If it made the same chirp noise like it did when Valeris activated it in the Enterprise Kitchen, I'd buy it. It should have been based around the 011 serial numbered Phaser, which I believe to be one of the units used by the assassins. That was the one that had the 1701-A label on it's placard, and had the more curved cowling that closely wrapped around the nozzle. I had always thought that one looked the best. At least Master Replicas version is closer to the actual prop than the playmates version, which had a shortened rear-end, lack of ID Placard on the bottom of the magazine, and was completely undersized. then again, it was a kids toy after all. This one is faithful to the 070 unit, though, right down to the details on the placard, which had the 1701 markings, and the fact that "Enterprise" was located below the ship's number instead of the other way around like on the 011 unit, for example, which I assume is the corrected way it should be situated, since the other (and I presume, later) props with placards had the same "011" style of ID placard. i assume the 070 was the "Hero" model then, eh?

Hope the Tricorder does better.......

I have been drooling over the Mark IX Science Tricorder since I held something similar at my first Star Trek convension. I managed to pre-order one for $315 on StarTrek.com. The prices are always going to be high for these items. The Tricorder 17 years ago was priced at $300.

Them's some lovely gadgets. I will never buy MR stuff at their prices. But them's some lovely gadgets.

Art Asylum/Diamond Select is going to release the Wrath of Khan phaser in January (allegedly). It's priced at $39 or $40 bucks. That'll work for me.

Hi Dennis (33) I confess I have to disagree with you on that one! I saw the Star Trek V phaser as an extention of Nicholas Meyer's more grounded approach to Star Trek (which, indeed, is the approach of Abrams and co!)

The phasers in TOS were great, in their 60s gee-whiz silver-age comic book kind of way. TMP's were soulless props to match a soulless film that was only pretending to be Star Trek (although I loved the 'spray' firing FX used on them in TWOK!)

The assault phaser looks mean: it takes the Jefferies design and makes it look believable as a weapon. With its barrel consciously designed to look like the head of the xenomorphs from the Alien films it has weight and looks like it's built for the purpose of causing harm, as any real gun should.

It certainly pees all over those stupid dustbusters they used in the 80s Treks and beyond! :p

Also, Star Trek V, while often feeble, is far from the worst film of the ten released so far. There are some great moments in there, like Kirk fighting the Caitian in the bar and the group mindmeld. I wish Paramount would allow Shatner to revise the film for Blu-ray release. A few sensible trims and some new FX would do wonders for it, even if it still looks cheap and underresourced!

<I>"$500 for a toy gun when I could get a real one for $500."</i>

...Which means you're not dealing with the proper illegal arms dealer on the street :-)
