If you're into ST fan films, there's a few sites you might want to check out, like the Star Trek Fan Film News Blog (http://www.startrekfanfilmnews.blogspot.com/) and Acrux (http://acruxfanzine.blogspot.com/). If you're into fan films in general, I might humbly suggest my own fan film blog, http://www.fancinematoday.com. Also, for what it's worth, I wrote the first book about the history and future of fan films, Homemade Hollywood: Fans Behind The Camera, which is coming out in September to a bookstore near you.

#25: Fan films exist in a legal vacuum. Once upon a time, Paramount would actively go around shutting them down with cease-and-desist orders, but New Voyages/Phase II was a game-changer. They, too, received a C&D, but had already produced some incredibly high-quality work and was able to negotiate with Paramount reps. The understanding that came out of that--the understanding most fan producers are working under today, my ST:Excelsior included--consists of four points:

1. No profit.
2. No showings at film festivals, conventions, or any other venue where admission is charged.
3. No donations.
4. No official sanction - Paramount agreed to turn a blind eye to the productions, but they reserve the power to smack down any or all of us in one fell swoop if they so desire.

Hope that answers your question.

22: Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, but Uhura on New Voyages/Phase II looks quite attractive to me, as do the science officer and the Captain's yeoman on Exeter.

#54.

"Just saw the interpid “where there’s a sea” piece. Acting is very good, but directing, edtiting and audio needs some work. In my humble opinion–that is."

Not an unfair comment. These are all things we're conscious of and are working on. I think we've improved noticeably since our first effort, and I hope we'll continue to show improvement in subsequent efforts. :)

Has anyone heard the audio drama Star Trek Defiant? It's great. The voice work in it is top notch, and it's not visual so you can imagine what the show looks like instead of having hammy acting on the screen.

Star Trek Beyond seems interesting, but I have two problems with it.

1. The website is a mishmash of colors and oversized text that doesn't line up properly. It seems whoever authored the pages doesn't know about tables, and about how to make readable webpages.

Less color. More tables. Have thinks line up, and have the graphic for each episode link to the same link that the text link named "Play" does. People expect that.

2. How about an introduction or a faq? What's "The Alliance". why is the ship named "FSV" instead of "U.S.S.", why are there different uniforms, etc...

The first episode jumps right in and explains none of the backstory. It's VERY confusing. I don't know who the characters are, what their relationships to each other are, what universe I'm in (Is this meant to be the main Trek universe or a parallel universe?)

For me, it takes away from enjoying the story.
