The loss of this gentle, charming, funny, wonderful man has left a hole in the world that can never be filled.

You are deeply missed, De, far more than you’ll ever know. I only wish I had gotten the chance to meet you.

But as long as Trek lives, so will you. You once told us, “Treat her like a lady, and she’ll always bring you home.” She brought you home, De, and now she carries your memories – a decade after you left us, I discovered Trek, Dr. McCoy, and your gentle spirit. I second every kind word on this board…and I add this.

In the TNG pilot, Kelley’s performance was the saving grace. His delivery of that final line made it an instant favorite, and to this day it is perhaps my favorite line in all of Star Trek: “You treat her like a lady, and she’ll always bring you home.”

I’d try to type more, but sad-and-happy tears seem to be blurring my vision…I mean, my allergies…yeah…that’s it….sniffle…

I never met De but wish I had. I’ve been wondering over the last month how he would have liked Karl Urban’s portrayal of McCoy. I also loved De in Gunfight at the OK Corral.

55 mntrekfan-i agree with you-that inside star trek album Roddenberry made back then was a wonderous magical thing-there was gentle humor, genes speculations on many aspects of trek, the interviews with shatner,de kelly and even Spocks father were all done with real wit and you can almost hear roddenberrys eyes sparkle as he delves deeper into the universe he created,sharing it all with the listeners including some excerpts from his speaking tours–great stuff and it was great that Paramount re-released that with the tmp soundtrack-anyone who has not heard that album you dont know what you are missing…

The host tour of TNG set was wonderful! I never saw that. I really miss what he brought to that character. after having watched that, I have a little more appreciation for him as an actor, and for what Urban did as well. I think Kelly would have love his performance. Honestly.
