Just an FYI to those who asked: Garrett is happily living in Vegas, pretty much retired from acting... and making nice bank from gambling (as I understand from a mutual friend). Looking forward to meeting up with him at DragonCon in September...

Here's a challenge JJ... re-invent the Gorn!

Make the Gorn the ferocious and fearsome alien it was supposed to be. Instead of the sorry, pathetic joke it has become.

You have to watch the video, because I thought after reading the article JJ said how do you fight evil wind, in a "we need a villian" tone. But after watching the video you can see not only is he open to ideas, but the how do you fight evil wind line was meant in a context of... sure, the unknown and nature can play the "villian" - but we have to find a way to make it work (like, for example., STIV?), because you cant just have the ship crusing along fighting evil wind and killing time. You need a conflict.

Kiefer Sutherland as commodore Decker, fighting Kirk and the Doomsday Machine, all the while the Klingons are trying to obtain the Doomsday Machine for their own purposes. See, you can have a disaster movie and action movie rolled into one!

An evil wind? Already done on film-the 2nd fantastic four movie turned a cosmic god like planet eating being into an evil wind--jj is right-it didnt work very well...whatever they do all your suggestions show a rich history of characters/situations to inspire and possibly use/change in interesting ways--the amusement park world episode was a good example of a wtf is going on type mystery that seemed to have a villain but didnt--stories like that let us learn more about the characters too-like finnigan etc--maybe combine that with a raisa type pleasure planet gone crazy-kirk could actually overdose on women-on the inside trek album shat was asked why kirk got a new woman each week and he said it was because he used up the old ones haha

#48... nice idea. not as Enterprise-centric as the producers and writers would like... but a cool novel idea for sure.

I still say... NO KHAN...

Garth of Izar would be cool.... a Federation Captain that loses his mind and becomes the villain in the third act... with Klingons included for good measure.
So Klingons are our primary villain (this also gets novice and cursory fans in the theatre) ... then we introduce another villain (Captain Garth) in the third act as the "actual" villain...for dramatic effect of course... and you can throw in any cameos you choose... I liked the Botany Bay ending you propose... or something similar to it that is a nod to TOS (no Khan for me thanks)... Harry Mudd and Cyrano Jones would be great additions for long time fans. Commander Decker can be introduced (we don't have to see him go crazy "Ahab" style and lose his mind too).

We do play in a separate history now...

So our new Enterprise crew could be present at the events that lead Garth of Izar to lose his sanity and try to wipe out the civilization on some world.

I just like the idea of making a Federation Captain the villain ... although its been done in the series... It hasn't been thrown on film.
