Finally a normal answer from J.J. on the Shatner subject. Paramount should have released this movie in December. They are being very greedy. Hope it doesn’t bite them on the butt!

Why doesn’t someone check how many pages the script of Mission impossible 3 and compare to MI:3 running time. Same director and writers, Maybe it will give us a clue or insight regarding XI running time. Remember Trek movie reported that script for XI was 128 pages.

It’s not a legal matter, since you are doing so behind the fence of internet anonymity. It’s a matter of integrity. You called him a liar. He never came close to lying.

Where’s the “flip-flop”? That’s in your imagination. Period.

I’ve yet to see where you get that he lied. Not only did he not say a role was offered, but he never even implied as much. What does the fact that a scene was written (and the explanation that it didn’t work) have to do with an offer? As for what Shatner “made clear”, it couldn’t be more obvious that he was talking about “I don’t do cameos”.

You’re adding 2 and 2 to get 5, and that’s not the way it works.

You post in all caps that he “lied”. That makes “you” a liar…not JJ Abrams. And that is ‘not’ an opinion. It’s a fact. I challenge you to prove otherwise (not that you could even come close).

If I’m a little more abrasive than usual, it’s because I’m not in the mood for BS today. JJ Abrams hasn’t done a damned thing to warrant that crap. All he did was make a movie, and try to be as polite about the whole Shatner thing as possible in these repetitive interviews. It’s one thing to have an opinon. Calling a man a liar is completely different. If I wanted to read that ignorant BS, I’d go to AICN. Back it up, or don’t say it at all.

#166 – Whatever… You can only hope that the Trek movie will be even half as good as The Dark Knight was. Or Batman Begins, for that matter. I’ve been a fan of both Star Trek and Batman for about 30 years, nearly all my life, and those Chris Nolan Bat-films have totally nailed it. I haven’t seen anything about this Trek movie, so far, to get me as excited as the recent Bat films have.

I’d LOVE to be proven wrong about that. Honestly. I want to give Abrams a chance (Lost is my favorite TV show ever, replacing DS9 for that honor), but I haven’t seen or heard anything to this point that has me intrigued to see the new Star Trek. Hopefully the story will be so good that even I’ll be won over. But even then, I have doubts that they’ll top what Chris Nolan’s done with Batman.

For the record, many of my favorite films in recent years have been marathons: TDK, the LOTR trilogy, and the Harry Potter films. The HP movies have been hit and miss (esp. when compared to the books), but I’ve enjoyed them generally. None of those movies have been an endurance test for me.

#199: With or without effects, that film stunk. It had more fundamental problems. And, if Paramount was wacky enough to “fix” it, they’d ned to start over with a new script. And a new director.

#209: I see no disrespect. JJ didn’t like the proposed Kirk scene, so he eliminated it, as he likely eliminated many proposed scenes. Shatner wasn’t teased, offered a role, etc. JJ couldn’t have told Shatner he didn’t get the job… because no job ever existed.

How in the hell does JJ not expect to get some
kind of back lash from disrespecting Shatner?
You can spin this in just about any way you want.
However not placing a phone call to tell someone
they did not get the job is just down right disrespectful.
When that person helped start the freaking thing!

Tone down the rhetoric, if you are speaking on behalf of JJ in a legal way then I don’t think this forum serves you well. ie an exchange of ideas and thoughts.

If you run this place, close it down
If your a poster, don’t be so closed minded
If JJ didn’t flip flop on the issue, then really this should have already been settled long ago.
