Goodness, such spewing is happening here. I've been a fan of Star Trek since the 60s--you know, the days when we were insulted because ignorant people referred to us as "Trekkies." We were Trekkers back then, thank you very much. I must admit someone who calls his- or herself a Trekkie and a purist in the same sentence makes me suspicious; but I'm paranoid that way. And time does march on.

I have a lot of hope about this movie and much of it is based on Nimoy's comments in various interviews. There will be changes, some of which I'll like and some of which I won't -- but the movie isn't being made for me. It's being made for *US*, all of us, purist, part-timer, barely-knows-what-science-fiction-is-types, and so forth.

One thing has me really jazzed about the movie: In the latest issue of Star Trek Magazine, Nimoy says that toward the end of a screening of the movie his wife turned to him and said she wished the movie would never end. Now, THAT's the kind of movie I'm looking forward to.

Happy [insert winter holiday of choice here] to all,

Cheers,
Sadie the Elder

PS: Someone mentioned "Spock's Brain" in an earlier post. I think from now on whenever I feel concerned about this or that in the movie I'll just remember it could always be a whole lot worse.

WOW -- I agree with Anthony, we're all grown-ups here, please NO NEED for name calling, ESPECIALLY for this time of year -- when there is real suffering that is going in this crazy world of ours, and everyday I pray that the suffering will go away. Having said that I believe that it is a good thing that we can "agree to disagree", and yes be passionate about our beliefs. But lets take a few steps back.

For those of you who have seen my posts over the past year and a half, you will know that I am as "old school" as they come, if not MORE. I have stated many times before it's not so much about canon, but so much more about a continuity that did in fact exist in the ST universe as we knew it. I have repeatedly stated multiple concerns of mine regarding this movie (new design, bridge, Pike's original crew, Gary Mitchell, Finney, etc. etc.).

You know what I have three magic words for all us "GET, OVER and IT"!!!!!
This is JUST A MOVIE for G-d's sake (I am very passionate about Star Trek), again JUST A MOVIE. Lets debate, lets argue -- but lets not get personal with each other. Kirk and crew were one of the BIGGEST PARTS of my young life, you know what -- they STILL ARE, but they are just fictional characters (yes who we do LOVE). Whatever changes are clearly coming (and I'm NOT CRAZY about them), lets not judge anything until we see the final product on May 9th. Lets root for this film to somehow be the VERY BEST ST MOVIE/EPISODE EVER!!!! Because of that happens, WE ALL WIN!!!!

Happy Holidays, Happy, Healthy and SAFE New Year to All!

I hope this film isn't mindless superficial fluff! The trailer gives me that impression.

I enjoyed Trek during its "geek era" (is it over? I must have missed that announcement...), and I'm also well aware of the changes that are afoot with the current production.

However, I don't feel the urge to bug out at every litle tidbit and quote, and draw conclusions as to the quality of the upcoming movie. It seems that there is a vocal contingent of alarmists who have greater deductive powers than myself. They "know" that the new film is a dumbed down action flick with no substance or connection to "their" Trek. They "know" it's going to suck.,

Me? I don't know these things. Call me what you will, but I'll see the movie before making such statements with any confidence. Until then, I prefer an optimistic outlook over months of teeth-gnashing. It's easier on the dental work.
