Uhura will hopefully get a better shout but I’ve always hated token feamle syndrome. Putting Janeway in charge of Voyager did not make up for the fact that she was sexist. She had almost no female officers in her crew and tried to block Belanna’s appointment as chief engineer.

I’m only basing my view on the screen shots so far. Even if she is a cadet, the orion looks as though she is a ‘love interest’. The only shots we’ve seen so far are of her in bed with Kirk!

And yes, there were only 3 recurring women, which is why it is so frustrating that two of them are absent!

I’m willing to be proved wrong but the screen shots and cast list do not look promising in terms of sexism.

Get out!! Nana did the computer voice? I read this about the computer voice:

“Actress Judi M. Durand was the computer voice for Cardassian facilities such as Terok Nor/Deep Space 9 on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. She had earlier provided the Spacedock computer voice in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.”

Wow! Who knew…

I agree with Wick and Katie. Over the years I found her voice — and her cadence for the TNG computer — increasingly distracting. Perhaps it was more the way they used the computer voice — the computer wasn’t usually very bright (in a world where Data was pretty bright, and I know there have been all sorts of explanations that they didn’t want a sentient computer etc.) and was relied on a bit too much (ie. the many episodes Geordi solves the mystery by asking the computer the right question). Have to say I liked Nana Visitor’s anonymous yet sexy DS9 computer way better.
