Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and everything. However imagine if you added some great images or video clips to give your posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this website could certainly be one of the most beneficial in its niche. Terrific blog!

#189.,

Indeed.

But the movie clearly establishes the the lifts below C-deck were not functional even after Spock's hours seem like days repairs. So, I'll stick with a definitely malfunctioning lift that no one considered usable and that it was a miracle The Miracleworker got it to go anywhere safely.

I'm not an expert on the movie E's decks but isn't Sick Bay below C-deck? Wouldn't that mean it was in the midst of the non-functioning lift system?

189: "perhaps he said ‘Bridge!’ instead of ‘Sick Bay!’"

With the Enterprise's antiquated Windows 9 speech recognition software and Scotty's accent, this is possible, but if that's what happened then we would've seen Scotty kicking the turbolift walls and cursing in Gaelic when the doors opened onto the bridge.

"Communications to Engineering were screwed"

You can call the bridge from lots of places throughout the ship, to report damages including sickbay or hallway intercoms.

Scotty ending up on the bridge . . . possibilities include:

He was in shock because the Enterprise, which was on a quiet training cruise that had briefly diverted to check on Regula 1, had suddenly been attacked out of the blue (Scotty wasn't party to the classified Genesis information). As he dragged his blood-soaked, horrifically-burned, mortally-wounded nephew to the turbolift amidst dying, blood-soaked, horrifically-burned, mortally-wounded cadets, perhaps he said 'Bridge!' instead of 'Sick Bay!' How often have any of us hit the wrong button on an elevator even when we're not in extreme circumstances?

The turbolift was damaged and went straight to the top floor. How often have you been in a crap lift that went to the wrong floor? I certainly have and the lift wasn't being torpedoed at the time!

Most likely (and the way I've always seen it): Communications to Engineering were screwed and reporting the extent of the damage had to take precedence over getting his nephew to sickbay. Simply putting Pete Preston in the turbolift, even without going directly to sickbay, probably put him ahead of any number of of other injured crewmen. The Enterprise was in a battle for its very survival and Scotty was too much of a professional not to report to his boss first.

I think the problem with this movie is - it's made for people who don't ask and just take the things how they are.
A good decission though, because you'll get aprox. 95% of todays audience.

"What did Nero do 25+ years?!" - "Never mind, look at this new special effect!"

If I don't want to think and just want to watch one trivial scifi-movie - star trek XI fit's perfectly...
Unfortunatly I'm usually wanted to be entertained AND challenged, what is why I'm cheerless about the new movie.

There are so many gaps in the plot, I can't count them and it is a hard task to respect that there are other's who love this film.
The biggest confession of failure is, that the whole story doesn't workes well, if you don't know something about the past (countdown-comic) and if you don't try to insert the deleted scenes and all those helpless explanation-attempts of Orci, Krutzman & Co. in your imagination while watching the movie.

There is just so much wasted potential and so many wrong decissions in order to serve a audience, which has no requirements anymore (watch e.g. Transformers and you know what I mean).

Therfore the movie is exactly that, what most of the people - unfortunatly - deserve.
