I'm a High School student who has seen every episode of every Season of every Star Trek Series, so there can be no one to accuse me of not being a 'true fan'. I absolutely loved the movie. I believe J.J. Abrams presented a perfect representation of the ST universe which appealed to both my fan boy side, as well as the side of me which expects a heart pounding experience when I pay to sit in a Movie Theatre. They did not "throw me under the bus", being a hardcore fan of the series. For those of you complaining fans who actually would have received what you're suggesting, you would not think of seeing it twice. I'm planning on seeing it many times over, however long a ride my low budget will give me. Because it is that; a ride. One which is both exhilarating and interesting.

I personally believe that Abrams appealed to the fans TREMENDOUSLY. Okay, the action sequences are prettier to look at, Hell, you can't rip your eyes away. Okay, some ideas are a little far fetched, well, I'm telling you right now that THAT is the ESSENCE of Star Trek. I believe that someone was complaining about Kirk being promoted so quickly; you obviously did not follow the theme of the film... I am privileged to have been heavily exposed to film analysis in both my Theatre and English classes. I have seen every major production from Rebel Without a Cause to No Country for Old Men, and have written heavily on them. Movies are basically my pastime, and Star Trek, was the best movie of the year so far.

Again, I too, am a die-hard Star Trek fan. Though this is a case where the phrase 'change is good' REALLY means something. The direction they took with Kirk was ingenious; a lone rebel who awaits something which should prove challenging. McCoy was SPOT ON from the old series. As was Scotty (actor was absolutely brilliant). Chekov was stupendous. O'hura was fresh and played into the basest emotional questions we asked throughout the original series. The inclusion of Pike was also ingenious. Sure they took some liberties, but you must understand there were limitations in the 40s which make no sense to carry on today. For example, Star Trek shocked the world with the first ever inter-racial television kiss... All Abrams did was carry the edginess into the 21st century, only now the shock factor comes in a package which is too updated for most Star Trek fans.

Here is a news report explaining the changes Abrams made to the franchise:

I give BATTLESTAR ENTERPRISE a 7.5 out of 10.

Although I like Roger Ebert but I'm not totally d'accord with his STAR TREK review. Most of the time he often knows what he is talking about but he also gave WATCHMEN and KNOWING a 100 at metacritic and both of them were hardly excellent movies...

Nevertheless, Orci's and Kurtzman's writing has it's flaws. The mind melding flashback was like putting the intro of a TV show in the middle of the movie. It almost broke the hole structure of the film.

On the other hand, the movie was foll of irony and great wordplay. The photography was awsome, the production design not to bad.

The only thing that deranged me were the mathematic and chemical formula in the vulcan school. Why were they displayed in latin scripture?
This was as bad a mistake as the central computer of the Scimitar counting English in NEMESIS.

And the german dubbing of Scotty was like three times more tragic than the killing of six billion vulcans...

Hi,

I'm a Spanish Trek fan and a filmmaker in my country and I just have seen twice the JJ Abrams' film. That's superb, well directed and full of action... It's science-action!!
Seeing these BTS pics I'd love to stay there participating in some way at the next ST XII shooting. To be in that STXI must be something fantastic and unforgeteable for those ones involved.

LLP, Star Trek!! 11 over 10 for this new movie.

JJ should be ashamed for destroying the foundations of Star Trek. He referenced the series and movies in the film while completely rewriting it so now we don't have a planet Vulcan in the star trek universe. Well now this wasn't a look bad in the past was it? No it was a total rewrite in the hopes of getting a newer following by throwing the existing fans under the bus! Spock in a physical relationship with O'hura??? Crap... Cadets put in charge of starships as if noone came before them. Cadets promoted to Captain upon graduation from Star Fleet Academy? I'm sure the people who were commanders in star fleet didn't mind that at all. Nowhere in history and notime in the future will raw cadets be put in charge of a military force. Unless Paramount Pictures owns the planet maybe but who cares if the planet is destroyed by impulsive rewriting and ignorance of history, a favoritism based society, and greed!

This movie's purpose was to throw all existing fans to the wind and replace us with young kids who don't have the patience, understanding, or the attention to stick with something. They want quick everything like Kirk going from cadet to Flagship Captain instantly. Those same people will drop Star Trek like a bad habit as they gain some experience of their own, or even faster if one of their new young stars becomes unpopular. I know people who have been Star Trek fans since it's beginning when I was a young child. Over that time they've gladly paid for movies, memorabilia, conventions, etc etc. The new target audience will not be like that and will not fork out good money after bad for your garbage. I predict a steep decline in the next Trek convention attendance. I predict a poor showing for the next Trek film if there is one after the fallout of all this.

Shame on JJ! Shame on Mabel for allowing this to happen to the legacy of a man who created a uniquely wonderful distraction for all of us! Shame on Paramount for supporting this direction! Shame on Paramount for calling all the generations of Trekkies "cornballish" as they did today in a press release due to the public backlash about the movie. I will be writing to request my ticket price refund. The movie they called Star Trek, did not contain any true link to what we know as Star Trek except by name only. No fundamentals, no consistency, complete rewriting of it's history, and destruction of the "future" thereby negating all the previous movies and television series. Those things the producers are mocking are the things that gave them that job, what makes us go to the movie, what makes us watch the series and they couldn't care less. Guess what JJ, fans are not so easily replaced so now you will see that you will get what you wished for and maybe a little you didn't want. I won't see your next project!

I WANT MY MONEY BACK! Not just from this movie, but all the past movies I spent to see now that they've made them all worthless and will be rewriting the entire history of the future of Star Trek.

I have seen the movie today. Happy to be Dutch so the movie would premier today. I have been waiting and countdown for the movie for months now.

The first hour of the movie where so weird. Knowing and really loving Star Trek for over 10 years really is weird for seeing the movie. After seeing Leonard Nimoy I only could watch the rest of the movie with a really really big smile.

The last time some thing I watched were so great, so strange, so overwhelming, so great, so powerful, so breathtaking it where watching Star Trek for the first times. Now I had it again.

Yes, its not canon all. But, many of the Star Trek movies have part who did not comply to Star Trek canon.

Thanks JJ for making Star Trek as it where the first time I discovered it. Really thanks! Star Trek id for my a part of my live. A Part who thought me the perspective of live, the planet Earth and th universe we live in. You made it again feel so breathtaking.

A warning to all Trekkers who are going to watch. What the trailers says is true: forget everything you know!

Kobayashi Maru set???? Awesome!!! I know this is an alternate universe, but I wonder if they preserved Kirk cheating the scenario. That would be just awesome. I've always wanted to see his cheating played out on screen.
