BTW, I should say that I’m a big fan of the BBC America sci-fi shows (Dr.Who, Torchwood, etc). They really make the Sci-Fi (uh, SyFy) Channel shows pale by comparison.

Never was nuts about Torchwood but this is high caliber.

God forbid you ever get sued or have to sue somebody, but it is not something to be taken lightly especially when you are “the little guy”.

Companies like Disney have deep pockets and can quickly derail a person’s claim by exhausting their finances before they even get started. To pursue something like this, all of one’s ducks must be in a row – not something that can be casually pulled-together overnight. In particular, the “smoking-gun” evidence must be produced. To put it in perspective, how much stuff do you have from a dead-end job you briefly did 30 years ago?

In addition, if the series is not a success, why sue? You’ll spend a lot of money and energy and get nothing much in return, much less good-will from potential employers at studios.

FInally, I know someone who worked with him and says he’s an upstanding guy, so this could very well be a legitimate claim. It would not be the first time Hollywood tried to pull a fast one, or a claim like this was won by the writer. You’d be surprised as to how many meetings there are where producers and studio executives sit around and actually discuss how closely they can rip-off an existing idea without getting sued, or more importantly, losing a claim.

As for Titus Welliver’s character, it’s GOTTA be Esau. As in “Jacob and. . . ” The whole darn thing is so completely biblical, right down to Benjamin, son of Jacob. Twelve tribes of Israel & all that.

Actually yes! You accept that, in cartoons based on life action material, soundalikes are often used. I’ve spoken in favour of making a cartoon series based on the new version of Trek before, but don’t for one moment expect to get the voices of Pine, Quinto and Urban, any more than I expected Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson to voice The Real Ghost Busters or Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen to play their characters in The Clone Wars!

I have to admit, I prefer that voices are kept the same for animation-originated material and Futurama is one of those important shows.

Pretty much the entire Ghost in the Shell saga, in all its animated incarnations, has had the same Japanese voice cast. The US voice cast of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (two of of whom voiced the same characters in Oshii’s original film) also provided voices for the English-language dub of the unconnected Oshii movie Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

At this stage I don’t know whether they’ve been hired to revoice Oshii’s revamped version of his original film (called Ghost in the Shell 2.0 confusingly!) unfortunately.

And when the cutdown movie versions of the first two seasons of GitS:SAC were issued on DVD, the use of a different English voice cast caused outrage!

This is easily, hands down, the single stupidest thing I’ve read in the last decade.
