Sorry, bit of a typo -

Its supposed to say "The new Star Trek film is terrible, ..."

Either way, I'm pretty passionate about Star Trek and its ideals, and this movie is far from anything Gene Roddenberry would release.

Here's what really needs to be done with the Star Trek franchise:
Make a Star Trek Voyager & DS9 movie, there were some plots already developed and things that need continuation and closure, I will elaborate in a moment. They should reboot Enterprise, and start it off from the second to last episode, you know before they jumped 10 years into the future randomly, killed Tucker, and made everyone a recreation on the Holodeck of TNG's Enterprise D during the episode Pegasus.

And guess what I just found! Here:
On the 16th May 2009 Paramount expressed an interest in bringing back Star Trek: Enterprise in the form of 3 DVD movies. The spokesperson was speaking at a gala event held annually at the studios.

Quote: 'Star Trek is our finest property and the new movie has only furthered the close bonds between the studio and this wonderful creation. We may have been a little wrong when we cancelled Enterprise, and we'll be rectifying that soon

Of course, if they simply slap out some DVDs, I'd be pissed, but I believe they are planning on rebooting the series, whether via a theater release, or by starting the series off again, a season 5 perhaps?

Back to how they can do a Voyager or DS9 movie; a Voyager movie would be quite necessary, for instance - the unanswered Species 8479 invasion, 7 of 9 and Chakotay's relationship, B'Elanna Torres' baby, and oh.. you know all of a sudden crippling the Borg, traveling 50,000 light years back to the Alpha Quadrant following a Borg Sphere which is destroyed by a few dozen Starfleet vessels, then emerge seemingly unharmed, greeted by Admiral Paris, and then with a minute to spare, set a course...for home. Of course we can cram that into a two-part episode, right?

Unfortunately, everyone following the series is pulling their hair out, wondering; "How can they seriously end the series like this - they have to make a movie, they just have to!"

The ending of Voyager is mimicked by the ending of The Sopranos' last episode. You just know a movie is needed, and it has to be epic.

Just because JJ Abrams has a successful series "Lost", which I find has a terrible plotline and leaves viewers just as the title conveys, he gets tossed into directing this abomination of a movie.

Rick Berman gets tossed aside, along with him, the film idea of creating a continuation of Voyager series - no joke there, so when you hit Endgame (Voyagers last episode) and are left wondering "Where the hell is the rest of it.. they can't end it like that!?" you can thank Paramount/CBS.

The new Star Trek film is, and a quote taken from a Rotten Tomatoes reviewer and fellow Trek fan, fits perfectly. To sum it up, it compares the new Star Trek film to watching Tiny Toons. You get an idea of who the characters are supposed to be, but looses the essence of the original intent. Now this is not to say that Tiny Toons is bad, but the new Star Trek movie certainly is.

The movie is targeted solely towards "fanboys" and idiots who don't watch Star Trek at all and only want some action and zero ethical dilemmas/correlations to our time. To try and rebirth the Star Trek franchise by dumping everyone with any previous involvement is to only birth some monstrosity that is disguised as something Stat Trek.

Now not all Star Trek movies were good - in fact two of them were horrible - Star Trek Nemesis was terrible, but really just for the ending. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier was pretty bad, mocking God in a sense, but regardless, it was pretty bad.

As I said I hope he is sincere in his respect in Roddenberry's vision

I do believe that if the film is good I can get use to the production design, but that does not mean I will ever truly like it. Thast will never happen but I can overlook it if the characters and plot are right. However, to me it still could have been more faithful to TOSdesigns and still look updated.

I still think JJ is over rated but because this movie is Star Trek I am still going to give it a chance, even though I am not happy with any of the changes.

Truth is I gave up on the is film being canon a long time ago, ignoring it as canon and treating it as a separate entity as I said in an earlier post is the best way to treat this movie. I hate the term reboot but in this case I would rather view the new movie as a reboot.

88:

The Enterprise Bridge in this film is irrelevant. It fits into the top of the primary hull, and the seats are all the same, facing a big screen. You and others are just nitpicking small details.

JJ is a consummate schmoozer, and says the right thing depending upon his audience. Basic film marketing.

If the film is a success, JJ will not stay up at night worrying about production design or the few fans who hate the new designs.

"The New i-prise and so on has ZERO inspiration from TOS"

Let's see...saucer, secondary hull, nacelles, deflector, shuttle bay...all seems to be where it should be. Just because it wasn't what YOU would have wanted doesn't mean there was no inspiration from the source material.

FWIW, it's not what I would have done either, but I'm not going to dismiss it out of hand. It's someone else's interpretation. Let's see what she's got!

What I've seen of this movie and its designs has surprised me. Not 100% pleasantly, but I'm not about to turn down a potential feast after having just sampled a few ingredients.

Wow, I can't believe the resistance to that interpretation of Kirk and Spock's relationship. Even Gene Roddenberry said:

"Yes, there's certainly some of that—certainly with love overtones. Deep love. The only difference being, the Greek ideal—we never suggested in the series—physical love between the two. But it's the—we certainly had the feeling that the affection was sufficient for that, if that were the particular style of the 23rd century."

JJ said:
Star Trek of all things has got such a famous, vocal fan base, and if you don’t address them and make sure you’re honoring all that they know and love about the series, you’re completely screwed.
----
This very true, not just for star trek, but also every else too.
I'm glad to see JJ talking to the fan-base and with better understanding.

The thing is We have two version of JJ:
1. The "This is NOT for the fans"/ "Star Wars is Better" JJ.
2. The "I'm honoring Gene"/ "understanding the fans" JJ.

The question is which version of JJ made this new film?

I hope this new understanding was a part of the making of the film and not afterwards or JJ is completely screwed.

---------
JJ said: The approach to this whole movie in every detail was to take the inspiration from what was in The Original Series and then filter it through what is relevant and vital for now. Not to say the goal was to make it cool or to make it different, but to make it real.
--------
Bulls*** on this one.
The New i-prise and so on has ZERO inspiration from TOS, only the uniforms do. It is not realistic and it even looks less realistic than past Star Trek Show. The LCARS on the i-prise are nonsense, The lights pointing out and facing the camera are dumb, The waitress stands are silly, The LED red-light treatment wands are dumb (no they are not barcode scanners, I know because I own one which is the same type on the i-prise bridge) and so on.
JJ, stop the more realistic bulls*** about the new designs.
Just be open, nice, listen and be truthful to the fans...
Do this and JJ, you'll better off.
