Great Links: “And we’re back” Edition

TrekMovie took a day off but we are back and starting off with The Great Links…our home for all those Trek references out there in the universe. This week we have Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld on the Enterprise, more political Trek, a Stargate star admitting to Trek fandom, Worf and Geordi dueling for most pain  and so much more.

Trekkin with Vista
Last month The Great Links shared with you a new TV commercial with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld that contained a brief Trek reference. That was not enough to save the boring campaign that soon was replaced by Microsoft, however the Jerry and Bill campaign has been revived with more Trekkiness as a new slideshow by a Trek fan who has uploaded his vision on Flickr.

More Trek The Vote
America is caught up in election fever. Last week we highlighted some Trek-themed items related to the election, and this week there are more. The folks at io9 have taken a look at Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton and determined that Palin is Star Wars and Clinton is Star Trek…really

The ultimate geek battle hits politics

Rush Limbaugh is also getting into the Trek reference business, noting that he sees a lot of Klingon in VP candidate Joe Biden at the VP debate last week.

Limbaugh is mixing his TOS and TNG Klingons

Big Bang Theory Trek again
We have previously reported that the CBS sitcom about nerds living in the big city, Big Bang Theory, regularly has Trek references….and here is the latest (uploaded to YouTube by Diamond Select Toys due to the usage of one  of their toys as a prop)

Pictures of the week – Trekkin it to the streets
io9 had a feature on the Improv team Star Trekkin on the streets of New York. The group do periodic shows in NYC, check out their official site.

Roddenberry.com hacked!?!
Our friends at Roddenberry.com held a vcast last week about their latest contest, but was it hacked…see for yourself.

Quote of the week – step into the gate

I grew up with three brothers and they were all the big Sci-Fi shows. And I actually really got into Star Trek: Next Generation and Babylon 5. I guess I slowly got indoctrinated.

– Stargate and Sanctuary star Amanda Tapping on if she is a sci-fi fan
 [Monsters and Critics]

Samantha Carter = Trekkie

Videos of the week: who has it worse?
Trek Mashup video maker extraordinaire GeneralGrin has put together two compilations of the TNG characters that always seemed to be getting the shaft. So who had it worse?

Geordi LaForge in "The Most Unlucky Guy In Starfleet"

Worf in  "Worf Gets Pwned"

Help a sick child’s Trek Dream come true – follow-up
In the last Great Links we pointed to a Northern Scot article about the Dreams4U charity trying to help 11 year-old Grant Alderton fulfill his Star Trek dream. In a follow-up article, Northern Scot reports that help has been ‘flooding in.’ If any of that was from Trekmovie.com readers…well done.

That hack-in was funny as heck!

And, dare I say it….FIRST???

I still want that chair. That improv group in NYC just proves that Trek is on the up and up again! Let’s keep it going, make it HUGE again!
-The Doc

most unlicky???

Hecklerspray picks the 26 Hottest Trek Babes…. c’on Jerri Ryan over Nichelle Nichols?

AAAAAGHHHHHHHHH!!!!

The Hecklerspray list of the hottest Star Trek babes is…well….wrong. Very very wrong. Not the concept, of course, but the order of the list. It’s almost backwards.

Mongo very sad. Mongo watch Roddenberry clip. Mongo never get that 5:45 back.

If the nitwits at Hecklerspray came up with the top TWENTY SIX, why couldn’t they just make it the top TWENTY EIGHT and include Kim Cattral and Nana Visitor, instead of tossing them a ridiculous “honorable mention?” I mean, I’d be happy to buy either one of them dinner, for crissakes… Or they could’ve made it the top 50 so they could’ve included Majel Barret, Terri Garr and whoever else I’m missing…
Star Trek has a long history of putting beautiful women on screen.

okay, no more of this “taking a day off” anthony. you clearly have no respect for those of us who are paying good money for trekmovie and demand that you give us product on a 24-hour-a-day basis. it’s this kind of selfish, lazy, money grubbing behavior that led to the current financial…

oh. wait a minute. it’s free. and great.

never mind. carry on.

Marianna Hill should be #1!!!!

The Hecklerspray lists was way off, and very odd selections. Seems thrown together to me. Personally, that girl featured in the star trekkin photo isn’t bad looking at all. :-)

Marianna Hill, definitely robbed — glad to see some consensus here. The hottest woman in the original series (though Lois Jewell’s Drusilla from Bread and Circuses should have made the list — I mean, “Food, wine, whatever you wish.”, come on!)

Terry Farrell should be #1, though. Beautiful and one of the most fully rounded (pun not really intended) in the entire ST galaxy. She really made Jadzia Dax into something.

Fully rounded character, I meant.

And Marianna Hill also played Fredo’s drunken-bimbo showgirl wife in The Godfather Part II.

Geordi’s so unlucky, the caption has a typo.. ;)

2 days without a blog post, I was getting worried TrekMovie!
And, I love that improv team!

My friends and I used to joke about Worf constantly getting his butt kicked during TNG’s run. It seemed to be an easy out for the writers when they wanted to feature the exceptional strength of another character.

“If this guy can beat up Worf, then the audience will know for sure that he means business.”

It ranks right up there with the “Wesley Saves the Ship” and “The Holodeck Goes on the Fritz” cliches.

And Marianna Hill was definitely robbed on that list. She is astonishingly beautiful! Those dimples just make me weak in the knees.

Yeah, you are right, Buckaroo. Frelling great dimples!
Oh, and Mongo, good to see you too ;))

Hmm my picks……
1) Terry Farrell
2) Marina Sirtis
3) Diana Ewing(Droxine-The Cloud Minders)
4) Nicole de Boer
5) Chase Masterson
6) Beth Toussaint
7) Jolene Blalock
8) Jeri Ryan
9) Ashely Judd
10) Suzie Plaxson
Kind of lame, I know, but I gota get my ST women list in there.

They forgot the rampant sweat stains under Gates’s arms.

Sorry Jolene (made by Mattel) Blalock does NOT out-sex ANY of the women on Kevin’s list… and certainly not Michelle Forbes.

Anyway, great round-up, Anthony!

Ms. Hill definitely got robbed. :) Most definitely.

Worf got pawned? Geordi unlicky?

I thought this was a family site.

I’d have a hard time rating women like that, but I Have to agree Marianna Hill was rated way to low (below Droxine??!??).

Yeah….Nancy Kovak needs to be way higher on that list.

I agree with #6, Gary Seven. You could almost turn that sexy babe list on its head, and it would be more accurate. And where the heck is Sabrina Scharf, Miramanee? Easily a top 10 babe in all of Trek.

Scott B. out.

I think any list that anyone comes up with, will always get those who disagree. I submit that “Star Trek” – in all its iterations – has been successful at casting extraordinarily attractive women.

This may be the lack of sleep talking, but didn’t Roddenberry once comment that there was a reason for this? That humanity had improved to the point where this kind of physical quality was more the norm?

I could be making that up.

Yay! Great Links!

#14 – Geordi was pretty “unlicky” too, if you know what I mean. The vid glossed over his lack of luck in the romantic department.

Can’t wait to see pix of the Scottish kid’s Trek bedroom. I always wished they had Trek suites at the Hilton to go with the ST:E attraction. I would have loved to stay in a room that looked like Picard’s cabin on the Enterprise.

The Palin/Clinton story was a hoot.

That list is WAY off!… here ya go…
1) Nicole de Boer
2) Emily Banks (Tonia Barrows)
3) Chase Masterson
4) Grace Lee Whitney
5) Beth Toussaint (Yar)
6) Ashely Judd
7) Jolene Blalock
8) Terry Farrell
9) Kirstie Alley (Saavik)
10) ANY of the Orion girls from Enterprise.
Ryan & Dawson don’t make the top twenty!!

Jeri Ryan as the hottest Trek woman… blah blah blah…. SO boring, SO overplayed, SOOOO not true. Not even close. Jolene has it over her in every way.

Where is Lt. Palamas?? Marianne Hill was robbed for sure. So was Nichelle and Nancy Kovacs.

Oh… and umm… WHERE is Barbara Luna?!?!?!? SHE was *THE* hottest woman EVER in Star Trek, hands down.

Worf sounds like a cartoon pirate! ARRRRGGGH!
I loved the Vista slideshow!
Anthony, have I thanked you lately for this wonderful website and this wonderul blog? THANKS

OK Anthony mans, it new day. You have day off. Mongo want more Trek things and news.

#13 Jai1138 persons

“Fully rounded character, I meant.”

Mongo KNOW what you meant.
You have same last name as friend of Mongo. You related?

And guten dag, fakesteve mans. (Did Mongo say right? Mongo have tough time with english let alone try hand at other language.)

#27 You got that one right! I kept hoping that someone would place Barbara Luna at #1–Which is where I believe she should be….She is STILL Beautiful! Go LUNA!

They got That wrong Palin would be Janeway but she’d still be evil.
don’t care who Clinton would be. #16. Buckaroohawk Agree totally.
what’s up Mongo?

The scariest moment in all of the two mash ups is when Worf comes under attack and Wesley Crusher comes to save him.

Imagine the sense of doom if young Wesley Crusher, complete with rainbow stripe uniform, is your only hope.

And Droxine from the Cloud Minders is the #1 Kirk conquest imho.

Hey, Buckaroohawk. The geniuses of TVTropes think as you do:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheWorfEffect

Barbara Luna has to be at the top of the list. Any woman who would try to sleep her way through the fleet has to be “respected”

#33—I think “Droxine” is a “Spock conquest”…and by far the worst name for a Trek babe (at least in TOS).

Droxine: possible side effects include erectile dysfunction, nausea, birth defects, blurred vision, sudden death, and/or explosive stool.

Either that, or it’s just plain nighttime cold medicine.

Don’t forget Jill Ireland in “This Side of Paradise.” She got Spock’s Vulcan va-va-va-voom va-va-va-vooming. And Arlene Martel (T’Pring in “Amok Time”) was also a very beautiful woman — although rather cold and calculating in a flawlessly logical kind of way. God bless Theodore Sturgeon! If you’ve never read his fiction, do yourself a favor and start right away.

peridic shows?

do you mean periodic? or parodic

time for a spellcheck, Anthony…

I saw GeneralGrin’s O’brien shoulder video, if this will be extended to all the things he went through, he might even beat Geordi.

#37

T’Pring? The poll is NOT for Trek’s “Most Beautiful Women”; it is for Trek’s “Hottest Babes”. There was nothing hot about T’Pring, she was so cold she redefined absolute zero.

Barbara Luna was indeed HOT and ready for action. She should be in there.

39 – To each his own.

Oops. Previous post was meant for #40, not #39. Also, #40, I find the phrase “beautiful woman” far less demeaning and objectifying than “hot babe.”

One last word on this: it has been my experience in real life, not necessarily in Trek, that many women that most men would find “hot” could freeze your drink with a glance, or a word, if they should deem to spare one.

Oh, that should read “women who…” not “women that….” Ladies, please forgive me for objectifying.

#43

Brett – lighten up, it’s a joke!!

Surprised Joan Collins didn’t make the list. maybe it’s the whole “hot” vs, “beautiful” bugaboo? As heterosexual ladyperson I’m probably not qualified to make the distinction.

ByGeorge: Apologies to you. I meant no offense.

#46- I also was surprised Ms. Collins didn’t make the list. She was absolutely lovely in that episode.

#46

Funny, Mongo never get that you lady person from you name. But now Mongo know to call you Underpants Monster lady.

Mongo had different kind of monster in mind in someone underpants. That make Mongo feel dirty.

Also, Mongo think that majority of women not get too insulted if know they thought of as “hot”. All lady beautiful.

Okey, So Geordi got it way worse then Worf did. I mean Worf is Worf, he can take it. Geordi is just a HEW-MON

as for my favorite trek babes…. I don’t know all the contestants (shame on me) but let me tell about a few of my haves and have nots

The haves (not in order)……

1. Hoshi Sato – Okey did any one watch the third season episode with that telipathic dude. Enough said.
2. Ensign Dax (Teri) – Come on, do I need an explination for that one
3. Tona Barrows – from Shore Leave, once again if I have to explain, go watch the freakin episode. (I have a thing for red heads)
4. Ensign Lefler – yes indeed, Ashley Judd on Star Trek, even a blind homosexual man would say “that’s hot”

Okey…The have nots
1. T’Pol – What? I don’t see it.
2. Seven of Nine – She is overplayed. Whoever wrote that hottest 26 should have his head examined.
3. Saavik – Uhm…..what?
4. Yoman Rand – The Beehive, just doesn’t work for a someone who’s Bee-Phobic.

well, there you go, not a top ten list, but it’s what I’ve got
