The New Jersey Nimoy Report:

Leonard posed for 400 photo ops, did his bit on stage, then signed autographs.

He was really plowing through the lines. He gave me a smile, a handshake and a shoulder squeeze after the photo (no, I didn’t grimace and pretend to fall unconscious) and that was it. No exchange of pleasantries at all, however brief. During the autograph session he didn’t even look up at who he was signing for. No, he didn’t personalize with people’s names either. I couldn’t help being a bit disappointed, as I had mentally imagined our meeting for ages.

By the way, I had him sign the cover insert for my Trek season 1 blu-ray. The signature looks good right on the white command insignia beneath the starburst.

Someone asked him about his song “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” and he actually sang a few verses. It was pretty funny.

He also told an amusing story about riding in a taxi with the guy who translates Trek novels into Japanese. The conversation fell flat after the guy told him Spock was much like a samurai warrior and therefore Nimoy was miscast. What could he say after that?

Although Creation bans videorecordings, I still kind of hope this shows up on YouTube. It was an enjoyable appearance.

keep your expectations low for this Vegas convention..especially since the Star Trek Experience is now closed…

the Grand-Slam convention (by the same Creation Entertainment) in Los Angeles a few months ago was a joke

I hope it will be nice..but I suspect just a few dealers…Creation auctioning off everything–incl the posters off the wall, etc….

I wish I could go to the convention this year! Expenses are too high in Hawaii this year…but I’ll definitely look forward to next year’s convention. Of course, this doesn’t mean I’ll give up the title of, “Star Trek’s #1 Fan.” ;)

Tip for Sunday: Registration starts at 9:30 am. The Nimoy photo ops are in the Johnes Room, in a side corridor across from the men’s room, at 12:10pm. Leonard;s onstage in the ballroom at 1:15 and his autograph session is at 2:40. They’re charging $70 for the photo ops and $65 for his autograph. You also have to bring something of your own for him to sign (unless the photo op 8×10s are ready in time). As far as cheap food, there’s a Wendy’s near the hotel on Route 10. The food in the hotel itself is pretty expensive.

Say Anyone going to the Creation Con in Vegas-When I was there in 2006 one of the dealers had CDS of every Soundtrack imaginable! I probably spent 130 bucks there. He gave me his card/website but I lost it. If you see that booth can you guys get the business name and web site if he has one and mailing address??

John, yup I am hoping this is the last year the vegas con will be at the hilton. Quite a few fans refuse to go this year….even when I visited for the last time 2 weeks before they closed last August I refused to stay at the Hilton or spend any money there except at The Experience of course….The rumors were that they were going to build a new theatre for Michael Jackson once his world tour was over….that was never confirmed by management but jackson did plan to live in Vegas and perform regularly once his tour was over….where that would be I have not heard, but years ago we did hear that the owner corporation of the Las Vegas Hilton(which is not owned by or related to the Hilton Hotels) put up 13 million to Michael Jackson to save and let him keep his Neverland Ranch. So who knows what the truth was. Now that he is gone, wonder whats gonna happen?
