I liked the idea that some time after the events in Nemesis, Picard and Spock meet at the "Welcome to the Federation" party for the Romulans. There, the two would see each other for the first time in years and they would go off to an anteroom to catch up. Picard would describe the events of Kirk's sacrificial death (GEN) to the Vulcan and say how he wished he had gotten to know the legend better. Spock, having great respect for Picard, offers up a mind meld, which begins the recount of the beginiing of his and Kirk's longstanding relationship. As the story ends, the meld is broken and we see the two 24th century legends nod knowingly, share the Vulcan salute, and part company as the music swells and the credits roll.
