I just attempted to watch trials and tribulations. I couldn't get past the first minute. I immediately switched to the dvd version. Its painfully obvious they didn't try to do ANYTHING at all to make it "HD". Upscaling the DVD on my own looks way better than this crap.

As for the rest of the set, so far its great. I don't know if its an update to powerDVD or different encoding, but i don't have any glitches associated with the seamless branching like i did with the first season. I'll have to pop that back in and see if some update fixed it.

Got my set yesterday!

Checked out the animated Tribble episode...definitely looked clearer than the copy on the full Animated set...but all of those imperfections are now way too clear! :)

The DS9 episode did look pretty ordinary...very soft focus and very weak on detail...a shame it was obviously just phoned in by the person(s) in charge of the transfer :( ...still, it's nice to have it included.

Watched "Amok Time" and of course it looked great! What a transfer as others of course have already said! Get your Blu-ray player now and buy these sets...you won't be disappointed! Plus the price...just $60 from Amazon with no shipping and no tax (for our government to squander away as they seem to be doing more and more of these days)...can't beat that!

Can't wait to watch 'em all!

Since I don't yet have my Blu-Ray player hooked up to the BD Live stuff yet, I used a DVD copying program called DVDFab to selectively burn the Red Shirt Diaries only from all 3 original TOS DVD sets to a single DVD.

It was very easy to do using this program...highly recommended if you want DVD copies of these Diaries (but of course be sure to own the sets first :) ).

59 - I waited out the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray format war so can't compare the quality between the two. My guess would be not too huge a difference between the formats visually. But if you plan on collecting Trek, or movies in general, in high-def, Blu-Ray's the only game in town at the moment. $60 bucks for the set, plus around $200 for a standalone player is a pretty good price break IMO. It's a beautiful set.

Frankly, I'd have paid $60 just for the Billy Blackburn stuff. Having those "home movies" has added immeasurably to the world of Trek fandom, so thank you, thank you, to him for bringing along that camera. How else would we ever see the "Vulcan Pec Dance" ?! Plus it's nice to hear someone credit Bill Shatner for making the set a fun, happy place to work, as opposed to painting him (rightly or wrongly) as a line-stealing jerk.

p.s. That image of the original version of the Constellation sailing into the maw of the planet killer is reversed left-for-right. It was the port warp nacelle on the repurposed AMT model that was heavily damaged, not the starboard one. :)

Congratulations Matt--I think you picked the worst-looking shots of the Enterprise from the second season remastered episodes to feature in your excellent review. The Enterprise looks particularly bad in that shot from "The Immunity Syndrome". What a shame.

I'm still picking this set up, though :)

Sooooooooooooo many questions! Ok. I bought TOS on standard dvd and love it...and the Red shirt Diaries nver ported over to the HD or BD titles.
I have the season 1 on HD, and 2,3 season on TOS-R.
Does anyone who owned the HD version feel the Bluray knocks that hidefinition out of the park beyond the HD format?
Lord knows I've bought TOS on vhs, 2 ep. dvd, season's dvd sets, HD, TOS-R.
But please kill me, I'm tempted by the BD, because of the BDLIVE and pic in a pic, only my HD season 1 had(or I do).
Is the BD season 1 the same 6 episodes the HD format had?
How many is in the seasons' 2,3 on BD have? I've held on to my standard dvd season sets, due to the fact the Red Shirt Diaries and photo galleries have NOT been ported over to the BD formatted releases.
I think the toggle option to switch back and forth from the old effects to the new FX would be neat. Now that BD has the Enterprise(formerly on the HD season 1)tour......cause if my HD player bites it, standard dvd player's won't play it and it would be forever unuseable and lost.
Plus the BD traycase design isn't cheap crap a nd a lame thin paper sleeve!

I have two copies of WNMHGB Unaired version which supposedly the only copy was donated to the Radio & Television Museum by Gene Roddenberry. It has a different beginning shot with over head view looking down on the decks/hallways/turbo lifts, and the show is divided into acts...like the old 70's shows. Different ending music score too, w/ abriviated credits.
