.. to #30 ... as much as I love Bill Shatner, the zoom-in / out of that episode which I have on DVD from a friend at Universal absolutely drives me crazy. It seemed to be a continuation of the Star Trek Season 3 diving even further in the "zoom" grafitti that appeared in many Season 3 episodes had Star Trek been unmercifully granted a Season 4 - in which case TNG and TMP would probably have never come to pass. Gary Lockwood also appeared on The Six Million Dollar Man about the same time, and he got a much better role and gave a much better performance. Paul Fix (Kelso) and Malachi Throne (Mendez and many others) appeared about the same time on the show, often together.

The dolphin story reminded me of an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man entitled Burning Bright
where Shatner Played an Astronaut friend of Steve Austin who developed advanced mental abilities including
ESP after returning from his latest space walk , and established a telepathic link with a dolphin.
He wanted to go on a spce mission with the dolphin
But NASA turned him down.

I love, love, love this weekly highlight of my intellectual life. Looks like 2 Shuttles are on the launch pad for the last time. Atlantis on Pad 39A and Endeavor under the heavily renovated Pad 39B. Many changes have already been done to 39B for a July first launch test of the follow-on Orion space program. That launch will contain a fully "dummy" second stage, and the test will be in the separation characteristics between the first stage - a 5-segment SRB motor and the "dummy" second stage. Up to five of these tests will take place over the next 3 years and in 2012 a 2-stage test will begin. The 2nd stage consists of an orange tank and liquid fuel. It will lack the sophistication of the Shuttle engines as the entire 2nd stage including the engines is expendible. Imagine a Shuttle ET placed atop a Shuttle Booster, with a capsule on top. If nothing untowards happens to Atlantis when it heads on a 28 degree easterly launch to meet with the international space station (the Space Station launches are a northeasterly 52 degree launch inclination) then all of the crew training for the rescue vehicle, Endeavor will be for nothing and a new crew will be assigned for the next launch after that, Endeavor to the space station. If Endeavor has to launch to rescue Atlantis' crew, then it will, and that will be the end of the Shuttle program. Endeavor will not launch from 39B - it will be rolled over to pad 39A . Once Endeavor leaves launch pad 39B - one way or another, then the accelerated conversion to the launch pad to support Orion will begin, and it will soon become completely unrecognizable. There are 3 flights left for Atlantis (2 to the station), 3 left for Endeavor, and 2 left for Discovery - and all will take place from Launch Pad 39-A - we hope.

We don't need a dolphin vocabulary. They're just going to thank us for the fish and then fly into space.
