As the number one movie in America, Star Trek seems to be working its way into all demographics. It showed up at the MTV Movie Awards, The Kids Choice Awards, and was nominated at the Teen Choice Awards. And last night Star Trek worked its way into the Country Music Television (CMT) Awards. The opening skit for the CMT Awards held last night in Nashville had country pop singer Taylor Swift telling host Bill Engvall about her dreams, including being in Star Trek.

In another CMT/Trek connection, Clifton Collins, Jr. (Star Trek’s Ayel) picked up an award for a music video he directed.

So it looks like the world of Country Music is ready to embrace Star Trek. Apparently they have put this last incident of Star Trek and Country behind them…

Something a lot of you might now know…Star Trek actually is kinda popular with some of the “country” crowd, even before this new movie.

I kind of like the idea of Country Music in space: the idea is not new. Anyone remember the movie ‘Apollo 13’, when they had Hank William’s “Honky-tonkin” playing during the inflight broadcast? Or what about ‘Space: Above and Beyond’ (which was absolutely great) there was an episode called “Never no more” featuring the song of the same name by Patsy Cline.
Taylor Swift as Christine Chapel! That’d be perfect! I really like her music. It’d be interesting to see her on the screen, too.
By the way, I wish I’d seen this. Bill Engvall has got to be one of my favorite entertainers, ever! I don’t know about seeing him in a Star Trek movie (where would they put him?), but I would love to see his next comedy video somehow focus on a Trek theme.
its great that Star Trek is finally being accepted by mainstream society, I don’t think I would ever think to see the day! In other news, ST09 is still playing in IMAX in Montreal! Saw it last night for the 5th time! Amazing in IMAX!

It’s really no wonder that trek is getting nominated for all these things… MTV and CMT (and Nickelodeon) are owned by Viacom.
I was wondering how long it would take before this clip got posted. I saw it two days ago and thought it was pretty good. I don’t follow Taylor Swift but she seems to be a nice girl and a great sense of humor.

someone above called this clip lame. Well, it’s not Shakespeare, but it was lightyears ahead of that god awful Andy Samberg parody done at the MTV Movie Awards.
Wow… Aside from the rap video bit, that’s eerily reminiscent of my dreams… including the hot blonde with pointy ears (or a ridged nose works too).
And yes, I am a Country Music fan (note that it’s not generally called “Country & Western” these days, just Country), a Tennessee Titans fan, and a lifelong Trekkie/Trekker.
Of course, I’m also already married, so I can’t head down to Nashville and try to woo Miss Swift.
