Karl is personally a nasty piece of work- does anyone realize that?! If you knew him you would not be in any sort of admiration about him. That's all I'm going to say.

Considering that Karl was part of the (in)famous LotR cast, I doubt fandom can do anything new to suprise him *g* Besides, there are pics of him half-stripping at a Xena(?) convention, really funny. Boys, you just wish you'd be half as cool and relaxed as he is :)

Thumbs up, Karl, and I hope you'll show up for a German con soon!

#70. LOL

Also, I was just looking at the Iron Man box office numbers. At day 53, despite being a higher initial grosser, Iron Man had approximately the same numbers and percentage fall-off every week as Trek.

Calculating a global take at 66% Domestic and 34% Foreign, Trek earned almost $10M last week to push them past $370M WW. However, if it continues to follow the same pattern as Iron Man, it will drop off by approximately 30% every successive week. This means, Trek should earn another $6.3M WW by Sunday, perhaps a little more given it's the 4th of July. But if the downward trend continues to match Iron Man, it won't cross $380M for another coupe of weeks.

Here's how it looks with a steady (conservative) 30% decline every week:

09) $6.3M
10) $4.4M
11) $3.0M
12) $2.1M
13) $1.5M
14) $1.0M
15) $0.7M
16) $0.4M
17) $0.3M
18) $0.2M
19) $0.1M

Iron Man closed after 22 weeks at the box office, so if Trek makes it that far it will close with approximately $21M and a total box office of around $392M. However, since Trek opened later in some major foreign markets, it may still earn a bit more overseas than Iron Man at this point to push ST09 over the $400M mark. Or Trek may buck the trends, especially if the Transformer fans are looking for something to wash the bad taste out of their mouths.

For a minute there, I really thought you were talking about the original crew. Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu, Welshie and Dr. M'Benga, perhaps traveling around the federation solving mysteries with a new character played by Andy Griffith. Sort of an intergalactic JAG for the nursing home set, where most of the original pre-baby boomer adult fans are.

How about we give the old Trek Crew their jobs back and have a TV Series based in the Star Trek "Prime" Timeline following the Adventures of the USS Titan and the aftermath of the Nero incident and the destruction of Romulus??

And just have this new Trek in the form of a movie Franchise???

Paramount could do some serious milking of the market there, and it would generate alot of interest:

Having the Prime Timeline continued would please fans who weren't that taken by the new film and crave the continuity of 40 years of previous Trek that now seems abit pointless... It would also possibly generate interest from new fans who loved the movie and started watching box-sets of old shows (I was in HMV the other day and a group of lads were crowded round the Star Trek section of the DVD boxsets area saying that they loved the movie and might get into the older series)

Continuing the New Time Line in the Movies would be the real cash-cow as Paramount would still be milking the success of the film and if written correctly and intelligently could lead to a long series of popular films.

Just an idea... but I honestly think this would be a good move for Paramount as it covers all its bases and would IMO generate the highest possible income. OK ENT was abit of a flop, but that was almost 5 years and I think that based on the HUGE popularity of the new movie, a TV show would generate alot of interest.

Just to point out aswell, that when I meant the old crew getting back together, I didnt mean Berman, I mean people like Ira Behr, Michael Westmore, David Livingstone, Herman Zimmerman etc...

Just an idea....

Regards

Agreed....I really enjoyed Virtuality and look forward to more of it. Lo and behold, staight man that I am, I was not struck dead by seeing a gay couple maturely portrayed on a Sci Fi show. Interesting show and I look forward to more with HAL....errrrr...Jean the computer :)

I think the money Trek is making would likely greenlight the sequel, story or not.
