#52: The Borg Queen doesn’t violate canon (count the “n’s” for pete’s sake); she’s part of canon. However, it can definitely be argued that she violates some very fundamental concepts that had previously been etablished about the Borg. By giving the Borg a distinctive leader/speaker character with a distinct personality and individual will and motives, they tried to have their cake (having the Borg in a feature film) and eat it too (hedging their bets in the belief that the movie needed a specific “villain” people could trade banter with, argue against, etc). It’s inaccurate to say she violates canon (note the spelling?) since everything on screen IS canon, but I think it’s very fair to say that she violates what canon had established prior to her arrival.

Also you only saw the shuttles that were in visual range, several shuttles could have gone to warp at the point we look at the shuttles

Those ‘800 lives’ don’t all have to be on the shuttles. We heard the Kelvin communicating with a starbase which could have been nearby (plausible, considering it’s on the edge of the neutral zone) – the 800 lives could have included the people on the starbase.

Also why didnt the Narada have shields, yeah the borg didn’t, but seeing it was a mining vessel wouldn’t it require shields to protect it from solar radiation, and heat, and after borg mods…..weapons?

Chang is such a great, well thought-out villain because he quotes Shakespeare and acts nothing like a Klingon.

I see the pool has changed to state most people think Nero is one of the better villains.

I thought he was a pretty weak two dimensional villain on screen. The comic book tie ins are what give him more substance, but the development given to him in the comics could have been put in the film.

To me Eric Bana was great as Nero but he is not up with Khan, Chang, the Borg Queen etc.

Since the new movie is in a parallel timeline At least we can be more leniant with canon, its why I dont treat the movie as canon, I treat it as new canon. Spock and Nero are canon to me as they come from the prime universe. That is how I treat it as canon and therefoe in the prime universe we know Vulcan is still intact.
