Allyn - return that check instantly!! We'll have to recall all issues and put references to every video game in...! (We'd agreed the Return and the SNW stories up front!)

Seriously, you did a terrific job with possibly the nastiest commission I've given out in 3 years on the mag.

To # 40 Jim Nightshade,

The footage shot at the closing (sad, crying moment) of STTE last year is going to be the fall release of the DVD/BluRay TNG movies set. I saw it listed on this website a few weeks ago. Gerry & Francine confirmed it to me as they were interviewed by Paramount on that dreadful day in Sept 08.

As far they know, construction on the new STTE has not begun as they know of no permits being pulled. That does not mean it is dead in the water, just delayed or so is my hope.

More details may be forthcoming when I am at the Las Vegas ST CON this weekend.

#51 - rating wouldnt be a prob for a borg trek film as we saw in the pg13 FC

for better or worse PG13 is pretty much the norm for Sci Fi/action films these days

good for stuff like star trek and batman and bond which have that extra bit of hard core action...

bad for stuff like Terminator, Die Hard, AvP - which got downgraded in the violence/bad lang and suffered as a result (the days of big budget hard R rated SF films are a thing of the past at the moment)

Yah good points guys except the Borg have already been a pretty big budget item...Granted JJ could certainly make them even more epic/massive awesome like trek 09 was-I would also prefer the Borg to Khan as a storyline---hmmm with an alternate universe....why not have Locutus in it? Locutus VS Kirk....kinda a dark counterpoint to Generations....duel to the death instead of teaming up? haha...

Anyway out of many Trek storylines the Borg are one of the most epic massive awesome, scary exciting etc....The main thing is that the story would have to be killer great and different somehow....Certainly how the Enterprise crew would react and defeat the Borg would be very different from TNG thats for sure....you would want to go for scary and exciting but not too scary..alien I think would be carrying it too far..it couldnt be rated r for instance no kids/teens then....hmmm...

Yeh the Borg could be surprising and fanboys would love to see Kirk take em on and see how he defeats em....Good conjecturing guys! The more I think about it the better it sounds to me too....

I love JJ's work and the new movie, but he is a fool if he does not exploit the Borg theme in the fashion of big productions... That'll be just yummy...

To me the Borg are the most theatrical of any of the ST villians. With the budget this film is sure to have they could be truly imposing.

I wasn't thinking of Shatner's book when I suggested the idea, but it is a solid premise... Perhaps if the rumors of the film being told over two films is true we could be introduced to them in the first film (set up the mystery/menace) and then confront them on their home world. Kind of like the first two "Alien" films.

Who would not love to see Kirk square off against the Borg with a $150-$200 million dollar budget + big time director behind the project?

I think this scenario is a very distinct possibility for the next film.
