Well there is a precedent for this kind of re-use of hull form, I don't know if you remember the Soyuz-class that appeared in TNG, that class was just a Miranda-class variant: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Soyuz_class

It's a date. The ship is superfluous.

The fun in ship design isn't what Cryptic is going to hand us, but in what we can do to customize the existing ship classes. That said, this "new" class is bullcrap. It's really just a pimped sovereign. I bet you could make a sovereign look just like that with the in-game ship creation tools. Cryptic totally wasted an opportunity to give us something actually new. I am disappointed. The tech specs are far too pimped. Everything else is gonna suck in comparison. Even a Defiant class will suck in comparison in a fight. That ain't right. If they were planning on making a God-class ship, they could've made it something original. The new ship is to the Sovereign class as the All Good Things Enterprise-D is to the Galaxy Class. It's the same ship, just with weird add-ons.

I'm going to throw in my two cents in here, just because I can. I am really excited about the movie coming out in May. I mean wow, this is actually happening. A new movie that is going to reignite the love of Trek that we have all been touched by.

I am also excited about this game. I mean wow again, a game where we can actually move around in and do the things we, as trek fans, have always dreamed about doing.

However, this ship design...I just don't like it--and that's my opinion.

This isn't about cannon or technobable or whatever the hell u want to call it. The design is just wrong. It's as wrong as the Enterprise NX-01 was wrong. Not that I didn't like the design of the NX; it just wasn't the right design for that time period in human history.

If we truly are embarking on something new; and we are going to represent that newness with a flag ship, then why not start from scratch and make a new design? Perpetual did, and as much as I thought that ship was too stubby looking, I still appreciated it's newness to the Trek universe.

Even the smaller class vessels that they have created, the ones with portions of the hull that are missing...that's new. That's the line of thought they should be following.

Please don't misunderstand me either, I love the Sovereign Class vessel. I love all the designs of the trek universe because they bring something unique to our imaginations.

But this? This isn't unique; considering we are embarking on a new 'trek' journey.

everyone on here is acting like this is the only ship in the game. if you've actually been following the game other than just the few articles on this site you would know that the game features alot of ships, ranging from small runabout like scouts to large dreadnoughts.

the game stresses that you customize the ships heavily from the nacelle struts to the nacelles themselves, the saucers, the engineering sections, ship colors, etc. with the idea that you will create the kind of vessel that speaks best to you.

but if they showed that here the cannonites would cry because its to different.

aside from that, this is a videogame and as such it has to speak to a particular market segment. a segment which probably really like the "E" as i do, and probably wouldnt have that much of an interest in the game if they left out the ability to play as a ship like that.

and lastly if you want a realistic view of this then just look at today's prototypes. this is an NX-___ vessel or what would today be a "mule". mules are just existing shells to test out new technology . just look at GM's Volt, it gets tested in a cavalier, not exactly that sexy volt youve been seeing online huh. even when the big three drove a "volt" to DC they drove the mule since there isnt actually a volt shel with the volt technology in it yet.

please do some research before coming on here and whining about every little thing like you're a star trek expert. I really get tired of always reading 30 somethings crying like 4 year olds because the star trek gods have forsaken them.

I'm no fan boy... I'm no die hard.... I enjoy trek for the stories, the characters and the relationships. It's all fine and dandy to refit a Sovereign Class to keep it up to date like was done with NCC-1701,Constitution, Miranda class so and so forth BUT they didn't call them a new class of ship... they were still a part of their original classes... so to call NX-91001 an entirely new class is bull... Cryptic... just make NX-91001 part of a story/experimental dead end and come up with something more original, barring that just say the Federation's best ship is a 40 year old refit and come up with a good story around why that is
