72. Lt. Bailey -- you write, "While I have not even seen most to the Best Pic film niminated the past decade. . . "

Then you go on to dismiss this year's crop of awards. Maybe, I dunno, you could actually *see* the films before you judge them? I'm just sayin'.

I've searched around the net. It is amazing how many sites DO NOT list Star Trek anywhere in their list of big movies for 2009.

It would seem that even with the Paramount promo department in full swing there is still a vast majority of people who WILL NOT change their views on Star Trek.

For whatever reason, and I expect it's the same thinking that saw Patrick Stewart never winning an Emmy for STNG, the prejudice looks set to continue,

PS. I am also amazed there was no ST09 flash at the end of the Oscars. How could Paramount allow this?

I was sad, not seeing Majel Roddenberry, considering her birthday would have been today. -sigh- Well, you can't always get what you want.

Cool. BTW, the Oscars Orchestra did play the original Star Trek series theme when Jessica Biel walk onto the stage and talked about the Sci-Tech Awards.

BTW--Majel, I can see the "movie only" case for ... but I've never gotten over De Kelley being slighted in 2000. ALL THOSE YEARS of playing big-screen Western bad guys (and others)? He was the best--way before Bones was even a twinkle in Gene's eye. They ignored Jimmy Doohan too, and then slipped him in the next year...!! The big-screen Treks (TOS and TNG) should be enough for either cast to be included on the Academy reel...

The thing to remember about the Awards is that the only voters are the members of the Academy, not the general public who buy tickets for films. So they think that they are the only people who know what a "good" film is. While I have not even seen most to the Best Pic film niminated the past decade, the films I do see never are or few or nominated. Prior to the 1990's the Oscars meant something but now it is all about a "I love me show" After all, do they really need to thank everybody? Most of the general public could care less about some of the catagories they have. The best thing for me was when WALL E won, the rest was unimportant as you already knew who was going home with Oscar, Kate Winslet for a film she got naked in, Sean Penn because he is Sean Penn doing the Hollywood thing. Slumdog because they like art films, Heith Ledger got the sympahty vote, he was good in the role but I prefer Jack Nicohlson far better. All in all, the winners deserve what they eraned through hard work and talent, not because we liked a film or did not like it.
