Dear Mr. Nimoy,

Although many years have gone by, you are STILL a man “before your time”. Many, many thanks for hours of thought-provoking entertainment. Star Trek is one of the brightest spots in my youth, tacky costumes and all. After the bleakness and paranoia of the 1950’s, with the fear of anything different (as in, “alien”), you guys burst upon the scene in all your glory. What a joy!

I’m not one for adulation of people I’ve not met, but I do respect Mr. Nimoy and his commitment to art very deeply. He has always struck me as someone with whom I would really want just to have a conversation about things, not just Star Trek.

I met you at a lecture you gave in the mid-70s, somewhere in Upstate New York… I can’t recall the venue, but I still remember what a dignified and funny man you were.

I hope there’s many more birthdays to come for both you AND Shatner.
