1. Maggie Gyllenhaal nominally is lovely but her face did look like it was wax-melting in TDK. The makeup was overdone and caked on and the effect was borderline homely-ness.

(as opposed to holmes-ly-ness - Ed)

2. imo <--- it was deliberate.

Perhaps it's the amateur director in me, but I believe it was a deliberate aesthetic decision; that Nolan wanted to Katie-comparatively plain-Maggie-up in order to justify what he does with the character.

I'd explain what I mean more, but I can't really do it without spoilers, and y'all probably smart-enough to know what I'm meaning to imply anyway.

"The Chronicles of Riddick was RUBBISH!!!"

Maybe to you but there's a whole lot of people who actually really liked it, believe it or not. No one is asking YOU to go see it.

5 - South African Dude

"Cher is an icon, but she’s no oscar winning actress."

She actually is. She won an Oscar for Best Actress back in 1988 for her role in Moonstruck.

Great poll this time [I love to comment on those].

The one and only way that a moneyless economy can come about is with the breakthrough development of very cheap -or even free- energy, be it zero-point or cold fusion or whatever.

And then it will only work if the developers allow it to be free for everyone.

Say a simple method for cold fusion pops into existence.
Mobil, Exxon, the Middle East oil barons, GM et al and a certain number of the Status Quo political bent will do everything you can imagine [and maybe some things you couldn't] to make sure the technology is stillborn and stays hidden for a long, long time. If the wealthy's stranglehold on worldwide power is threatened, imagine the consequences for the poor schnook who makes the discovery.
When it comes to those who hold the power, I am a cynical person and I will remain that way until something really grand like this breakthrough happens to change my outlook.

i cannot believe that so many people believe this story about Cher being cast as catwoman. o....m.....g.....it is totally bs, people! its been confirmed all over the place....and, btw, that london paper that reported it has about the same credibility as the national enquirer. so, no worries bat-nolan fans....were not getting cher OR catwoman in the next one, as confirmed by David Goyer and Jonah Nolan. it would be a huge mistake to use catwoman, because, in case no one noticed, in almost every single story that catwoman is in she is either #1: not the main villain, but instead just a burglar love interest or #2: working WITH batman....which is just stupid, cuz batman would never work with the bad guy. man, now i gotta go see The Dark Knight again......BEST. MOVIE. EVER

>>Katie Holmes was a black pit of blank expressions and faux fierceness in BB,<<

For my money, that entire MOVIE was a black pit of blank expression and faux fierceness, so I guess it works.

Wow..that's a funky concept. McKidd will be the first actual Scottish person to play Highlander! Connor was played by a French-American while Duncan was played by a Italian-Brit! Sure there was Sean Connery but he played a Spaniard of all things.
