by Rosario T. Calabria , Filed under: Sci-Fi , trackback

This week the buzz is about Christian Bale’s Terminator reshoots tirade – we have all the latest on the fallout, plus more Terminator news and images. We also have a big update with lots of video and images on Watchmen, Jeff Bridges being cloned for Tron 2.0,  Iron Man 2 casting news, the latest on the future of Superman and Batman, and much more. In TV news we have a breakdown of all the genre pilots in the works, updates on Dollhouse and Caprica and tons of previews.

MOVIE NEWS

NYCC 09: McG Talks Bale, Arnold and More
McG was at the New York Comic Con and presented a "Terminator Salvation" reel and offered up some hints and news.  The reel contained footage mostly from the roadshow reported on a few weeks back, but it did show a bit more footage with Michael Ironside’s character.  Ironside plays the actual leader of the resistance (via io9):

In the reel, [John Connor] is yelling at Ironside to stop the big attack that the resistance is planning. Plus, he tells him all about how Skynet is gather up humans for "R and D" and learning how to replicate human tissue. Oh yeah, and we’re all doomed and all that jazz. What I really love about all of these edited clips are the fact that still no one believes the Connors, even though you think they would (after all the things they’ve been through). Then again, who’s going to listen to some foot soldier with an (allegedly) lunatic mom?

io9 also reports that McG dropped "major Arnold hints" and here’s what the director had to say about the now infamous Christian Bale tirade:

Christian’s taking responsibility for the way he’s acted, and it’s a matter of fact that he and Shane are buddies.

We finished the movie together, we did additional photography about a month ago. And it was one of those moments, I think I can speak on all of our behalfs that we’ve all gotten fired up, and if anybody would take that moment and take it out of context it would seem very, very strange. And that’s what happens in an internet universe, and it’s really not as big of a deal as you want. And I wanted that level of passion to show up in the John Connor character. It’s a war movie – I didn’t want it to be lightweight. Christian said it himself he was sort of half Christian and half Connor, it just happened, it hasn’t affected us in the slightest… From my experience trying to out huff and puff somebody who is wound up is not conducive to getting to a better place. So we let it run obviously let it run its course and you only get to hear the explosive parts, but that remix is pretty hot.

Watch a video clip from the event at panel at this link.

Christian Bale’s Terminator Salvation On-set Tirade [NSFW] + Apology
In other Terminator news, Christian Bale called into Los Angeles radio station KROQ’s "Kevin and Bean Morning Show" to apologize for his now infamous on-set tirade.  You can listen to the entire audio at TMZ, but here’s the pertinent highlight from the clip:

"Listen, I know I have a potty mouth; everybody knows that now. … The thing that I really want to stress is I have no confusion whatsoever. I was out of order beyond belief. I was way out of order. I acted like a punk. I regret that. There is nobody that has heard that tape that is hit harder by it than me. I make no excuses for it. It is inexcusable. I hope that that is absolutely clear."

You can listen to the audio of Bale flipping out on the set at TMZ [NSFW].  And here are a few of the parody’s that have sprung up on the net since the incident:

Jeff Bridges Digitally Cloned for Tron 2.0 + Trailer to Premiere at SDCC
Jeff Bridges has been sent up to Canada to be digitized for his role in "Tron 2.0". According to io9, a plaster case has been created of Bridges:

They will then take that 3D model and make him younger and then slap it on a body double in post.
As this is only one cog in the machine, I can’t give a whole lot of detail. Canada scans actors and props to be used for various projects. These are very high resolution scans that pick up every wrinkle, face lift and scar on the actors body.

Meanwhile, Comic Book Resources reports that director Joseph Kosinksi will return to the San Diego Comic Con this year to premiere the film’s first official trailer:

"This year, he’s going to have a trailer, not of the entire film, but just what he’s been shooting. He started shooting in April, and given his pedigree and what I know about the film and what I know about Joe—the film will be amazing. So he’ll show that trailer there," publisher Barry Levine revealed during the New York Comic Con panel for Radical Studios.

Robert Downey Jr.: Mickey Rourke Will Not Be Playing Crimson Dynamo
While on the set of his upcoming film "Sherlock Holmes", MTV asked Robert Downey Jr. about Mickey Rourke playing The Crimson Dynamo in "Iron Man 2", to which Downey Jr. said: "That’s actually incorrect."  When MTV followed up and asked if he’d instead play Whiplash, Downey Jr. said that he was "unable to confirm or deny that report," adding that "maybe it’s some semblance of both." You can watch the exchange below.

Martin Campbell in Negotiations to Direct Green Lantern + Writer Talks
Martin Campbell ("Casino Royale") is currently in negotiations to direct WB’s live-action adaptation of the DC Comics property, "Green Lantern". According to Variety’s report, "Green Hornet" and "Johnah Hex" have been given priority at the studio in the wake of other stalled DC titles including new films based on DC’s Superman and Justice League properties.  The script was written by Greg Berlanti of the ABC drama "Eli Stone" along with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.  Speaking of the writing, co-writer Michael Green told IGN that Warner Bros. encouraged them to use as many references to the DC Universe as they saw relevant:

’Any references you want to make to expand the DC world, we would enjoy,’ which is one of the better notes you can get. … It’s like, ‘Oh, more candy? Please!’ They opened up the DC toy box on that, so it was fun. It’s definitely tied to the familiar DC universe. It’s very much something to honor the people who love Green Lantern the way me and the other writers read it, faithfully and honoring everything that it is without any violations of the substance."

Warner Bros. Hoping for Long Future With Batman and Superman
During Time Warner’s earnings call last week, CEO Jeff Bewkes said that the studio hopes to build long running franchises out of Batman and Superman, comparing the two properties to "Harry Potter":

“We look at Harry Potter. It’s fantastic to have franchises that last that long. We want to do that with Batman and Superman and perhaps Sherlock Holmes. The sequels are as good, with new characters added, as were the originals. That wasn’t the case in the years ago. Warners has more tentpoles as an on-going strategy taht very much lifts its distribution and performance. We think that’s going to hold up our slate in the 2009 – 2010 period. We’ve got four more big tentpoles coming this year.”

Watchmen Apple Store Events + Snyder Shoots Down Sequel Rumors + NYCC 09 Gibbons Q&A
Warner Bros. has announced that they will be holding "Watchmen" events at Apple stores in New York and California.  Here are the details:

Apple Store SoHo (NY) - Friday, February 6th at 7:00pm: Dave Gibbons will discuss, demonstrate illustrations and answer questions about Watchmen.
Apple Store San Francisco (CA) - Tuesday, February 17 at 7:00pm: Dave Gibbons will discuss, demonstrate illustrations and answer questions about Watchmen.
Apple Store Santa Monica (CA) - Tuesday, February 17 at 7:00pm: Zack Snyder and visual effects supervisor John "DJ" Des Jardin will discuss the creation of the CG character Dr. Manhattan in the new film.

In other "Watchmen" news, director Zack Snyder acknowledged in an interview with the New York Times that while Warner Bros. could make a sequel to the film he "wouldn’t have anything to do with it" and he doesn’t expect any of the actors to be involved either.  That feeling was also expressed by artist Dave Gibbons during a Q&A session at the NYCC:

If they want to make a prequel or sequel, there is nothing I can do to stop them from doing it. One occasion DC was very tempted to do a spin-off or sequel, but wiser heads prevailed. If you add anything to Watchmen, you’re not adding to it you’re diluting it. It’s not like a Batman movie, where you can add to it. I don’t think you’d see me on stage at a Comic Con talking about a sequel or a prequel and I don’t think you’d see Zack Snyder either. [The] general consensus, is leave well enough alone.

For more on that NYCC Q&A, and the panel in general (which showcased 18 minutes from the film), head on over to io9 and /Film for the two sites’ respective reports.

Earlier Return for The CW’s Reaper
The CW has announced that the second season of the supernatural-themed drama "Reaper" will premiere on March 3rd, two weeks earlier than originally announced.  The network still plans to air all 13 ordered episodes straight through with no repeats.  While the earlier premiere is nice, the fact remains that the show will still be going head-to-head against Fox’s "American Idol"

Summer Glau and Producer Josh Friedman Talk ‘Sarah Connor Chronicles’
Actress Summer Glau (Cameron) and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" producer Josh Friedman answered questions on a conference call about the return of the Fox drama (Friday, February 13th at 8pm).  Here are some excerpts from the call (via i09):

On the show’s move to Friday night’s, and the show’s future:

"We were getting our asses kicked on Monday nights," Friedman says. Friday nights have different expectations, ratings-wise, plus it gives Fox an opportunity to promote Terminator and Dollhouse together, creating a science-fiction block that might appeal to the same audience.

Friedman remains optimistic about the show getting a third season, but also addressed the possibility that it might not happen. He says he wrote the season finale "the way I was planning on writing the finale for a long time… You owe the audience a logical conclusion to the things we have been building towards." It’s true that fans get upset when a show has an open-ended conclusion and doesn’t come back, but "fans also get upset if we write a crappy finale. If I tried to sum up every single thing in 43 minutes, it would be a disaster. It would end up like a clip show."

On whether or not Glau believes her character, Cameron, loves John Connor:

"Cameron’s deep love for John is because he is her whole reason for existing… I think that is love, and I think she would do anything for him, and in her reality, I think that’s what love is for her." She added that she’s not sure where Friedman is going with the character, but she always plays it as if she does feel something for John.

For SCI FI Wire’s coverage of the conference call, click here and here.  SCI FI Wire also put up an interview with Garret Dillahunt (Cromartie and now computer program "John Henry").  Read it here. Rounding out this week’s "Terminator: TSCC" coverage, check out this new Grindhouse-like promo from Fox, advertising the upcoming Friday night Terminator/Dollhouse lineup:

More from Joss Whedon on Dollhouse
"Dollhouse"
creator/writer Joss Whedon recently took part in a conference call about the upcoming premiere of his new series (February 13th at 9pm after "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") here are some highlights, courtesy SCI FI Wire.

Talking about what types of topics "Dollhouse" addresses that his other shows have not:

Well, the constant topic of identity is one. There are a couple of things that were originally on the slate that didn’t quite fit the venue and had to stand back. We had an episode about Rwandan boy soldiers that was really about how we imprint people now, how we literally brainwash people, and contrasting that with the Dollhouse. There was an episode that was really about perversion. It was about sexual shame and people’s inability to deal with real people that was, I thought, ultimately very heartfelt and very strange and very beautiful, but again, did not make the cut for the first 13. So those were some that would be coming up.

We’ve heard plenty about the main Doll of the Dollhouse (Elisha Dushku’s character Echo), but what of the others?:

You know, obviously we start out focusing on Echo, but the friends that she makes, in particular Sierra [Diche Lachman], all have their own stories, their own reasons for being there and their own sort of reaction to things. As her friendship forms more, we get to spend more time with the other dolls. We get a real taste of how easy they have it and how hard they do, how controlled their lives are and how out of control they can get because they have no skills for dealing with the world. So I can’t really go into specifics, but we pretty much get to start putting everybody through the wringer about halfway through. It starts to get complicated for all of them.

Speaking of Lachman, SCI FI Wire has put up an interview with the actress, taken during the TCA winter press tour last month that you can check out here.  SCI FI Wire also put up an interview with co-star Tahmoh Penikett that you can check out here.

Jane Espenson Talks Caprica
Writer Jane Espenson, who was recently announced as the showrunner for the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel series "Caprica" (hitting DVD as a movie on April 21st, followed by its TV series premiere in 2010), talked about the series in an interview with io9.  Here are some excerpts.

On expanding on the history of the Cylons:

Caprica is going to shed light on the Cylons, of course, but also on the history and culture and beliefs and prejudices and lives of the human colonists. This is great rich material. All that, plus strong characters and at least ten flavors of conflict — it’s the coolest thing ever.

On her thoughts about Ron Moore and SCI FI’s desire to attract more female viewers to the network:

It has never occurred to me that I would write different types of stories to attract women viewers. Maybe there is some truth to the idea that war stories traditionally held less appeal for women since it wasn’t a real-life arena in which women were well-represented, but even that has to be changing, don’t you think? Isn’t a good story pretty universal? At any rate, the stories on Caprica are simply going to kick ass and I certainly expect some of that ass to be female.

Preview of 2009 Pilot Season
James Hibberd of THR, has put up a handy feature about the upcoming fall TV pilots. Here’s a round-up of what he has to say about the sci-fi/genre pilots.

NBC

"Day One "
From the people who brought you “Heroes” (Jesse Alexander)
Logline: In the aftermath of a "global event" that devastates the world’s infrastructures, a small band of survivors strive to rebuild society and unravel the mysteries of why the event took place
How it’s different: Can "Jericho" protesters just pretend this is "Jericho" and stop buying ads lobbying CBS to bring back the show?

FOX

Untitled Reincarnation Project (formerly titled "Reincarnationist")
From the people who brought you “Friday Night Lights” (David Hudgins)
Logline: Past-life investigators use reincarnation to solve mysteries
How it’s different: They’re not cops, they work outside the law

"Virtuality"
From the people who brought you “Battlestar Galactica” (Ron Moore)
Logline: Sci-fi drama set in two different worlds, outer space and a seemingly limitless virtual reality
How it’s different: Sound like “Law & Order” to you? Unfortunately odds are against this one going to series with the pilot being reworked

"Human Target"
From a new writer (Jon Steinberg) and the people who brought you “Chuck” (McG)
Logline: Based on the DC Comics title, Christopher Chance is a mysterious security-for-hire who assumes the identities of people in life-threatening danger, becoming the "human target" on behalf of his clients
How it’s different: If the comic book were any good, wouldn’t it be three movies by now? And will it be better than ABC’s 1992 version that starred Rick Springfield?

ABC

"Eastwick"
From the people that brought you "Jack & Bobby" (Maggie Friedman)
Logline: Based on John Updike’s "The Witches of Eastwick," three modern-day women discover they have magical powers
How it’s different: Magical realism on ABC is hardly new, but "Eastwick" could be interesting

"Flash Forward"
From the people who brought you “Threshold” (Daivd Goyer, Brannon Braga)
Logline: Everyone in the world blacks out for two minutes and has a vision of their future. Chaos ensues
How it’s different: Firmly different

"V"
From the people that brought you "The 4400" (Scott Peters)
Logline: Based on the 1983 miniseries, "V" chronicles human resistance fighters battling aliens.
How it’s different: Both the copy machine and apocalypse icon for this one, but still: Who doesn’t like an alien invasion? It’s after they invade that the storytelling gets tricky

Ahh, Christian Bale. How very un-Batman like of you.

2. Devon Richards - February 7, 2009

Not getting the audio for any of the videos here in Canada.

3. Another Q - February 7, 2009

Holy crap, that’s a lot to take in! Thank you guys for keeping
us all up to date on this stuff.

4. Thomas - February 7, 2009

I actually heard the Christian Bale radio segment live. It was during the Kevin and Bean show’s hourly entertainment news segment. When their entertainment reporter Ralph first told them that Bale was on the phone, they thought he was putting them on. They have never had anyone come on their show and do that before. It was really kind of bizarre. Ironically, earlier in the show, they did a telephone interview with Liam Neeson, which pleased Batman fanatic Ralph to no end.

5. JoBlo - February 7, 2009

Wow, there’s a lot of crap up there.

6. JoBlo - February 7, 2009

By that I mean, TRASH!

7. Andy Patterson - February 7, 2009

Don’t know what franchise the ACME Ray Gun Pen is from but if they can make that where is my fully functional Gary Seven servo pen? Complete with writing tip and flashlight in the other end. Somebody get going on that. I still think there’s a collector’s market for that.

As far as Thor rolling a joint….okay. I just hope they make a good movie.

And I really hope Iron Man 2 is something as good or better than the first. Mickey Rourke…..sounds cool. Looking forward to that.

Interesting article about Fincher but I think it was the right call not to hire him for Spider-Man. Although, that could have been interesting.

Pity DC can’t get Justice League going. Why not get Andrea Romano on that? She does a bang up job casting and directing voices on the animated version.

8. Enterprise - February 8, 2009

Uh, what year is that list from? 2003?

10. Tim Lade - February 8, 2009

The Christian Bale bit is not news. It is nothing but gossip and the continued coverage it demonstrates the sad joy the society gets from watching an embarrassing moment that should have remained private. I would challenge all of you to remember I time you blew up like that. If I had a nickel for every time I lost my temper at my family or my friends in the last 28 years of life I would probably be able to pay off my student loans. TrekMovie should focus not on the poor choice of one individual and glamorize it but instead should stick to relevant facts.

11. Anthony Pascale - February 8, 2009

Lade, lighten up
spockboy, that video is actually in the article

12. CMX54 - February 8, 2009

JoBlo is right. Nothing but crap in that lengthy list.

Thank goodness for classic sci-fi movies and shows on DVD.

As for Bale, he’s no professional. Inexcusable behavior.

13. Tim Lade - February 8, 2009

Ok.

14. King Of All Blacks - February 8, 2009

I love CHUCK!

Heroes is just awful now.

15. King Of All Blacks - February 8, 2009

I love the Bale-Out!

“what don’t you f***ing understand!?”

“He. Does. Not. Get. It!”

“I’ll kick your f***ing ass!”

“I see you walking in the background da da da!”

“We are so done professionally.”

LOVES IT!!!

16. Cobalt Ben - February 8, 2009

I’ve been waiting for that Green Lantern movie all my life! Hopefully it’s about to get made!

(And by the way, in the Green Lantern article, you accidentally said Green Hornet one time.)

17. King Of All Blacks - February 8, 2009

Christian Bale also “allegedly” layed into his mom & sister around the time that The Dark Knight was released! they tried to extort money outta him or something.

either way, LOVES IT!!!

18. dyaleleon - February 8, 2009

2) None of the vids seem to working for me :(

19. thorsten - February 8, 2009

20. I am not Herbert - February 8, 2009

Duude!! Thor rolls the righteous thunder spliff!!!

Ride that giant chicken, Asgardian!!!

21. Dom - February 8, 2009

The Christian Bale thing is ridiculous! TV and movie sets get stressful. That’s a simple fact of life . . . and blow-ups happen! That’s why I prefer being in an edit suite!

Still can’t even begin to get excited about Dollhouse. I think Whedon’s had his time and had his fifteen minutes. He did some amazing work that shook up genre TV, but things have moved on now and I’m not sure he has anything more to offer.

S. Darko was originally announced as a straight-to-DVD film, so it’s no surprise to me that that’s the way it’ll go now. Frankly, if it wasn’t for Richard Kelly’s contacts getting him Panavision lenses and the like, Donnie Darko would probably have gone straight-to-DVD. As it happens, most of us saw it on DVD first time anyway. And I thought the Director’s Cut was actually considerably weaker than the original cut! That Kelly isn’t involved with the sequel doesn’t bother me: I think he’s a bit overrated!

I hope The Sarah Connor Chronicles survives. I’ve only seen the 9-ep first season, but I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to buy season two!

Jennifer’s Body looks fun. Megan Fox: yum!

Knight Rider never tried to rise above big dumb fun, so I can’t help but enjoy what I’ve seen of it!

Thanks for another fun round-up

22. Hat Rick - February 8, 2009

Ahhhhhh! Information Overload! Does Not Compute!

Seriously, guys. This news article has enough information for an entire website. Kudos all around for a great job.

A question about Coraline: Is it ever explained in the book why both the bad guys and the victims have buttons for eyes? I know that it’s because the victims have had their souls taken and locked away while being drained of life energy, but why do the *bad guys* have buttons for eyes? And, for that matter, why buttons and not something else?

I know it’s a from a child’s book, but there might be some in-universe rationalization for it.

23. Hat Rick - February 8, 2009

Also, would someone put a spoiler alert in my 22? I forgot to do that for my discussion of Coraline, since it reveals an important plot point. Thanks.

24. ProperTrekkieUK - February 8, 2009

The BBC aired the Bale flip without bleeping anything out, they got in a lot of trouble!! Woops!!

I am looking foward to Green Lantern, lots of scope for a good film there! I can’t help but think that Caprica will end up just being Battlestar 90210, thus shockingly poor!

25. Loran Alan Davis - February 8, 2009

On a broader sci-fi note: CNN just announced that actor James Whitmore has died. He played in many genres, but to sci-fi fans he was best-known for his roles in “Them!”, “Twilight Zone”, “Planet of the Apes (1968)”, and some other titles that slip my mind right now. He was 87. I just saw him in an episode of NCIS just a few weeks ago. To many younger fans, he is best know for the Miracle-Grow commercials he did. Great actor. Sad to see another gone.

26. sean - February 8, 2009

“The “Donnie Darko” spinoff “S. Darko” will not be hitting theaters. Instead, the film will be released by MGM straight-to-DVD on April 28th. ”

Gee, there’s a surprise! Haha. What a horrible idea.

“Still can’t even begin to get excited about Dollhouse. I think Whedon’s had his time and had his fifteen minutes. He did some amazing work that shook up genre TV, but things have moved on now and I’m not sure he has anything more to offer.”

Aww Dom, I have to disagree! Buffy & Angel were great, and Firefly was cut down far, far too early. I’ve seen nothing from Whedon that indicates he’s visited the well one too many times.

28. sean - February 8, 2009

Heroes has been bad since the end of Season 1, but I actually thought Monday’s episode was the best I’ve seen in a long, long time.

29. Kelvington - February 8, 2009

That was the longest bit of news I’ve EVER read! Well complied! The only story missing was that “K-9″ will be in probably six of the 12 episodes of “The Sara Jane Adventures” this year. Loved the watchman mask video.

30. The Bear - February 8, 2009

While Bale apologized to his fans, most importantly he should apologize to the man he launched his immature tirade on. He should have cooled off and then talked like a mature adult and not like some two bit street punk, and worked out their differences.

Great way to lose respect Bale. You lost mine.

31. sean - February 8, 2009

#30

Good actors are passionate about their work, and a side effect of that intensity is that it will occasionally manifest in an emotional outburst. The man has apologized, and anything else is between him and the other actor. What kind of absurd standard are we going to hold this man to?

32. Mr. AtoZ - February 8, 2009

I couldn’t care less about “Dollhouse”

33. Brett Campbell - February 8, 2009

Thank you for the Colbert Report clip. That was hilarious! I don’t have TV right now, and I miss his show more than anything. That, and Jeopardy. Oh, and of course, Star Trek. Duh.

34. Kirk's Girdle - February 8, 2009

Michael Ironside is awesome. Bale better not try any of that yelling shit on him.

35. Plum - February 8, 2009

Man, I wouldn’t yell at Mike Ironside. That guy will blow your head off!

Let’s digitally scan Bill Shatner, put him on a hard drive, then make him younger. Producers of the future can then have the young, original James T. Kirk at their fingertips for any future projects.

Warner Bros.- “We look at Harry Potter. It’s fantastic to have franchises that last that long. We want to do that with Batman and Superman and perhaps Sherlock Holmes.”

No love for the Wonder. I hate you Warner Bros. Don’t believe me? Name me one female character in the Dark Knight that was actually any good.

Rosario,

Fabulous job on the list this week.

I have to say that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is really growing on me. I am glad to see that it’s getting a shot at a wider audience.

The Keene Act and You was also a very entertaining bit of viral marketing. Can’t wait to see how Star Trek is marketed as we get closer to release date.

Patrick Stewart is sitting directly behind Brad Pitt at the Baftas….Picard vs. Tyler Durden – who would win?

40. Thomas - February 8, 2009

39. Tony Whitehead,
Maybe a Starfleet Academy recruitment video? That would be pretty neat.

41. screaming satellite - February 8, 2009

More star trek at the baftas – Wossy just introduced McKellan and Stewart to present best director award..’to present this award here are 2 of the greatest Shakespearean actors this country has ever produced…bearing that in mind may I introduce that wizard and that bloke from star trek – Ian McKellan & Patrick stewart!’

Those retro Watchmen vids are cool, next to Star Trek Watchmen is what Im looking forward to for this year, and less than a month away I believe. As for the whole Bale thing, it sounds like the guy that pissed him off messed up before, and even just doing community theater Ive heard people get chewed out for that kinda mess up, and this is a big pic they’re doing, not to mention with people with big ego’s. Shouldnt be such a big deal, but what ever, the movie should still be cool.

43. MORN SPEAKS - February 8, 2009

I have a feeling that once Caprica has come and gone, Sci-Fi will make another Battlestar spin-off of the first Cylon War.

That would be totally awesome!

44. Becky - February 8, 2009

I wish people would just lay off Christian Bale. He screwed up once and now everyone’s out to get him.

45. screaming satellite - February 8, 2009

44 – its the way of the world im afraid :(

46. D - February 8, 2009

Actually, I think Christian Bale had every right to blow up. The Cinematographer whom he is yelling at was joking and carrying on after “Quiet on the Set” was called and Bale was filming what was supposed to be a very dramatic scene. For those that haven’t been on a set, after quiet is called, it doesn’t matter if you’ve just seen the funniest thing in the world…you stifle it, period. If the actor screws up the take, it’s one thing, but when someone off the camera does it, it can totally disrupt the actor’s concentration.

47. Greg2600 - February 8, 2009

Did I see the name Wheelie? Please say no.

48. Hat Rick - February 8, 2009

Does the premise of Dollhouse remind anyone of “I, Mudd”? Even a little?

49. Joegianco - February 8, 2009

Hate to disappoint fellow Trek fans but Trek will be #2 this year. 2009 is the year of Ghostbusters.

50. Andy Patterson - February 8, 2009

Not if it’s like the second one. And Elmer Bernstein’s now with us anymore so we won’t have his score. I have reservations about that claim for a number of reasons.

51. Enterprise - February 9, 2009

The Bale thing is just free publicity for a movie that looks pretty crappy.

52. Even more Life Like - February 9, 2009

Light it up Thor!

53. franbro - February 9, 2009

#46, How do you know that the DP WAS ‘joking and carrying on…”? By all accounts, he was moving out of camera range and checking his lights. While he should’ve just settled down during the takes, it’s far from the same thing.

and even if Whedon never has another great show, he had far more than just “15 minutes” of fame… Roseanne, Toy Story, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along…. That’s a more impressive track record than some achieve their whole careers…

54. Green-Blooded-Bastard - February 9, 2009

Is it me, or does that T-600 look like a mermaid?

55. Riker 001 - February 9, 2009

Bale…hillarious but enough…it’s funny sure but he’s a good actor so lets just move on shall we?

LOVE THOR! THOR RULES!!

Rourke in I2…hmm…I can see that…as long as he gives a good performance and doesnt turn into a character of his personal self he would be good in it…

THOR RULES!!!!!

56. Dr. Image - February 10, 2009

So Joss gets a Friday night death slot right out of the gate. Disgusting.

57. Katie G. - February 10, 2009

Well. Mr. Bale.

“…I was out of order beyond belief. I was way out of order. I acted like a punk. I regret that… I make no excuses for it. It is inexcusable.”

Hope he means that. We’re all fallible but wow. That was a doozie. Guess he didn’t think that the cameras/recording equipment were getting it all for posterity! Then again when you’re that angry, it’s difficult to think straight.

Hope that’s the last of it. You don’t want to damage your rep or no one will want to work with you. Then again if you pay someone enough, I guess they’ll put up with almost anything.

Moving on…
