I have chosen to treat this film as separate from the Star Trek I love, separte timeline and universe, this way I can accept the changes JJ Abrams has made my favourite show.

Now I will admit that the trailer is looking great and that this will hopefully revive Trek. I just hope that JJ Abrams has not dumbed Trek down like Hollywood does with all mainstream films.

I don’t hold JJ Abrams in the same light as most others. Lost is a pointless show which lost me after 10 episodes and Fringe is an X Files wannabe. Some people seem to think this film will be great just because Rick Berman is not involved and because everyone is love with JJ Abrams. Am i the only one who thinks JJ Abrams is overrated?

To me the proof is in the pudding. I will hope to love this film but I am annoyed that this wont feel like the Trek I loved. I am all for updating a few things to fit with times but I like it to feel the same still. This does not feel like the Trek I grew up with.

I hope I am wrong and that it represents Roddenberry’s ideals. I dont think it will be the best Trek film but I think it will be better than Nemesis.

This is an updated 2009 production. If you don’t like that curl up in your bed with Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show and curse todays generation for being different than your own.
But remember one thing: the “burden” of youth. Wether it be 1966, 2009 or the 2250s being young and gaining experience isn’t easy. Even the best of the best in real life have real life problems. Let Kirk struggle and discover his own best destiny and learn from his mistakes. Can’t we all learn from our mistakes? And personal growth is rewarding both in real life and on screen. Let Kirk be imperfect, because this ain’t Leave it to Beaver anymore gosh golly gee-whiz.<<

Yeah, it’s a generational thing. And this generation sucks when it comes to Star Trek. It’s OK, it’s better in some other things (not too many).
