Patrick Stewart would be a wonderful casting gem for Boston Legal.

But they'd better make haste to get any more Trek folk on Boston Legal. As I understand the deal, the only reason BL was renewed at all was to induce BL's David E. Kelley to back off from 'Life on Mars'. The LOM pilot and supporting cast were all scrapped because it played pretty badly, so I hear.
As to LOM itself, it's no Journeyman, but since I can't have that, it'll have to do.

#41 Charles:

In that case, I'll take you up on your original offer (in #38) to refer to Mr. Shatner as "The Original Kirk".

#40. lostrod -- It's just more fun to tease the Shat. There was never entire discussions on whether or not Nichols, Takei, or Koenig were in the movie; just the Shat. That whole debacle is where the reference comes from. I do fully realize that Shatner is still Kirk and will always be Kirk, but it's fun to add little references that say, "Hey, guess what, he's still not in the movie!"

In fact, when I first started writing these reports (back when it was "This Week in Trek"), Anthony and I decided on a running gag in which every week one of the news items would be "William Shatner still isn't in the movie." The "he who was Kirk" reference is kind of a hold-over from that gag, if that makes sense.

I greatly respect journalism and professional news writing. In fact, I may end up pursuing a career in it if acting doesn't work out. But this isn't professional news writing; I'm not getting paid for this. In addition, Anthony is cool and lets me add my own personal, humorous touches to the stories I write. These touches are important to me in any writing I do because i feel they make a story more my own creation; that is why I can't stand writing formal papers. The more humor I can inject into a story, the better.

Of course, I realize if I were to become a professional journalist I would have to conform to a set of rules which would prohibit my tongue-in-cheek writing style. But I guess that's just something I will have to deal with if I choose to go down that path. Hopefully, if I make enough of a name for myself, any editors I work for will loosen my leash a bit. :)

Charles - why is it necessary to tease Mr. Shatner? He is apparently not in the movie, but on all my TOS DVDs the role of Kirk is still William Shatner.

If you followed your 'not in the movie' logic, you should reference Mr. Takei, Ms. Nichols, etc. by the same 'He/She was' reference.

I understand the desire to have some humor, but information that is reported as 'News' should be news, not editorials.

That comes from 15+ years in the news business. :)

Oliver Crawford. May you rest in peace. You were a great writer and you wrote 3 of the best Tos shows. Wish you could have wrote more Star Trek.

#37 lostrod -- I enjoy doing it because it's a reference to the whole "Is Shat in the new movie" debacle. Basically I'm saying "He was Kirk, but he ain't playing Kirk no more because J.J. don't want him, haha!" I do it in pretty much every celeb. It's just my twisted brand of humor. :)

However, if you feel that strongly about it, I can come up with another way to tease Shatner, lol!

Or I can just refer to him as "the original Kirk" ;)

Don't do it on my account, Charles:)

Actually, the only reason I brought it up in a previous edition was that Mr. Shatner appeared to be the only actor that was consistently referenced in the past tense.

Kate Mulgrew, for example is simply referenced as Kathyrn Janeway and Rene Auberjonois was not referred to as 'He who was Odo'.

I enjoy your articles, but think it would be fairer to refer to Mr. Shatner as 'The Original Kirk' if the purpose is to differentiate him from Chris Pine's variation of Kirk.
