I always though they should have done this:

Combine Ep I and Ep II into Phantom Menace--

We start with Qui Gon and Obi Wan rescuing Amidala on Naboo, cut to a Luke-aged Anakin (Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Jude Law) pretty moody and ticked he and his mom are slaves-- Qui Gon runs into Anakin, he wins the pod race (as a 17 year old, much more believable).

Upon returning to Naboo, assassination attempt on Amidala (a sniper thing, not some stupid slug attack in bed) and ANakin chases down the attacker-- from the evidence, Mace Windu is dispatched to Camino. Once he chases Jengo Fett's vehicle to Geonosis, he calls for backup- we get the final scenes (jedi slaughter, Dooku confrontation) the movie ending with Yoda, etc. surveying the clone army.

Episode II would the first half be the best part from Clone Wars series, the second half be Revenge of the Sith, AND THIS IS THE BEST IDEA EVER, ending after Anakin is dubbed Vader, and the last shot is Sidius saying "only then will we have peace"-- cue credits.

Episode III opens with Order 66 and Anakin's attack on the temple- giving more room for backstory of the rebellion, more time at the end to see Leia and Amidala shipped to ALderaan, Obi Wan confronting everyone on Tatooine and Yoda going into exile.

one of the best lines from any "Spaced" episode:

"Jar Jar Binx makes the Ewoks look like f***ing Shaft."

Woah! You must've seen a different Indy than me. Hulk and X-Files (while not being the greatest) were miles, MILES beyond that thing Lucas tried to pass off as Indiana Jones. It lost me the minute the CGI gopher (groundhog, mole, whatever it was) popped up on screen. My god was it awful. I can accept villains pulling the still-beating heart from innocent villagers, but surviving nuclear blast zones in a flying refrigerator just doesn't keep my disbelief successfully suspended.

'All Good Things' was a perfect ending to TNG and I almost wish they'd just left it there. We had to suffer 1 mediocre movie (Generations), 1 decent TV-episode-masquerading-as-a-movie (Insurrection), 1 absolutely abysmal, vomit-inducing trainwreck that made grown men cry and killed several puppies (Nemesis) to get one pretty good movie (First Contact).

# 43. let’s hope not. We need this film to be a blockbuster and it can’t afford to flop. I hope that it’s a lot better than “The Phantom Menace,” which was one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Worst film? Come on, now. Dude, you can't be serious?
TPM was infinitely more entertaining than say... the 2nd and 3rd Matrix installments, ANY Joel Schumacher Batman, The Incredible Hulk (1st film),
The 2nd Fantastic Four.... I could go on and on. (if I had time).

Saying that Nemesis is the second best TNG film isn't saying much. God, when they started singing, I wanted to leave the theater never to return.

Has anyone tweaked on the similarities between TFM and TMP? In both cases, the filmmakers had to try to measure up to what came before, a daunting task. In both cases, SFX were overblown in an attempt to overimpress the audience at the expense of character and story elements. Other artists have had similar issues with past mega-success. After Thriller, I heard Michael Jackson had guitar players record licks hundreds of times for Bad.

The only thing new from Lucas I enjoyed was the animated "Clone Wars" on Cartoon Network. Now, there's another "Clone Wars" coming on in August. I have a feeling it will not live up to the TV version. The CGI FX look interesting but I wonder what the hell is the point of this movie.....I would rather spend time wondering what happenend to Luke and Lea while they were growing up or after ROTJ.

Then there's a series in the works. More opportunities to mess up a good thing.

Doug,

Only something that is perfect cannot be improved. I can very much understand people complaining about some of Lucas’s changes to episodes 4, 5, and 6 which alter the story; e.g., the Han-shot-first furore. However, I cannot understand people complaining about improving the special effects in general. Nostalgia seems a petty millstone on progress. If we can make something look better and more convincing, that should be a motivation to action. Hence, I support the TOS Remastering project, and will buy the DVDs if, and only if, they are released on blu-ray in widescreen.

Please don't encourage Lucas to go back and tinker with his films... the tinkering with #4,5 and 6 was uncalled for.
