JJ Abrams & Star Trek Cast/Crew Attend Shatner Charity Event – First Meeting of the Kirks [UPDATED: More pics] April 25, 2009
by Anthony Pascale , Filed under: Celebrity, Shatner, Star Trek (2009 film) , trackback
As noted in our last ShatWatch, there were two big events today: The William Shatner Horse Show, and a big Paramount press day for Star Trek. And so as soon as they wrapped up their press event, JJ Abrams and members of the Star Trek team and cast whisked across town to attend Bill’s charity horse event, and TrekMovie has the first photo of the first meeting of the new Kirks.
Two Kirks meet
Although Zachary Quinto has had the opportunity to work with Leonard Nimoy, and John Cho and Zoe Saldana have had the chance to talk to the actors who originated their roles (George Takei & Nichelle Nichols), tonight was the first time that William Shatner and Chris Pine have met. The meeting of the two Kirks happened just minutes ago and a reader attending the event just sent in this photo from a camera phone:

(L-R) Elizabeth Shatner, William Shatner, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto (seated back to cam), Bruce Greenwood

Paramount and JJ Abrams reserved a number of tables at the Horse Show charity event dinner. Amongst the attendees tonight are Star Trek director JJ Abrams, writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, executive producer Bryan Burk, along with stars: Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Leonard Nimoy (Spock), Bruce Greenwod (Pike), Karl Urban (McCoy), John Cho (Sulu), and Clifton Collins Jr. (Ayel).

LIVE UPDATE 1
TrekMovie has been sent a couple of new images as the event is still going on.

More to come
TrekMovie will have more coverage of the Star Trek team meeting with Shatner later, so look for an update.

Thats interesting,,
I wonder if they talked much about ST:TFB
or the next trek ST : ???
:o)
Interesting. Looks like Pine is introducing the Shat to the table; almost like Pine and Shatner have already spoken before this picture.
And it’s not ST:TFB! Just Star Trek.
Is this a time paradox? If not, it’s still awesome…
“KHAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!!!”"
….My horse!…..”
Oh Yes!!! :D They meet!!! Finally it happens.
Can’t wait to hear what they have to say about each other.
Yesssssssssss…The Kirks finally meet!!! James T. Kirk will rise from the dead in the prime universe!
Oh, this is so good to see. Years ago, Shatner and crew may not have expected to see themselves handing over the Star Trek torch like this. Surely, they had no idea that by their years of hard work and example, they were mentors in the making. They will never, ever be forgotten for it. This really warms my heart.
cool
Awesome wonder if they talked at all about trek and kirk rolls
Cool.
It’s almost like that episode where the transporter splits Kirk into two people. (I wonder which one is the evil one.)
AWESOME!!!
More pics please!!!
#8: “Years ago, Shatner and crew may not have expected to see themselves handing over the Star Trek torch like this.”
I think it’s fair to say that years ago, they had no idea there’d _be_ a torch :)
It must do the original actors some good to see the original series’ style of Trek storytelling brought back to the front burner and taking the world by storm after almost 20 years of hearing how 24th Trek was the direction Trek needed to take. What’s old is new and Trek is exciting again. Feels good.
Hmmmm, I think the western half of the United States just exploded with the meeting of these two!! LoL
It’s really sad that it didn’t happen earlier though.
Cool pic.
Although I gotta say, it’s definitely weird that the original, dashing Captain Kirk from TOS basically looks like… my overweight, out of shape dad now.
I mean, that’s just not right. lol : D
#14: How true, how true!
Is it just me or would that be photo be GREAT for a caption contest? :D
NIce. Good to finally see these two meet. A little late but oh so great.
I’m out in the middle of nowhere in Iowa, only 45 mi from Riverside. Everywhere I looked, there were no movie tickets for sale for any of the close movie theaters, meaning Iowa City an hour away and everything closer. .This included Fandango.com. Finally I found them on sale at movietickets.com. If anyone is having a hard time finding movie tickets online, first try movietickets.com
It’s really cool they all attended.
I can only imagine how cool it would be to listen in on some of the conversation and stories told that night.
I wonder if Pine was nervous. It must be a little intimidating or surreal to meet the legend you’re replacing.
Bruce Greenwood is my boy. He looks young in that picture.
Oh my god! I’m angry at myself now. I went to the horse show but not the dinner. I was so close and yet so far!
Watching TOS Trek now as I prep for the movie, I am showing my son and daughter (12 & 8 respectively) a lot of the old eps to prep them.
They think the Shat Kirk is the coolest (reminds them of James West, we have already watched all the WWW episodes on DVD).
I pray that Pine Kirk can live up to Mr. Shatners so I can take them to TFB and have them ask to see more TOS after the thrill of TFB is fresh in their minds.
I don’t think they’ll ever appreciate how much Captain Kirk meant to me growing up and how upset I was that TNG had to kill him so they could move past the shadow of TOS and establish TNG as the sole keeper of the flame.
I guess Insurrection and Nemesis took care of that ambition.
I’m am very sincere in hoping Mr. Pine can live up to the portrayal of James Tiberius Kirk.
How awesome. I used to go to this when I lived in L.A. A friend did go and of course called me screaming about the TWO KIRKS! Awesome pic.
I want to see Chris Pine or JJ on Raw Nerve!
OMG and I want the 2 Kirks at the Vegas Con this year! Are you listening Adam??
Was nice of the youngsters to show up to this event considering they are probably exhausted from their world-wide press junket.
About time these guys meet, I can’t wait to hear how it went…
Great event, great cause. I hope they raised a bunch of money.
Deja Vu. This means William Shatner is okay with new Star Trek movie.
This makes me smile inside.

lol, I second that emotion, although I liked TNG and loved DS9, TOS is and will always be my first Trek.

I think the online ticket sellers have bought up exclusive rights to sell tickets for each theater- in California where I live, I tried to buy from movietickets.com and it said none of theaters here participate in that service, Fandango OTOH seems to have every theater in town available.
My dad just called- he wants to see this with me, Lol, I have to buy an extra ticket, I hope the showings not sold out!

Real Kirk and Spock will be there! :) Pine hasn’t been announced yet, but as Quinto has been invited, I think Pine will, too.
http://www.creationent.com
That’s pretty cool. It’s nice to see them chatting it up at an event like that. Looks like they’re having fun meeting each other. William Shatner seems to me to be a sincere and gracious host with a practical jokester side to him. Reminds me of my dad’s personality a bit. Yeah, he’s a ham, but a nice one. I know he’d be a great guy to actually know.
This is cool stuff and I’m rooting big time for the new movie.
holy sh*t

Amen. I’m a 46-year-old leadership consultant, and my first lessons on leadership I learned from Shatner’s James T. Kirk. His confidence and unwavering sense of duty contributed to my resisting unwise peer pressure and sticking to my values.
I’ll never forget a Star Trek convention my dad took me to as a kid in Oakland, CA. Bill was one of the guests, and during the Q&A session I had my hand raised for the entire first 30 minutes or so. I was waaay in the back of this huge auditorium, and yet he picked me out and I was able to ask him my question. It’s such a silly thing now, but man did it mean a lot to a 13-year-old kid who finally got to connect with his hero.
Shatner will always have a soft spot in my heart for bringing such a great character to life.
They should have found a way to get Shatner involved.
Re: 41
No, they should not have.
#36–I agree, and I had to buy an extra ticket too, for my mom. She was the one who introduced me to Star Trek as a kid, so I’m a second generation Trekkie.
#41–I second #42.
This was a CLASSY MOVE for both parties involved. Seeing Shatner hobnob with the TREK09 crew is heartwarming indeed.
Now we just need to see the Shat and George Takei share a great, big bear-hug on “Raw Nerve” and bury the hatchet once and for all!
Hey everybody,
just came back from the event, and William Shatner was so gracious and amazing to all of us. He is true class act, and an amazing story teller. And watching his first meeting with Chris Pine was a mindblower. Unreal.
new trek videos!

46. Great to hear. I love a happy ending.
I like Bruce Greenwood’s Pink Floyd Animals Tour 1977 t-shirt…
This is a truly heartwarming event. It shows what a class act JJ Abrams and his colleagues are!
#47–Look at the post on trekmovie.com (home page) that came right before this one. Those clips have already been announced.
Bob, you all picked a cool way to be with Bill Shatner. We need video.
Where’s the picture of Willie Nelson? : (
why isn’t there a picture with Shatner and JJ??
“Im captain Kirk !!” “IM CAPTAIN KIRRRRK!!!!!
The first photo:
Shat in cowboy hat…the look on his face…
Shatner: “Zach..look at me as if I’m still giving orders…”
Quinto: “What?”
Shatner: “Do it! While we still have time!” Do you trust this…this Ayel? He’s here…Now. Has the ship detected any other unusual activity?”
Quinto: “I…”
Pinewood: “This is gonna be good!..”
Pine: “Woah! Hold on there, Tex! Right now, the ’ship’ is ‘detecting’ unusual activity…right here! Can I get you a drink? Why don’t you just …run those ‘reports’ by my secretary, Bill, instead of Zach here? I seem to have the keys.”
Shatner: “*Sigh*…Look guys, it’s been fun. I think Willie Nelson’s in some kind of trouble…If you’ll excuse me? See you ’round the galaxy ‘.” Leaves.
Pine: “Thank God! Spock! Anything?”
Quinto: “A low-level alien scan of Earth IS still in effect. Without ship’s computers, I will be unable to probe beyond the signal’s..existence. It is far too advanced. Ayel’s presence here is…provocative. He is searching for something…”
Pine: “Let’s get to Enterprise within the hour. Create your own diversions and get out. Don’t let Shatner see the beam-out. Briefing Room at 0200. Bruce…You in on this?”
Pinewood “BEEP!”
Pine: “Awesome, dudes!”
Sweet. Must have more pictures.
Its good to see this!
#56–combination fail and ironic epic win: its bruce greenwood not pinewood, which is ironic because u transposing pine’s name into greenwoods by saying pinewood alludes to chris pines name being so similar to that of the character greenwood plays
Thanks Hypno! It’s late here! Thinking of the studios in the UK. We’ll keep the irony to ourselves. Or maybe not. Beep Beep!

I think this was a pretty classy thing for the new guys to do. No doubt, Mr. Shatner appreciated their support at his charity event, and they were probably not under any specific pressure to attend. Very nice, indeed…
I wish I could have been at this thing.
#61
I’d say it was a pretty classy thing for Shatner to do…:)
I’ll never smoke weed with Willie again
@ 2 I know i gets annoying….
Its not like “Oh hey wait I cant wait to see star trek TFB”
“oh thank goodness you said tfb I thought you were waiting to see the voyage home”
Officially it isnt tfb. it even said so a while back. just trek.
I wonder, what would happen if both Kirks touched, would the universe implode or something!
Shatner & Friends, Int’l. club members took a slew of photos. From the event, I unfortunately had shaky video of the new cast when they met with the press outside before the dinner. I caught Nimoy and Quinto together plus the other new cast members. However, I did not catch Shatner and Pine together. Zoe Saldana was a no-show, but the rest was there, including J.J. Abrams and Roberto Orci. (OT, Jeff Bridges and Tim Allen were at the dinner, too.)
This is AWESOME. And it should, once and for all, shut up all the dumb naysayers who’ve been saying for 2 years now that Shat was opposed to the new movie. He is not!
10. Tony
Too bad Shatner has more Kirk “rolls” than Pine. lol !!!!!!!!
I’m one of the biggest Shat fans around (and need to lose a few pounds myself) and would have loved to see him in the new movie, but Jeez Louise, Bill, please start taking some Mega Green Tea…
The Shat is very youthful looking at 78, but needs to lose at least forty pounds.
@19
‘Is it just me or would that be photo be GREAT for a caption contest? :D’
Yes! I second! Just for the first pic :)
Here’s mine:
Shat: “I waited for Pine here on Delta Vega for weeks but he never came. Had to eat the horses.”
OK that’s lame, so someone do better; quick!
70 — How about:
“White Commanche Meets Young, Svelt Kirk”
Great photos.
Just a pity they hadn’t been pictured together in the actual movie too, somehow….
As Bret Michaels of the band Poison would say: AWESOME!!!
It’s just been reported from the charity horse show that William was showing Chris his famous Kirk drop kick, and landed on Pine and has collapsed his left lung from the extreme overweight Shatner! Bill reportedly laughed and said: “Gotta learn to drop and roll kid if ya wanna be Captain Kirk!”
Film @ 11!
All they needed was James Cawley there & it would’ve been perfect!
The circle is now complete!!!!
#8: “Years ago, Shatner and crew may not have expected to see themselves handing over the Star Trek torch like this.”
I suspect years ago they would have been surprised it took so long to recast the roles!
Personally, I think they should have made Harve’s Starfleet Academy film into a TV series in place of TNG, then graduated the new cast to the feature films in the 1990s!
25
“…..They think the Shat Kirk is the coolest (reminds them of James West, we have already watched all the WWW episodes on DVD).”
Good for you. My boys will know both of these shows (when they get a little older).
I just wonder if Pine learned anything from Shatner. He should.
It’s a peace offering from JJ Abrams. I don’t know why Shatner always plays so hard to get, but…
21. TREKKIE369 – April 25, 2009
Good to see a fellow Iowan on the board. Stay dry.
I was at the event last night and spoke with Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Leonard Nimoy and JJ Abrams. They are all really nice guys! Chris Pine especially. They were very supportive of Mr. Shatner and his charity event and they were willing to pose with people for photos. It was nice to see them there and there seemed to be genuine affection for Mr. Shatner. I hope we see more of them in future events!

Woah!! @#82.
simmer down, dude!
Pine seems like a nice, really friendly fellow, but is he losing his hair?! Look at his temples.
Shatner should appreciate the fact that Abrams and company are bringing so much publicity to his horse show.

I guess that’s why you aren’t Shatner.
Anthony
Would you please look at post #85. Sue35 – April 26, 2009. and Jerry on #86.
thanks
85. Sue35: ‘I can’t believe all the ass kissing Abrams gets.’
He doesn’t. He’s an extremely talented major player in Hollywood who actually exists on a much smaller personality cult than, say, Joss Whedon. Love it or loathe it, JJ Abrams’ work speaks for itself!
‘This idiot throws away 40 years of Trek and these “fans” are so happy about it.’
He hasn’t. Starship-based Star Trek burnt out after running a good decade longer than it should have done! There shouldn’t have been a starship-based show after TNG and all Trek should have had a cooling-off period of a good five years at the start of the century!
‘He blows up Vulcan and Romulan home worlds, throws away TNG and DS9. NICE….’
Very nice! For once, the stakes are genuinely high and there’s no cowardly ‘reset’ switch! Gasp! A production team with some balls! Unless he’s banned the distribution of DVDs, I can’t see any sign of TNG or DS9 going anywhere. For that matter, had even Rick Berman stayed, TNG in cinema was finished after Nemesis, with a prequel movie about the Romulans in the offing. DS9 ended in 1999. Some of the kids who will become fans of the new Star Trek weren’t even born when DS9 ended!
‘What did we do to deserve to get this tool.’
Nothing. I thought people like you were too busy bitching! We’re lucky to have someone with the tools for the job!
‘Shatner should of told them all to kiss his ass!’
He probably said ‘Thank you!’ for their contributions to his charity event. Equally, their presence benefits his public profile and his benefits the soon-to-be-released film!
‘Chris Pine looks like a pedophile anyways.’
Apart from that remark being libellous, one has to wonder how you know enough to spot one!!!
82. Xao: ‘If I was Shatner I would of spit in Abrams face and told Pine to f off!’
Well you’re not and he didn’t!
‘I can’t believe all the ass kissing you people do on this site.’
I can’t believe the pathetic, foul-mouthed trolling of certain people on this site!
‘What are you on Abrams pay role?’
No and we’re not on his payroll either!
I am a Huge Shat fan,
Im shure he was very supriesd . Im shure
it was a “vulcan” olive branch.

Hey Xai do you have a twin in Xao we don’t know about??
#72- I agree, alas that opportunity is lost to us now,the speculation finished and a new beginning approaches.I can’t help but wonder what was going through Bill Shatners mind as he sat there listening to Willie Nelson? The cast and crew members turning up at this charity horse show event was a bit like closing the barn door after the horses have bolted.
I second #41.
@82, 85, 86: How utterly charming. Are you all related?
Your logic fails so hard it breaks the universe a little bit.

#95 That is a horrible comment.shame on you .
Some of these negative comments are why people got shoved into lockers at school methinks. They would rather have a dead franchise than what is happening now.
JJ Abrams has had huge success and it’s well deserved. Kudos to him for doing what no one here in this comment board could ever do (unless Mr. Orci shows up that is).
No surprise to see them coming out of the woodwork on here at this stage.
85. Pedophile
I’m an avid bicylcist myself.

Shatner’s charity show exists for 19 years now and keeps attracting fans, garning national press coverage, and being attended by high-profile donators and musicians alike, who are interested in world-class reining horses and riders and helping handicapped children at the same time. Shatner founded it, he’s established it, and he’s turned it into a success story lasting for almost 2 decades now. Granted, it won’t hurt to have some extra donators at your fingertips, but if you think Shatner needs Abrams & Co’s popularity or should be even grateful for it, you’re way off base.
#85
- Chris Pine looks like a pedophile anyways. -
Huh? You shouldn’t wrong yourself by uttering such a piece of impudence.

Could this incredibility be deleted, please.
As Kirk’s Girdle likes to say, people seem to have set their phasers on “douche”, lol
geez… all the crazies are coming out of the woodwork in a hurry. why I am not surprised?

When are some of you folks going to catch on that freedom of speech means people can say what they like regardless of what YOU think!
Freedom of speech does not = ” you can only say what a bunch of people agree you can.”
p.s. GO Shat! Always an awesome guy!
Actually Pine is in talks to play the lead in “T.J Hooker The Motion Picture”. He was just asking Shat for some pointers!
When are some of you folks going to catch on that freedom of speech means people can say what they like regardless of what YOU think!
Freedom of speech is only protected in public places in the united states, and public funded places, not privately owned forums like this. Places like this rely on something most people dismiss as “PC” but in older days was known as “politeness”, or “tact” or “good taste” or “class”. If the site owner is fine with distasteful idiocy he can let it go, or he can censor the comment or the user.
correction- my comment in 105 was for post 103
Hey, Bob Orci….
So what happened with the two Kirks?
Did they get along, and will Shatner see the film?
Did you get to talk with him at all?
PS: I really like the film…a lot. It made want to run home and start drawing little pictures of the Enterprise like when i was a kid.
So much weird and offensive negativity from people on this thread, directed at both Mr Shatner and Messrs Abrams and Pine, including terrible, terrible things you would never say to someone’s face. Shatner, Pine et al have come together to do something for charity, with nothing but good intentions and clearly, based on these nice pictures, enthusiasm and fellowship and some of you people – of whom nothing has been asked, never mind demanded – behave like this? Shame on you. What cause have you for this? I’m ashamed to even read what you’ve written. Freedom of speech does not extend to shouting ‘Fire!’ in a crowded theatre. Nor does it extend to slander. It’s not rocket science.
“Shatner’s charity show exists for 19 years now and keeps attracting fans, garning national press coverage, and being attended by high-profile donators and musicians alike, who are interested in world-class reining horses and riders and helping handicapped children at the same time. Iowagirl — Amen. I remember going to the very first one! I lived very close to where he did it and was a horse rider myself at the time (we’d rent horses and ride through Griffith Park). His charity is awesome and the event so much fun. I haven’t gotten to go but a couple times now that I moved out of CA but I’d recommend to anyone in the future.
34, 25 – argh! How many times must I hear rewritten history? In his own book Star Trek Movie Memories, he said he was ready to kill off Kirk; the producers were waiting for him to object and he didn’t, and that he thought he “killed him well”. So don’t blame the TNG folks – they just wrote the script, that Shatner didn’t have to agree to do. Shatner allowed Kirk to die in that movie, it was his choice, it was his fault. If he’d objected, they’d have gone with a different script that didn’t have Kirk die at the end (maybe return to his time or whatever).
I blame Shatner for Kirk’s death, not the TNG folks. He had the power to keep it from happening, and he didn’t use it. Quite the opposite, in fact.
If Willie was the entertainment, then you know someone slipped out back to smoke a J.
#105
you just another squeaky PC wheel, just becasue you don’t like something doesn’t mean it needs edited either.
I personally find your pious self righteousness annoying as hell, but think you should be allowed to say your piece regardless of my opinion.
#78
I’m sure that Shatner taught him how to properly inflect, “Why are you talkin’ to me, man?” Or maybe that’s what Shatner was thinking!
Give Pine a chance….
It’s posts like 82, etc. that make me miss Stanky. He may not like the new movie but at least he’s a human being about it.
Shatner looks like he is going “Hey, you guys can you leave”
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to pollute someone else’s site with vomit and bile.
Sign up for your own damn site and take your diarrhoea there.
Did Shatner invite everyone or was this a surprise for him?
#117 …Paramount had reserved the table ahead of time, so Shat knew. This is so nice to see. I really hope Bill shows up for the LA premiere, I wanna see more of the 2 Kirks!!
112. Just some guy : I despise political correctness as one of the great diseases of our time, but the remark to which you’re referring was plain rude! This is a privately-owned site, not a democracy, so the adminstrators have the right to slap down anyone who violates their code!
110. GraniteTrek: ‘34, 25 – argh! How many times must I hear rewritten history? In his own book Star Trek Movie Memories, he said he was ready to kill off Kirk; the producers were waiting for him to object and he didn’t, and that he thought he “killed him well”.’
It’s well-known Berman wanted to kill off Kirk as a way to bury TOS. Remember Berman’s Treks were never anything but patronising where TOS was concerned: Unification was a boring con and Relics was plain offensive. Berman even admits he has never even watched TOS all the way through. Shatner didn’t have to agree to kill Kirk, though he says they’d have found a way to kill off Kirk even if he hadn’t appeared in Generations! Also, at that time, the TOS films had ended and there was a perception that TOS was ‘inferior’ to TNG. Shatner saw the writing on the wall and figured ‘What the hell!’ and did it for the money. As it stands, he’s the best thing in a deeply depressing movie.
‘So don’t blame the TNG folks – they just wrote the script, that Shatner didn’t have to agree to do.’
I do blame them: they shouldn’t have written the script in the first place or at least should have given it several more drafts! It was a rubbish script, openly disliked by the cast even before filming started!
‘Shatner allowed Kirk to die in that movie, it was his choice, it was his fault. If he’d objected, they’d have gone with a different script that didn’t have Kirk die at the end (maybe return to his time or whatever).’
No. They rushed the movie into production a couple off weeks after ‘All Good Things . . .’ finished filming! Leonard Nimoy was offered the director’s chair, but turned it down as he would be forced to use a locked screenplay he didn’t think was up to scratch. It’s sad: had they waited six months to a year to release the first TNG film, it could have been very good indeed! IIRC, subsequently Berman’s team went to court to prevent Shatner, Nimoy or Meyer from having anything to do with the production of the TNG films.
‘ I blame Shatner for Kirk’s death, not the TNG folks. He had the power to keep it from happening, and he didn’t use it. Quite the opposite, in fact.’
In the end, there were bad decisions all round. The only good ones were for Nimoy and Deforest Kelley to run a mile! There’s plenty of blame for everyone to share for Generations : a film that ruined Star Trek for a lot of fans. In terms of personal ‘canon’, I ignore it. I prefer to think of TNG as a separate reality, a la the new Trek film, anyway, so, as far as I’m concerned, the last time I saw any TOS crewmembers other than Spock was at the end of TUC!
@ 119 Have you see the youtube edit of the end of GENERATIONS where Kirk lives?
120. Jim Smith
Yeah I have. It’s a ray of light in a depressing film!
What do we end up with in Generations? The Enterprise-B trashed, the Enterprise-D destroyed, Picard’s entire family line dead and Kirk dead in the sort of incident he’d normally have laughed at as he avoided it!
Also, the way Lursa and B’Etor destroy the Enterprise has to be the sloppiest plot device in history! Are you telling me Geordi’s VISOR wouldn’t have been checked along with his body for devices on his return to the ship?
Intellectually, it was out of step with previous Star Trek films and certainly out of step with TNG. Look at it this way: in 1979 people went to see Star Trek: The Motion Picture, an epic, if a bit clunky, piece of cinema with stunning effects and a serious tone looking at the future of the human race. Fifteen years later we’ve got Generations with ‘jokes’ about toast at breakfast. That says just about all that needs to be said about the fall of Star Trek.
STV:TFF was ambitious, but series-killingly bad. The TOS film series survived on the back of the show’s impending 25th anniversary and got a last spin of the dice. But Generations was actually worse than TFF, because it was utterly unambitious.
We’re told there’s a race of people on Veridian III’s neighbouring world. Do we see them? No. So why should we care about them? They could have made a great TOS/TNG crossover film where they could have gone Godfather II style and intercut a story set across both eras. Instead we got a piece of space tinsel and a few warmed up leftovers from the Klingon civil war.
Poor!
63. “I’d say it was a pretty classy thing for Shatner to do…:)”
I agree completely, Shatner is a very classy guy… I think it was terrific, seeing all these guys get together, and getting along famously…
Meanwhile, I really wish Kirk hadn’t been killed off in GEN primarily because it has impeded Shatner’s options regarding Kirk. I think Shatner should have followed Nimoy’s lead and bailed out on GEN. I suppose I can understand why he did it, but I’d be willing to bet he wishes he hadn’t done it… unless he really expected a “Spock-like” resurrection.
I’m hoping the altered time-line also affected Kirk’s outcome…?
#46… Bob… Please… get the Shat in the next one… you know it’d make it complete for a lot of us out here… go on… oh go on…
Initially, I was opposed to having Shatner appear in the new film series as anyone other than Kirk. But at this point, if they were to work him into XII as James T. Kirk’s granddad, or the commander of Starfleet, I’d accept it. It’d be nice to see Shat & Pine onscreen together.
@ 124, naaaah, stay the course, man. Shatner as Kirk. One last time. He wants to do it. We want to see it. The rest is just details : )
Here here… the time line is changed.. and so with it comes the chance to bring the Shat back in!
So. Which Kirk is from the Terran Empire and which one is from the Federation. Hmmm

“Give Pine a chance….”
I’ll give him one. Then I’ll turn to him and say “Give”. Which in Dr. Sevrin, space hippie speak means he needs to deliver. After that I’ll have to do like Paul Sorvino did Ray Liotta in “Goodfellas”. “I’m gonna have to turn my back now”

And agreed.
And is that Jose Eber behind Pine in the group photo?
Nice! I think it’s great Pine got to speak with Shatner. :3
Wow, I wish I was at this event, too. I hope there were some “photo-op” kind of photos taken with Zachary and Chris and Bill. More than a camera phone. It almost looks like Bill is going to make a Nimoy joke while talking to Quinto.
Shat and Pine look comfortable together, do we dare to dream?
KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!
Shatner tries to show the new Spock how to do the Vulcan Neck Pinch, while telling the new Chris Pike that with J.J. producing Lost: In Space even an escape from Talos 4 is possible.
#132 … the hype aside, this is not the first time the two Kirks have met. For instance, Bill Shatner once encountered a Disco Ball that was the remake of Kirk as the entombed Sargon in 1973 while filming Barbary Coast. And Shatner met the actress who also played Dr. Janice Lester while in a 1976 audition for T.J. Hooker, until she walked away after learning that the role wasn’t about a hooker named T.J. So obviously, the writers are about 30 years behind the times re “the first meeting of the Kirk’s”
Some of the comments on this board have been seriously disturbing. The basic fact is that a FUN evening was had, Trek history was made, and the most important thing: the Hollywood Charity Horse Show made a lot of money to help Ahead With Horses and other deserving causes close to Mr. Shatner’s heart! The new Trek crew were nothing but supportive of the event. Inicidentally, this was the first year that the dinner party was completely sold out!
The publicity helped everyone, most of all sick or disabled children. If this is the only thing that the new Trek film will achieve then it is a noble thing!
I was there… volunteering at the charity event as I have for many years. In answer to previous post, JJ Abrams “bought” a table at the dinner and Paramount did too. As did other donors.
Just prior to the dinner, the media interviewed Mr. Shatner and Mr. Nimoy, along with a prior Top Chef winner (who catered the evening). The various new Star Trek (and other) stars walked around bidding on the items at the silent auction. I noted Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Tim Allen.
Once dinner started, I also saw Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine. Karl Urban and Chris Pine especially seemed to be “hanging out” together enjoying the event. Mr. and Mrs. Nimoy left early (before the concert) and the new Star Trek crew all rushed over to say their goodbyes. I only saw respect from the new crew for Mr. Nimoy and Mr. Shatner.
Kudos to Mr. Abrams and Paramount for supporting this children’s charity! I may or may not like the new film, but it is nice to see that the new Star Trek crew are classy, respectful, and charitable people.
#136 … dittos all the way around (the Universe) – good post.
Definitely very important to all Star Trek fans that there’s no dagger-slashing between stalwarts like Bill Shatner and the new folks producing/directing the XI. A Paramount/Star Trek tradition has it that the older cast directs and produces the new franchise extensions, as we have seen with TNG/Voyager/DSN/Enterprise. I think the fans appreciate the turn-up at Bill’s charity event. Too bad about the whole Takei rant but that should be kept between the actors and not blotch the fan-base. As for the new film, cool to be on this side of the planet in Asia Pacific where the sun rises on 7 May earlier, and we get to view sneaks before Europe and the US. Luckier are the Kiwis in New Zealand… Live long and prosper, all!
