meg as the Ceti Alpha eels = perfect! Probably exactly what Seth was thinking!

Tom Tucker and Diane Simmons should probably “report” on the Genesis Project in place of the Pixar animation. I think Bonnie (Joe’s wife) should play Saavik. Greased Up Deaf Guy and Herbert should be some of Khan’s minions! Or maybe make Herbert as Scotty and Mayor West as an Augment. Aye-yi-yi, the possibilities are endless! I hope Paramount goes for this!

No. No. No….

Clearly, Adam West should be McCoy! He even kind of looks like him. He also has the temper that McCoy needs. West would be perfect as McCoy.

Quagmire should be Sulu (since he is a pilot in the show).

Joe should be Scotty.
