thanks for linking to my videos. sadly I had to remove them because of a copyright claim by varese sarabande. full copies of giacchino's score have been appearing on youtube. that's why they're "boldly" taking down all content without bothering, even my videos that contained just a few snippets already released elsewhere as promotion. sorry, but not my fault.

Got my tickets today for the May 7th IMAX showing here in Houston, TX at 9:55 pm...I cannot wait...in the words of Eric Cartman, "nah nah nah nah nah nah, ha ha ha ha ha ha!"

And #109, he said that the score reminded him of "sailing ships", which is hopefully NOT what this score will wind up doing...at least I hope not

I would dare say Goldsmith far exceeds Williams in the complexity of his music, tonal quality, etc. Williams has repeated the same few themes for the last 30 years. Goldsmith was always more evocative and showed more depth. This score likely matches the film nicely, and since Abrams & Giacchino work together so well, it should match the feel of the movie. I'm enjoying the TOS theme in full orchestration, as well as the "Enterprising Young Man" cut.

Tickets are purchased for Thursday, May 7, 7pm... Not sure I'll be able to contain my primitive emotions until then...

Music feels a bit underwhelming but I'll have to hear it matched with the film. Sounds extrememely similar to Cliff Eidelman's Trek VI score which has really grown on me. Not Jerry Goldsmith's TMP score but then again that was the best SCi-Fi score of all time including anything John Williams ever did

Like I said many times before, the recurring theme running in the soundtrack (or rather, what we've heard so far) is very "Batman Forever"-ish. I still need to get past that, but I do like "Hella Bar Talk" because it's subtle and driving at the same time.

Nero Sighted sound really cool. Some people have compared it to Horner, but it sounds more like music that could have actually come from a TOS episode to me.

With regard to the music snippets, the original theme during the end credits is a welcome addition and I'm sure I'll get choked up when it's played on the big screen, most likely to some shot of the Enterprise warping away. However, Giacchino's bridge in that piece before the reprise of the Star Trek theme is a little odd and too...cheery? That bridge that's played sounds like something from Speed Racer and seems a little out of place.

The rest of the music seems OK but somewhat generic to me. It'll probably fit the scenes in the movie but I don't hear any memorable melodies. It reminds me of a comment by Gerry Goldsmith on one of the ST:TMP documentaries. He'd prepared a piece of mucic for when Scotty takes Kirk to the Enterprise in the Travel Pod. Upon playing it for Robert Wise, Wise was less than enthusiastic. When Goldsmith asked him what was wrong with the piece, Wise said it had no melody. That's what I get from the snippets of Giacchino's original score: sweeping music but no particular melody.
