I’m a fan of Taylor Swift. I would love to see her in the next ST as a young Saavik, she would do just as awesome playing the half Vulcan/half Romulian Lieutenant as Kirstie Alley did, and Better than Robin Curtus. P.S. Taylor is the Only good Country singer in my Book, cause my family is not big on Country Music.

Yes, CMT was given HD source material from Paramount to make the composites. It’s fairly standard practice for all of the Viacom networks (MTV, Nickelodean, VH1, and a host of others) to work with Paramount in promoting their films. I myself have edited several Star Trek related pieces for segments in CMT shows or events. It’s actually kinda cool to get to advance frame by frame through some of the promotional footage they sent us (all in HD). I wish we had the whole film, but I guess I have to wait for the DVD like everybody else.

I’m sure they had permission. From what I understand, the company that owns CMT has ties to everybody else, anyway.

Okay, gotta admit, after seeing it on the CMT website, it was kind of cute. The Trek bit was a little over-the-top – how did they get the rights to use that clip, anyway? That’s pretty much destroying the “fair use” provisions of the Copyright Act.

But it was still kind of cute.
