#44 - you have just set out, rather eloquently how I feel about this whole exercise. Abrams is making an ST movie, but almost every chance he gets he says it's not for the ST fans. Well, thanks for that Mr Abrams. It makes great business sense to pre-alienate one of the largest guaranteed audiences a film ever had - I hope the studio shows you some appropriate appreciation!

Oh, and there are loads of TOS fans in the UK, trust me!

I am really happy that for the first time i can remember Star Trek is being brought to people outside the US - for too long it seemed like Paramount only thought Trek sold in the US.

i must say, from the people who are not trekkies, that i've shown this trailer to - everyone has been lost for words - blown away by the scale and excitement of it.

rock on JJ :D

That sort of hostile (not to mention, false) stereotype has no place on a Trek website. So much for IDIC.

Guys, we live in a global economy. Foreign grosses may not have been much of a consideration back in '82, but these days the foreign box office is most certainly a major factor in the marketing push for a film this big. And as Trek hasn't been a big performer overseas, it only makes sense that Abrams & Co would concentrate there first.

Think of it in terms of an election campaign - of course you want to have your big, ra-ra rallies with loyal supporters so they feel good about what's happening. Yet, you have to do your big push in the areas where you haven't already won. It's great to motivate your base, but you won't win unless you appeal to the undecided voters. That's all JJ is doing.

,,,Kids, let's keep this in perspective. So long as the French still think Jerry Lewis is funny, there's no hope for them. Ergo, their reaction to Star Trek should come as no surprise, and Paranoidmount should just write that country off and concentrate on more enlightened markets.
