OK, y'all. Don't lose faith completely. I just talked to the guy who's handling the MR Mark IX Tricorder. What happened was - there were manufacturing issues with the product, and only about 200 of them were sent out. Then, MR was bought out by another company. When the transfer occurred, unfortunately the licensing didn't transfer. The new company is trying to obtain the license for Star Trek. When and if they do, I was told that they are going to fix the issues with the Mark IX and produce them, and then they would like to expand their product line to other ST items and even perhaps a medical tricorder. So hang in there. If you're like me and you REALLY want one of these bad boys, you'll wait for it, and it'll be totally worth it when they arrive.

Just an update - MR has canceled production on the Mark IX due to major manufacturing issues...which really SUCKS as I was going to get this as a gift but found out that their order was canceled.

I have been waiting over 6 months now, and I don't think you would even wait that long to have a Porshe custom built. Having only slated 2000 of these; one would think they would have started production around the same time they announced the pre-order sales. I have been slightly disappointed with some of what I've heard, and seen on many sites showing the tricorder. I know that if Diamond Select makes these, they will certainly be cheaper, and with DS adding voice, and control on many of their replicas; I am sure their version of the Mark IX will have these options. I, however, would rather change the scan sounds, and maybe light patterns; then to hear Data commenting on life forms. I love that DS makes a very affordable, and attractive piece, but to push a button on a communicator, and hear Scottie's voice; is still kind of geared toward the younger crowd, while MR is geared towarded the serious collector.

I'll do just that, because if there's even half a chance of me forking over that much money, being able to have button commands would certainly sweeten the deal. I just wish there was a way to know for sure, but like you say, checking from time to time can't hurt.

Matt, hold out hope that after MR is done producing these, that Diamond Select is next in line to produce their version. So far they have done the comunicator, phaser, and now the tricorder from the origanal series, so it only figures they will do the Next Generation series of props; after MR is done their limited additions.

Dumb question, but does anyone have any knowledge, assumption, or inkling that MR, or anyone else, will ever produce one that actually responds to button touch?

I noticed quite a few comments of disappointment that the MR and other tricorders do not have one of the coolest features on one of the cheapest replicas, the playmates one... Where you press buttons and the device responds appropriately.

Googling this would probably yield very little so I thought anyone "connected" here may know something... Anything.

It is stated that the lights and sound are spot on, but I have noticed in videos of the MR tricorder that the thin line of LED's that run between the other LED's on the top of the tricorder; does not scan the opposite direction of the fartherist front set of scanning LED's (in red). I have watched VOY very closely, and they all but show this thing off, and it clearly shows that these LED's scan. The MR Tricorder shows this bar
of LED's lite, but only two red LED's flash in this part of the display.

This from voyager and some of the earlier TNG movies. The tricorder you are talking about is the TV series tricorder and was changed to look more fancy for the big screen.

The master replicas is great get one...
