Incidentally, it is canonical that Star Trek is non-believing in the Christian Bible.

McCoy says: “According to myth, the Earth was created in 6 days. Now, watch out. Here comes Genesis. We’ll do it for you in 6 minutes.”

McCoy ought to have said, “according to the heretical doubts of secularists, at whom I take extreme and grievous offense.”

We saw the same thing on the poster for ST:TMP… Kirk, Spock, and… Ilia! Even further out from the triad and not even a known regular character. It’s just to raise a little more interest with an exotic female face.

For dramtic reasons, it simply won’t work. Spock is the Logical Response,
McCoy the Emotional Response and Kirk finds the balance between the two to solve the problem.

It is the dramatic seed from which Trek grew.

I hope the poster is just meant to grab the attentions horny teens and has very little to do with actual plot structure..

Star Trek, especially TOS, has moments both ways when it comes to the existence of a single sovreign God (don’t think so–check out “Who Mourns For Adnoais?”). ST requires no religious background to be enjoyed, nor does having one prevent a person from being a serious Trekkie.

Star Trek’s creators went out of their way not to take a specific side nor to offend its viewers by trumpeting one outlook at the expense of another. I suggest everyone on this site who truly believes in the IDIC principle would do well to be more tolerant of other views.

As to the long-known stance taken by Gene Roddenberry on Christianity, I am aware of it. I am also conviced that he now knows he was wrong. And I am sure Gene Coon is available to explain it to him should he still be confused.

Let’s let the personal attacks disappear with the election ads and get back to jouyously anticipating ST09–I know I sure am.

Well, when you bait them with news items posted containing a comment that is inflammatory to a whole section of readers, you can expect some kind of response. At least none threatened jihad or strapped a bomb to a woman and sent them among you. I think the response was measured and calm from the believers compared to the slurs and insults from the haters.

So, when the Star Trek news invokes the discussion as it did this time, be not surprised when it is commented on, either way.
