Hard to believe that the Shuttle program has been going on for almost as long as Star Trek movies.

In the big cities you really don’t see it, but go a little further out and you’ll most likely start seeing it being flown.

And yes people do have misconceptions about it, but around here at least 85% of the people don’t really mind it at all. That’s caucasions, african-americans, hispanics, asians, etc.

But all in all I rather enjoyed the video it was quite hilarious!

It’s also good to know there’s another southerner who likes Trek! They are indeed few and far between! (around here anyways)

Well you must not have been here for very long. I’m in southeast Tennessee, and there aren’t many people here who do. What I usually see, is the American flag flying along with the Tennessee flag. I’ve hardly seen anybody sport the rebel flag. The only place where I’ve seen it (though rare), has been in a window of a run-down house or a trailer park out in the middle of nowhere. Otherwise, here where I am, it’s not to be found. It may not represent what it symbolizes these days (that’s in debate), but if that’s the way it’s interepreted, then I say it’s something we can do without. We have the American flag, and that’s all we need.

Don’t get me wrong, thre’s nothing wrong with “you might be a redneck” jokes, and with making fun of southern culture–I mean heck, we make fun of ourselves. At the same time though, it’s this symbol that concerned me so much. it’s not that I want to nit-pick the video, but southern culture is widely sterotyped as being characterized by ignorance and racism. There are many people in our nation who have bigoted misconceptions when it comes to people around here. I’m sure having that symbol in the video didn’t intend to fuel that fire, but it certainly didn’t help matters either. Just making a point.

My only difficulty is that whole torch aspect…

TOS hasn’t really held it since 1994 and if we’re talking about as the franchise as a whole, nobody from this film invited a certain Mr. Bakula on the set to present it in person.

and I almost teared up when I saw the Big E sail off into the sunset…
