I doubt it, given that changes to the timeline apparently provide obstacles to his developing maturity and even his entry to the Academy.

And bear in mind that “stack of books with legs” is Mitchell’s view of Jim Kirk, but his is not the only opinion.

This is the Jim Kirk of the same era in which he cheats on a command test, and the same person whom Carol Marcus describes as “never a boyscout.”

In comparison to himself, Mitchell may have found JTK to be somewhat square, hence his characterization. Some of his behavior (cheating) as well as the opinion of another who knew him at roughly the same time, seems to indicate that he was far more complicated.

I like the idea that (as I glean form the traliors) that kirk does not seem to have a direction with life, however seeing the enterprise being built really gives him something to strive for. One day, I want to be captain of that ship right there.

The one thing I’m wondering is… I know that there is going to be scenes at the acadamy… but is kirk going to be shown as the bookish guy he was described to be in that part of his life.

64 -Thanks, Closettrekker. You know, I think I read this and forgot about it. And I have to confess that sometimes I give the articles perhaps too perfunctory a reading, as I’m overloaded with reading at my job and my doctoral studies. I’ll pay closer attention next time.

That’s definitely a more humble view from Roberto Orci than I gleaned from from some other folks while skimming the article that leads this thread and some posters’ comments generated by it.

I wouldn’t expect you to hunt through the comments sections. I presume that you’re a busy man, too. Thanks for finding this comment from Mr. Orci for me. It sheds some light.

I hope this Trek will be good, successful, and foster sequels. But I guess it’s best to take it one movie at a time. Mr. Orci is definitely right about that.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto very much look like the movie stars they ought to be. In fact, I detect a young Sean Connery in Pine’s visage. One hopes that he will age as well as Connery.

This bodes well for Trek.

Roberto Orci: “Our goal is always to not be arrogant enough to think that you’re going to get more than one movie. Make one good movie and if that movie’s good, then hopefully you’ll get another one. Don’t save anything for later. Don’t plan on the sequel. That’s a mistake. And that’s how we approach it. Just make one good movie and god willing, we get to do another one.”

I am not going to search through the comments sections, for obvious reasons, but I did take the time to find you that article.

I just searched the word “arrogant”. For some reason, the use of that word by Bob stuck in my mind. It didn’t take long to find.
