I just read all of this discussion history and I see a world I was unaware of. With all the discussion about the destruction of Vulcan, which I abhor the cavelier attitude in the movie about it, I don’t see any discussion on their use, once more, of time travel. Why, oh why, do they have to use time travel in every single TV show or movie of late. Can’t anyone come up with ideas that don’t require the use of that old tired story line. And why do they think they need to keep bringing back the old characters? If you’re going to jump-start Star Trek again with an infusion of new and better writing, why not do it new and with better writing. I’m disappointed in this movie and it looks like I’m the only one.

#113 r–theres no reset button THIS film… but nothing says there won’t be one NEXT film…say the early entry of Carol Marcus and The Genesis Device? Only here the Genesis Device isn’t a terraforming device but a temporal reset device that can undo the destruction of Vulcan without ripping apart the space-time continuum…:)

#144…yes you’re right, but remember at the end of WOK they left and obvious “out” in case they decided to bring back Spock for another installment…if you read the movie reviews from back in ‘82 (I am a Journalism major, so yes, I actually do this…Is phony major!!!), even the critics back then knew that ST II wasn’t the last we’d seen of Spock

So what I’m betting on is that Abrams can blow the s*** out of Vulcan, but leave some kind of loophole open to bring it back

It’s like Comic Book Death…you can kill Superman on every panel of every page and still bring him back next issue…that’s why I used to love writing short stories, you can do what you want within your own little universe and then give the reader a giant middle finger by undoing it in the next installment

ST is still a movie franchise, and if they are really already penning the script for the next film for 2011, then that means they have an idea of where this is going to go, so I wouldnt worry about it

On the other hand, if they pull some gay RDM crap from BSG and decide to have the Vulcans entire random coordinates and land on a new planet that they decide to call “Vulcan”, only it’s 150,000 years ago and Spock turns out to be an “angel”, then I will be ever so pissed….
