Well the DVD is ready for the UK market and its getting good reviews in the papers, my play.com order is in place. I enjoyed the movie, saw it twice, thought all the characters were great. Glad to see a woc given the romance role, that is a real improvement from how they were portrayed 40 years ago, that would never have happened on American tv in the 60’s. In TOS Uhura role was groundbreaking but still racially limited that Ms Nichols wanted to leave – MLK persuaded here to stay. So I agree with the reveiwer, thru Uhura we see how Kirk grows by her changing attitude to him. Sure there are plots hole – (only 10,000 Vulcans left? What about the offworlders and Vulcan colonies, probably more likely a few million still around) but its a great action packed, scifi movie, number 2 on the best ST films.

I’ve seen wayyy too many people bash Zoe Saldana’s portrayal of Uhura, so your reference to her being the “soul” of the film made me shiny happy.

I love how now in 2009, that we’ve moved beyond the open racist practices of the 60’s (an environment, that Uhura’s character thrived in despite those open attitudes) that now people are bitching and complaining that she’s moved beyond “her place”.

#102-I respect that it means something to you in your own real life, however, it does NOT work as a theme song for Star Trek of any type, in my opinion. “The Inner Light” theme worked well for Picard and the situation he was in during that famous TNG episode, but it also would not work as a “theme song” for Star Trek, IMO.

Watched the Blu last night (on standard def TV at the moment…boo!) and it was great to see the film again. Still think the “inflatable hands” was a step too far with the humour though.

However the DVD menu and Vessel Simulator rocks…

and #7…I would venture to say that no, BluRay would not be a good bet for a 14 year old TV…no fret however, as most PCs and PC laptops have built-in BluRays in them…so just get a new computer to save money, but if you can afford it, the real way to watch the BluRay would be on a 45″-60″ wall-hanging Plasma TV with a Bose Surround System :)
