73 - The Emmy snubs (apart from Nimoy playing Spock -- the only Emmy nods from TOS that I can recall) are just further indication of how far the series was ahead of its time during its original network run.
Now there is an opportunity to rectify this wrong to some extent by voting this scene from "City ..." the most memorable dramatic moment in television history as a way of showing these Emmy people how short-sighted they were forty-one years ago.
At least the Hugo awards and the Writer's Guild ones were astute enough to recognize the quality and power of Ellison's script. Now we can let others know how wonderful this show was and how unfortunate it was that it was virtually ignored and cancelled too early.

78 - It might have something to do with the quality of the script for each episode...

Hmm... An episode about having the restoration of all of history as we know it riding on Kirk's shoulders, even as it breaks his heart, versus one where telepathic and telekinetic beings force him to let a midget ride on his back.

The Kirk-Uhura kiss is a unique moment it TV history, but it comes from a rather mediocre and at times even embarrassing episode, whereas the scene at the end of CotEoF provides a fitting and amazing conclusion to a superiorly scripted and directed episode.

Apparently, Ellison's original script had Kirk watching frozen in indesicion as someone else sees to doing the difficult act of letting her die. Good thing the production team on Trek had the wisdom to change that or Kirk's character would have been compromised for the rest of the series. Just goes to show that sometimes even the best writers don't make the best calls, and others can improve upon aspects of their work.

I honestly don't understand why City on the Edge of Forever seems to get so much support for best Star Trek TOS episode and best moment. How can that scene of Keeler getting run over be more significant than the inter-racial kiss between Kirk and Uhura? I wish they had put that scene up for voting instead. Just an opinion.

#75
it is a good thing that the Twilight Zone moment wasn't one of Shatner's episodes. What would a Shatnerphile do?

I voted for Trek...but it was a close thing. The Twilight Zone scene came in a close second.
