Good News, a friend of mine works for ModernVideo in Burbank. They had the TOS-R account and he confirmed there is a TNG-R account and he is negotiating currently to get it. So no worries.

I sent CBS an email in regards to what I was saying above. It read as this:

"You have done a wonderful job remastering the original Star Trek series from the 60s. I heard some rumours that the Next Generation show has been tested to remaster in HD video. I have a request. I'm aware of the cost to do such projects and I seriously doubt that Paramount would do this all over again come 2015. Would CBS consider remastering the following series' (Next Generation, DS9, Voyager) in 4K Ultra High Definition instead of 1080P High Def? Im talking about the 7,680 × 4,320P pixels video that is the next coming standard expected to be out in 2015. That is less then 7 years away. If they remastered in 4K, it would seem to be an easy task to down rez it to 1080P for Blu Ray releases, and when 4K Super Hi Vision is released, CBS and Paramount will be ready to put those remastered shows on the next format and for broadcast. I just feel if CBS is going to go through all the trouble of redoing and rescanning all the film, fixing the FX shots, etc for 7 years of Next Gen shows, might as well do it in 4K now."

I just hope CBS considers this thought and saves time to do it now in 4K.

Oh yes- 7 of 9 in HD! I forgot about that. Ummmmmm. :P

I'd say if they are going to bother to remaster these shows in the future, then do it properly in 4K UHD to begin with. I seriously doubt we'd ever see a remaster of the remaster in the next decade when Ultra High Def comes out showing 4K video, so might as well do it now. Its easy enough to down rez to 1080P after that, but going up to 4K from 1080P isn't ideal. Again if anyone wonders what 4K is, it is Ultra High Definition video at 7,680 × 4,320P pixels which is 16 times 1080P video.

Guys, you all underestimate the amount of money TNG brings CBS. Those negatives are 20+ years old now and must be restored at some point anyway. I'd say if anything TOS-R was a trial run for CBS-D in prep to restore TNG, DS-9 & VOY. Further, they can't continue to sell these highly lucrative franchises much past 2009 in competition with new digital & HD media which is going to take off after the conversion, leaving standard RES, or up-res product in the dust. It will happen with in the next 5 years.

Also, I read this article with an eye towards the re-release of Season 1 on Blu-Ray, is it possible CBS has not announced it? I would think if they were smart all three would be available on Blu-ray come December and in box-set packaging. If so, Season 1 on Blu-ray will be released with Season 3 or shortly thereafter.

Regardless of where the Cage has traditionally shown up, I hope they use the Re-mastered edition as a way to correct that past mistake. While The Cage is technically the last TOS episode broadcast, I cannot stand the fact it is included on the DVD with what I consider the worst and most ignominious of all of TOS series: "Turnabout Intruder". Since even that DVD set admits The Cage is Ep. 1, with any luck they will place it where it belongs: at the beginning of Season 1.

I read The Cage is scheduled to be the first episode broadcast when TOS-R starts its new season, presumably as a launch vehicle for the complete series roll-out with Season 3 DVD in November. I would think the new season would then air the entire series either by original airdate order or production order now that the entire series has been re-mastered.

"Upres" was the buzzword they used. Maybe they were referring to upscaling the video to a 1080 signal. I never got the impression that they had (or didn't have) the elements.

Either way I'm with you. Improbable. :(

80:

I'm not sure how it was they could do a test (I think it was last year IIRC) if the elements were gone. So I'd say it's "improbable". :-/
