#56, 60 -

#74 is right ... in Canada, just like with every single contest, we got shafted on the LOST title screen sequence. We didn't even get the title this time. Screw.

Anybody who recorded, please post.

@2 Jon

I would suspect that the darker grey uniforms are for the Academy Instructors. While similar to the United States Military Academy, which has seperate uniforms for cadets and instructors, the difference is that West Point profs wear the uniform of the US Army, as opposed to a distincitvie "professor" uniform.

In any case, I think it looks pretty sharp, and a realistic take on a "quasi-military" educational institution that Starfleet Academy is. Of course I have no proof of anything, I'm not an insider, but that seems to be a logical assumption

Cinema related fact: The Oliver Stone film "JFK" (1991) employed lots of quick edits, blurred scene transitions and shaky cam. It won 2 Oscars (best Cinematography & best Film Editing).

I've always preferred Nikon over canon...then again Hasselblad...nevermind...

This is a reboot, remake, resomething, based on somewhat thin and inconsistent back stories for characters created 40 years ago.

In 007, I believe it was M who somehow changed gender. And CIA friend of Bond, Felix managed to go from caucasian to African American.

I agree with those who raise an eyebrow (pun intended) over the fast track promotions Kirk & Company seem to get in this film...but, for what it is worth...

Captain is a title as well as a rank. As a rank, it's the equivalent of a
"full-bird" colonel in the three other branches. As a title it can apply to anyone in command of a "wessel." The commanding officer maybe a
lieutenant by rank, but is called captain by respect.

On a real life/cinema note...in the late 70s a movie about a WWII operation called, A Bridge Too Far, was criticized for casting a rather young Ryan O'Neal as real life Brigadier (one star) General James Gavin.
The critics joked that he looked way to young to be a general...which he did. The irony was, Gavin was one of the youngest generals in history, promoted to that rank I believe at the age of 36.

I realize that the age ranges for other characters such as Chekov don't quite stand up to scrutiny. Prequel Obi-Wan looked about early 30-something, but looked 70-something in A New Hope. The time frame gap between the two shouldn't have been more than 20 years, right?

In 1979 Klingons were suddenly physically bigger with forehead ridges. We lived with it. It was "explained" sort of...in an episode of Enterprise, but by then I really didn't care.

On May 7th or 8th or whenever you see it...sit back and enjoy the ride.

Where are the Andorians? There had better be at least one! None of the Starfleet brass seem to have blue skin. For that matter, none seem to have pigfaces either. Seriously, just give me one antenna and I would be happy. I love those blue bastards.

As far as the "always a bigger fish scene goes, hopefully Orci/Kurtzman were going for a TPM homage because thats exactly what it comes off as. Of course these are the same guys who thought a peeing robot would be HILLARIOUS..sigh.
