Playmates Toys Expanding Star Trek Line To Original Series + More Movie Toys For 2010 October 14, 2009

One of the great things about toys and collectibles is that they help make the wait between movies (and television shows…you listening CBS?) more tolerable. Playmates Toys, which returned to the franchise with Star Trek movie toys in April, and has a 2nd wave coming soon, has announced plans to expand their Trek offerings with new types of toys, and they are also adding Original Series figures as well. Ron Moore Decries Star Trek Technobabble

The Star Trek franchise, especially in the TNG era, is well known for its scientific and engineering dialiog, often referred to as ‘technobabble’. Recently when speaking at the New York Television Festival, veteran Star Trek writer/producer and Battlestar Galactica co-creator, Ron Moore spoke about how he became “frustrated” with this aspect of Trek. Chris Pine To Be Next Jack Ryan + Cho’s FlashForward Gets Full Season Order

Star Trek’s Captain Kirk Chris Pine is about to take over another famous movie character. Late last night it was confirmed that Pine has been picked for a different Paramount franchise, playing the Tom Clancy character Jack Ryan, the CIA analyst at the heart of four previous feature films. Also, in other Star Trek cast member news, John Cho’s FlashForward has been signed for a full season at ABC.

Last week Star Trek director JJ Abrams conducted a Q&A at a press event promoting the upcoming Star Trek DVD and Blu-ray releases. New Paramount Film Deals For JJ Abrams & Chris Pine – Is There Still Time For Star Trek Sequel in 2011? October 12, 2009

The two captain’s of this year’s Star Trek movie have been working even more deals at Paramount in recent days. The trades are reporting that Star Trek producer/director JJ Abrams has put yet another film into development, with a $2M script purchase. Plus, Chris Pine is now in talks to star in a new Paramount drama directed by DJ Carauso. Details below.
