#27, Time Traveler’s wife will likely do better than Somewhere In Time. THe book is much better and despite the similarities to the ill fated NBC series, “Journey Man”, the previews I have seen are definitely aimed at family and romantics. But I doubt seriously it has the same potential of Avatar, Titanic, or even Star Trek. Somewhere in Time did not do that well at the box office either, nor did another fantastic romantic comedy Kate & Leopold. In the end, it will be perceived as much more of a chick-flick than anything else. Whereas Titanic I appreciated it for the drama, I am much more fascinated by the sfx, the sinking, the detail and the underwater footage (otherwise I could never watch it again). I mean there really is something for everyone in that movie and Avatar seems to be targeting a similar broad appeal, like Star Wars meets Titanic.

Good points RD and the same can be said for time travelers wife-downplaying the sci fi and promoting it as more of a love story-kinda like somewhere in time, was that the title, with chris reeve and jane seymour-he kinda just willed himself back in time–
Also anyone know if the cast is the same in dawn treader and if disney is involved like the 1st two? I thought the 2nd one wasnt very big at the box office-i am surprised to see its filming

#24 – perhaps because this movie will be nothing like those others. Perhaps because Terminator did poorly this Summer at the box office, and on TV. Perhaps because nobody remembers the Abyss, which did not do that well at the box office. And most importantly, Avatar is ultimately a love story in the vein of TItanic, which is fondly remembered worldwide not to mention the largest box office take in the last 25 years, and the 6th highest grossing domestic film of all time. And finally, I doubt Fox wants to position this film as a sci-fi movie any more than they wanted to market Titanic as a docu-drama. If successful Avatar will pull in people from all walks of life, just like Titanic.

$8-$9 is the standard where I live in the southwest. Matinees are usually $6. Even IMAX tops out a $10.75

I’d rather see Ridley Scott do an alternate sequel to Alien starting with Sigourney Weaver and the cat still in the escape pod. Say she was out there 300 years and it explains how she looks 30 years older in hibernation. Maybe the previous sequels were a dream!
