Hey, whatever happened to a truly progressive view of the future? Who's not to say that in the next coupla hundred years mankind evolves away from the need to cloth their females, kinda like the Ferengi! I say forget the miniskirts and leisure suits for the girls entirely and let em all get naked! If you ask me, that's progress!

Pragmaticus - send him my regards too...encased in your fist to his face. lol

nah just kidding...he wasn that bad with X3 actually...just a shame Singer didnt do it..

Funnily enough maybe it wouldve been best for superman if Singer had done X3 (obviously) and Ratner had done Superman - as superman lends itself more to colourful, lighthearted, loud action moviemaking that Ratner seems to specialise in...where as Singers brooding dark spiritual style (that was evidenced in X1, X2 and Superman) was far more apt for X3...

maybe Singer could have been assigned as an exec producer or consultant to Ratners superman (just to offer a few ideas etc) but directed X3

Ive a feeling that wouldve worked out better and wed have got an excellent X3 and a decent fun action packed Superman movie...instead of an ok X3 and a rather over serious, brooding, not so fun Superman...

Although superman fans openly celebrated singers announcment as director (and X fans mourned Ratners attachment) there were quite a few disappointed people when they saw the S film...

@26,

I don't know what you're saying about Italians, and I don't care to know.

Unrelated,
Hugh Laurie would be the best Doctor ever—that includes Baker.

On the issue of Doctor Who and race…

#30
"I think you will find it is being dominated by white people. And why are you so concerned with Skin colour?"

#33
"So you are saying it is OK to have aliens on Sci-Fi, but not black people."

#39
"29 … are you for real?"

Why am I so concerned with skin colour? I just find it curious, and unrealistic, that there are so many black people on the show. Is that so hard to understand?

I’m not against black people being on the show — I would find it odd if there weren’t any on the show ever — but why so many?

I know the main characters are mostly white, but there are LOADS of black people in the supporting cast. Statistically, 1 out of every 50 actors who audition for a role on the show will be black (2 will be asian and 47 will be white). But it seems more than 1 in 50 to me. One example is “Midnight” — the Doctor spent this episode on a plane with about 8 people and 3 of them were black.

I don’t see what is so hard to understand about my comment. If every single actor on the show was black, or ginger, or bald, or wore glasses, surely you would think it strange? Wouldn’t you? Obviously, it’s not that extreme, but it does seem highly disproportionate to me.

I’m likely to see more black people by watcihng 1 episode of Doctor Who than if I walk down a busy street in my town. It just doesn’t seem realistic. For every black person in the UK, there are two asian people. But you would NEVER think that from watching Doctor Who. With the odd exception, asian people practically don’t exist on Who.

My only conclusion is that the producers are racially prejudiced either in favour of black people, or against asian people. Or that black people are just more likely to audition for the show, which doesn’t seem likely.

"I don’t know what you’d tell the guy. Send him “Best Regards” from some fans at Trekmovie, and wish him good luck with Conan."

I know what to tell him. Tell him to stay away from it.

Exploits in the bedroom. Give me a break. Wel that says a lot. What an original. No one's ever been known for that. Especially in Hollywood. Why doesn't he concentrate on his craft. If that's his qualification then let's just get George Hamilton. Or Englebert Humperdink for that matter. Even Robert Plant.

Pragmaticus:

Ratner seems to get some good work thrown his way. Regardless of his personal life, crafting "movies" for the general public as opposed to "films" is not a thankless job. X-Men 3 was tired, and Ratner had to pick up the pieces left by Bryan Singer, from what I have heard.

Conan is a character capable of some depth, and John Milius only touched on it as Arnold was barely able to emote at the time. And the sequel was an abomination. Perhaps Ratner could finally place Conan within some point of real human history.

73, 75 - I can try to go through family channels. I'm related through marriage - his first cousin is my aunt - but we're so close with my aunt's family that they're like blood relatives. I've never actually met him myself, but we regularly get invited to New York premieres for his movies. He's more impressive for his exploits in the bedroom than he is for his moviemaking. And what he does is make movies, not films. There's a difference.

If Brett really is your cousin I admire your candor and your unbiased opinion of his abilities. And it's sad but I must admit I agree with you on all counts. I know he got on the project late but X-men 3 had all the right ingriedents to be great. Just the wrong chef. And they were all mixed horribly.

If you really do know him tell him to contact crazy John Milius again to rub some of his craziness on the script. I was very excited when I heard the Wachoski brothers were involved some time ago and they were seeking Milius's help. I've heard Milius has fallen out of favor in Hollywood. Is even difficult to deal with. But any man who writes the script to "Magnum Force" and directs James Earl Jones in one of the greatest screen villains ever filmed can't be all wrong.

The next Superman film should have Brainiac as the villian, who uses all his scientific wizardry to defeat the Man of Steel. While Brainiac attacks Earth in an attempt to shrink and steal one of the cities, Supes discovers that the evil genius has the city of Kandor from Krypton on board his ship! Now THAT would be worth seeing!

68: Pragmaticus:

If Brett is your cousin, can please you ask him to do a better job with Conan?

A film about a half-naked barbarian king can easily descend into stupidity.

The bar has been set by LOTR. 100m is a lot of money. Best not to waste it.
