Pine Talks Trek Pressure (and wrestling?) November 4, 2008

Star Trek’s new captain Kirk is stepping into some big shoes both in terms of an iconic character and starring in a big budget Hollywood movie. In a new movie the actor revealed that he does feel the pressure, but also showed that he keeps his sense of humor.

Certainly, I felt the pressure of being involved in a big-studio film. When people are paying $150 million to make a movie and your track record is films that are way smaller by comparison, felt a need to step it up. I wanted to make sure I did my job and did my part and did it as best I could because a lot was on the line.

Lastly Pine was asked about his relationship with the original Kirk, William Shatner, and he showed that he is keeping his sense of humor:
We wrestle on Saturdays — Greco-Roman. And that’s pretty much the extent of our relationship. It’s usually a draw.

Yes, because if he doesn’t shave the stubble that he grew AFTER the movie was filmed, it’ll magically appear in the film when it’s released.

In a perfect fan-service universe, Pine would feel “a need to step it up” to live up to the Trek legacy, but if he’s more motivated by the film’s budget, I guess that works, too :) Whatever works, just bring it on …
You know, I am frankly perplexed, flummoxed, astounded, and just plain shocked that Denise, Spockanella, and Vulcanista don’t have that picture of Shatner and Pine “rasslin” as their wallpaper.
